My sleep physician recommended Biotene to me a few years ago, to help me deal with moderate to severe dry mouth, due to use of a CPAP machine, as well as due to multiple other drying medications I take. I use the Biotene just before sleep, and pretty much every night when I wake up due to dry mouth. The product helps tremendously. I often use it once or twice during the day, but not always. GSK has replaced an excellent product, Biotene Moisturizing Oral Rinse - same formula as PBF, with this DRY MOUTH Oral Rinse. The old product was wonderful - full of good enzymes and very soothing to the mouth. Using it eliminated the plaque problem I had. I have Sjogren's Syndrome and very dry mouth. The new product gets rid of the good enzymes and burns my mouth - so it's less than useless. ...

I use the Biotene just before sleep, and pretty much every night when I wake up due to dry mouth. The product helps tremendously. I often use it once or twice during the day, but not always. I have swallowed Biotene a few times. At least twice I took in a small amount to see if it would help my GI problem. I had no adverse effect ever. Read More Read Less

For about a year, I’ve been using Biotene for chronic dry mouth due to certain medications. I use it mostly before bed and have had no ill effects. It usually lasts long enough for me to fall asleep. Sometimes I use it during the day, and, of course, I never swallow it, per label instructions. However, yesterday I was using it and accidentally swallowed while swishing. In a hurry, I guess. I had the worst reaction. I gagged but couldn’t throw it up. My throat tightened up. I couldn’t breathe. I thought I was going to die. I have never had an experience like this before. I have no idea what chemical or physical reaction caused this, but there’s nothing on the label that warns of this possibility. Eventually, I was able to breathe, but it was a couple of hours before I could stop coughing. I will be reporting this to my doctor and probably the FDA. I won’t be using this or any other dry mouth medication. I’ll find other means. Biotene doesn’t work that well anyway. BEWARE: Don’t swallow this stuff. It may not be safe for you. They had the best mouthwash on the market and they chose to replace it with something that I can only assume is less costly to produce. I can't imagine who would buy this.Read More Read Less
