I used Ortho Evra for years, had to switch because new insurance wouldn't cover it. Until the generic came out. then I switched back. I see bad reviews, but I don't have a bad review for this medication. It can take a body 3 months to adjust to birth control. Generic's inactive ingredients are slightly different than the brand, so that probably accounts for many people's bad side effects. My a...

Like others, Xulane showed up unexpectedly at my front door when my mail order came in one month instead of Ortho Evra. For the first month it appeared to be a decent patch. The second month went okay as well it seemed. Side note: the Xulane patch does not re-stick at all once it peels off even just the tiniest bit. Ortho Evra does stick back on. When I put on my first patch for the start of the t...

I was an Ortho Evra user for 6 years before it was discontinued by Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Unfortunately, I was not warmed and was transitioned over by the pharmacy. I absolutely loved Ortho Evra. I had little to no period, glowing skin, weight loss and so many positive effects. I figured since the generic (Xulane) is similar in composition, there should be no problem. Well, my period comes two days late now and is painful. I also get random sharp stomach pains throughout the month. The patch barely stays on. Whether I take a shower or bath, it falls off. I have to wash the area around the patch carefully. I have had 2 patches fall off that I could not stick back on in one month. Replacing the patches costs over $125! I already know that I cannot go swimming anymore now that I am on Xulane. This makes me so sad because the patch was the only birth control that really worked for me. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE bring Ortho Evra back!!!Read More Read Less

Ladies, I haven't been on OE for over five years but decided to start back because it regulated my cycles perfectly! Xulane is new to me and now that it is my week off and my period has shown, I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT!!my period is so heavy that I'm soaking through pads and tampons! I never have heavy periods. And the cramps. They make me feel as if I'm going to faint. It took forever for the period to come on after I took it off(I know the hormones have to get low enough) but I'm on my next box and the period is still on because it came late. Never had this problem with Ortho Evra! I take thyroid medicine as well so I can't confirm where my nausea and decrease in energy has come from but from the looks of the other reviews, this patch is the blame. I am so over this patch but I am afraid to snatch it off out of the fear that this heavy period will stick around!Read More Read Less

This patch does not stay on in water. It falls off in the shower or bath or swimming. Causes hormonal issues and yeast infections if it falls off and you need to put a new one on. I only use it for hormonal imbalance. I cannot take the pill as the pill makes me nausea longer than a month. I have been on Ortho Evra for 10 or more years, and never had a problem. I miss the brand!!!!!!

Just started on the Xulane patch after being on Ortho Evra for over 8 years. I hate the new Xulane patch!! I put the first one on Sunday...it washed off in the shower on Tuesday. I put a new patch on after that and that patch washed off in the shower on Thursday. I want Ortho Evra back! I wish they had not discontinued it. Xulane is NOT the answer.

I loathe this new patch. The side effects are more trouble than they are worth. Ortho Evra was a GREAT patch for me. I did not suffer from any side effects, it made my periodsq more managable, and it adhered better. I am only on my second week of this new patch but I am scared to see what my next cycle will look like from some of the reviews, my breasts are so tender I feel like they are going to explode, and the bleeding that it causes makes me uncomfortable to be sexually active which defeats the whole purpose of needing birth control. I know that some birth controls take time for the body to adjust to but the reason I hate this patch is because they went from something that worked (that took my body no time to adjust to) to this new patch that is just not doing it for me. I want OE back! I am going to look for another method of birth control!Read More Read Less

Well, I hope to God is really is effective. I didn't get pregnant and am counting on that. I like that the patch is a bit smaller; hated that I bled ALL month for the first month, despite the fact that it's identical ingredients? I also had problems with the patch not adhering, and have an appointment to maybe change to the ring or the pill. I loved Ortho Evra and am disappointed it is no more.

