I used Ortho Evra for years, had to switch because new insurance wouldn't cover it. Until the generic came out. then I switched back. I see bad reviews, but I don't have a bad review for this medication. It can take a body 3 months to adjust to birth control. Generic's inactive ingredients are slightly different than the brand, so that probably accounts for many people's bad side effects. My a...

I recently was prescribed this,I have found it fairly simple to use and very effective. There is some residue after I take off the patch but that's it. There was slight weight gain but it's barely noticeable and I don't worry because I was previously underweight and I'm now a more healthy weight. I haven't had bloating or any other problems. The first 3-5 days I experienced some nausea and headaches but the shortly subsided. I can say that it works well for me and I like it. I don't have problems with it falling off either. :)Read More Read Less

I like this birth control better than any other I've been on. Which are depo, pills, and nexplanon. I haven't gained any weight. I did have nausea in the first few weeks on it but that subsided. The only really bad side effect is horribly painful periods. I never had cramps or anything before on my period. It takes everything out of me for about 5 days I'm horribly exhausted and in pain it sucks :(

I have been taking the patch for 3 months now. The side effects I had was A LOT OF BLOATING, moods changing, gaining weight, nausea and I have a mild pain in my back. After the third month, I realized that I had BV (Bacterial Vaginosis) which causes itching/burning sensation and a foul odor small with a yellow discharge. The reason for that infection is because of the high levels of estrogen in my body while using the patch. I stopped using the patch and took antibiotics for a week and now, I have a yeast infection. Overall, my cramps pains and period flow were good, but I don't want to have another infection. I won't recommend this patch to anyone.Read More Read Less

I have been taking this for about 3wks... I just took it off and I don't plan on putting it back on! I have been extremely tired, waking up late everyday, going to bed early, and have had no energy to excersise as I normally do. Normally I excersise 7 days a week, in the past three weeks, I've only had energy to 3 of those days. I've been moody and agitated, with a short fuse. My breast are very tender n huge. I've had horrible migraines daily!! I don't like who I've become. I do not recommend this bc.Read More Read Less

The Xulane patch works very well for me. It's very effective in preventing pregnancy and is extremely easy to use. There may be some dirt around the patch by the time you take it off and for me, it does cause bloating and a little bit of weight gain. I think that those are not terrible side effects for birth control. I would recommend the Xulane for anybody contemplating using birth control.

I've been using Xulane for a long time. It has made my periods horribly painful. And now (I don't know if it's from Xulane" but I've been ecsperencing random but extremely painful stab feeling in my ovaries randomly. But so much I had to go to the hospital. It always changes sides. If anyone is having this problem please tell me because doctors don't know what it is. No one does. Anyway. When I first started it , I felt like I had an upset stomach but the kind you get when you haven't had food for awhile so I had to eat a lot. Them after 3 weeks or so maybe a little more. I was never hungry. Idk. I would rather have the brand name one because this one is just seems to have problems. Periods are excruciating. Weird hungry issues them never hungry. I've been on the Xulane patch for about 2 months now and so far it's done it's job. I've previously tried the pill and the depo-shot (which made me quite hostile) and both didn't work out for me. I can't use an IUD b/c I have a bicornuate uterus- The only negatives about the patch that I'm experiencing are EXTREME BLOATING and the fact that my patch seems to slip and slide when I shower then I have to wait a bit after I get out of the shower for the patch to adhere itself back onto my skin? If that makes sense.. Read More Read Less

When ortho evra switched to xulane, I was skeptical because I tend to lean more to name brand things being better and birth control is not something I want to make me any less protected. My worries were put to rest, I've found that both medicines are the same. I have no new side effects or anything. The only thing that bothers me about this method is the 'dirt' that gets around the patch throughout the week, but my boyfriend doesn't mind it. It's easy to hide, short term, and pretty effective. I've been using for a year and a half now and I'm not looking to change a thing. Read More Read Less

I've been using Xulane for 4 months now. My only side effects have been some mood swings (but I am a moody person to begin with :)), irritation on the skin around the patch, and my periods have become shorter but a heavier flow. It has worked great for me so far; I have had sex multiple times without condoms, and I am not pregnant. The patch hasn't fallen off, and I take showers every other day. The only annoying thing is that my skin can sometimes feel itchy when I'm wearing the patch. Other than that, I think it's great!Read More Read Less

I was on this medication for 4 months after I was switched (without being consulted) at the pharmacy after it was available. I wasn't complaining at first. It was free (thanks Obamacare), but soon after I started taking it, I started to have pain. After numerous labs, x-rays, and other exams; I was diagnosed with RT Ovary Thrombosis. I was told to immediately stop the BC Patch and to start taking a blood thinner and have been on one ever since. 1.5 years counting....Now I am pregnant and have to take injections. Thanks!!!!!!Read More Read Less

I am in my third month of taking this patch. The first two months were miserable. Constant on and off nausea, never feeling full, bloating, you name it I felt it. This third month has been much better. I have had minimal sticking issues. The edge has stuck to my clothing, but has never fully came off. It has stayed on in shower and the few times I have been in the pool. So far it has been effective and easy to use. If these change I will let you know.

I was on Ortho for a year and LOVED it. but i had to switch to this one because of insurance, it works just fine as long as you dont shower or go swimming or get wet in any way. this does not stick like it says it should and its driving me crazy. how is it going to work if it wont stay on?? im thinking about switching to something else so i can shower without being worried about my BC.

I HAVE BEEN ON XULANE APROX. FOR A YEAR AND I HAVE GAINED 15 POUNDS. I'M STARVING ALL THE TIME LIKE I WAS PREGNANT BUT I'M NOT... MY PERIODS ARE FINE VERY REGULAR. I AM SWELLING ALL THE TIME MOSTLY ON MY LEGS AND FOOT. I GET LEGS AND ARMS NUMBNESS VERY OFTEN. I AM SERIOUSLY THINKING ON TAKING A BREAK FROM ANY BIRTH CONTROL JUST TO SEE IF THE SWELLING AND WEIGHT GAIN ENDS.

I used to be on ortho-evra...LOVED IT! I hate, and I mean hate that my insurance company/doctor had to switch me to xulane. I have gained 20 lbs from use over 1 years time. I feel bloated all the time, moody, I want to eat all the time, my periods/cramping hurts more now. I never have gained so much weight on a form of birthcontrol..and YES I KNOW it is the bc causing this. I eat good and exercise reguarally and this has never changed in my life. XULANE is the devil patch..going off of it at my next OBGYN appointment.Read More Read Less

It's effective as birth control...so far at least. It has fallen off after just 2 days before, it folds often...I don't trust it and always use a back up method now. I now have acne up my spine, across my shoulders, all over my chest and on my STOMACH. I get headaches a lot and am gaining weight. I HATE it but Ortho Evra costs $115 a month. If you can afford it, don't switch. It's horrible.

After looking up the reviews on this website I has TERRIFIED to try the 'generic brand' patch for birth control. My body is hyper sensitive to any kind of change and after using Ortho evra for over 10 years I wasn't looking forward to any new changes with my body. However, I had no choice but to try it because my pharmacy no longer offered me Ortho evra. After using Xulane the past 3 months, I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. I did not break out, which I'm very prone to doing. I still got a little bit of cramping but I did with Ortho evra as well. The only thing different that is notable is the mood change. But nothing severe or uncontrollable. No weight gain and no changes is sex drive. I'm 33. Read More Read Less

I haven't had any weight gain, minor moodiness and it's been super easy to use. I did break out really badly my first month but got a prescription cream that has helped that. Otherwise the only negative thing is my sex drive is minimal.

I am 36 and have been on Xulane now for about 12 months. Although the convenience is great, I have had more side effects on Xulane than OrhoEvra. I have my period and two weeks later I spot another week. This month it's like uncontrolled peeing. I'm so undecided of what to try now for birth control but need something reliable.