My advice: give it time. The generic is smaller, and that's nice. Harder to see. No skin issues, no hair issues, no period issues, and no weight issues here. I have had little trouble except z bit of a headache for a few days that passed, some light bloating that passed. You do have to hold this patch down a bit longer to get it to stick as well as the original. I recommend using your shoulder or outer arm. I have had no trouble getting it to stay stuck. Apply after a bath, and dry well. So there aren't oils on your skin. Stick with it and give it a chance. And if you are thinking of trying it, don't let a few bad reviews sway you from it. Everyone's body works differently, and it might work as well for you as it has for me! You seldom see good reviews because people don't think to praise as much as they do to complain! :)Read More Read Less

I was on the brand name for 15 years and never had one single problem. Then every drug store in the area switched to the Xulane which is the generic for the Ortho Evra. Now, aside from the fact that the patch doesn't stick, my skin is a mess, my blood pressure is a mess, my periods are ALL over the place and my weight is out of control. I had my dr write me a mew script for the ortho evra DAW so that I can go back on the original patch, and apparently, the manufacturer has stopped making it and it is on back order with every pharmacy I've called!! What is going on? The generic is terrible and it does't appear to be positively effective!Read More Read Less

I've been on Ortho Evra since they came on the market and I was super happy with it. I had to use this new one for the past 2 months and I gained over 10 lb because of it. If anything I eat less, excersize more and I'm very unhappy with this new patch.

Love this patch! Was very scared to try it after I heard ortho evra was discontinued (I had been on it for 5+ years). First day/week was a bit tough. I had a small amount of bloating Day 1, went away overnight. Had some migraines for the first week on and off - nothing some advil or Excedrin Migraine couldn't help with. After that it's been all perfect! I have lost weight on this (no pudge like w/Ortho Evra), no shortness of breath, no depressed feelings, my alcohol tolerance came back! I loved OE, but had no sex drive, and was gloomy a lot, and was also always tired. Nothing with these! I'm fun again! I continue to place this on bikini line under my underwear). Works great, especially having something tight pressing against it! Day 1-2 I have noticed you have to be careful, but the stickiness gets better once mixed with your natural skin oils! By the end of the week is it heavily stuck on with no issues! Does not stick to my underwear, nor has it given me skin irritation of any kind! Just finished my first period on this, and was EXTREMELY light and non-painful! Lasted 4 days, and really made the cramp pain go down! I'm sold! Ladies you HAVE TO give it 1-3 months. Let me tell you, when I was having side effects the first week I was so close to getting off of it. SO GLAD I didn't! This was the best choice, just needed some time for my body to adjust!! AND HUGE PLUS - SMALLER PATCH!!!! It's not as noticeable!Read More Read Less

It's easy to use, that's the only positive! Went on OrthoEvra for(very) severe menstrual cramps - it worked great! Since Ortho was pulled from the market I was switched to Xulane - I have cramps again and breakthrough bleeding (luck me, 2 periods/month), overall feeling sick/nauseous! Not sure of my next option as birth control pills made me sick (nausea/vomiting) and gave me sever headaches. :(

I feel bloated and nauseous after using Xulane. I am having to use this because my pharmacy has not been able to restock Ortho Evra. This medication is TERRIBLE. Have been on Ortho Evra for 10 years with no issues. I really hope they have not discontinued Ortho Evra. It's worth the extra cost!

Xulane caused me to be in excruciating pain that I could hardly function at work. The clots that left my body during this pain were so huge. Thanks to Xulane I am now seeing my period twice in one month. THIS is why I never wanted to use it in the first place. The reviews I read were exactly what I experienced. I ripped it off after the two days. Finally I was able to get Ortho Evra after calling about 5 different pharmacies. Why are insurance companies forcing people to use this generic patch!? FYI...I have been on Ortho Evra for 10 plus years.Read More Read Less

Worse patch I've ever been on.!!!! I have nasty headaches don't go way for about a day!! And off course with it nauseas also... I've gained about 10lbs .. & I'm emotional most of the time . Ortho evra pAtch didn't cause this that made me think it was because of the birth control.. I switch because my insurance covered XULANE but no longer covered (ortho evra).. I thnk I'm going to be switch from this patch soon!!!

Was on Ortho Evera for about four years before my insurance made me switch. Immediately noticed a negotiable difference! Felt sick, tired, and pale for months. I never gained weight on Ortho, but can't seem to shake the weight from Xulane. I'm a healthy, active person, so this is horrible. Recently, I went on antibiotics and, come my period week, have been soaking through pads and am very anemic. Never once had this problem with antibiotics and Ortho. Really unhappy!! Going to switch to Nuva Ring; this has been horrible for me.Read More Read Less
