I've decided to write a review since there are a lot of neg ones. I'll be honest, when I first took this I didn't have the most pleasant experience and reading some reviews freaked me out. Here's my history -- I was diagnosed with yeast infection last year by my obgyn of which she prescribed a one day oral medicine. It took a few days for it to work, but I don't recall having any side effect...

I wish I had read the comments before purchasing this. What started out as a slight itch turned into a monster after using this product. I used this at about 10pm right before I went to bed. By a little after 12am I woke up to a whitish discharge so a pad is a must but that wasn't all. I was Itching and burning so bad I almost cried. I went to the bathroom and rinse off with water several times an...

This drug is terrible and should be taken off the market. I have had yeast infections in the past, and taken the Monistat 3 and 7 day with no issues. I took Monistat 1 at the first sign of a YI, and it has made things 100 times worse. In addition to the itching, burning and swelling that other reviews have described, I also now have a rash all over my inner thighs that is continuing to spread. After 3 days with no improvement, I went to the doctor and was prescribed a steroid cream and diflucan. Apparently, the OB/GYNs at this practice see adverse reactions like this to Monistat frequently. They recommend only using the generic version, since Monistat apparently includes an additional enzyme that many people react badly to. This has been three days of agony.Read More Read Less

I wish I had read the reviews Prior to purchasing the drug!!!! OMG it was the worst burning experience I've ever had in my life it was easy to use but maybe 20 minutes after I applied the burning and itching became a hundred times worse it hurted so bad I couldn't keep still in bed I ran to the bathroom and applied a cold wet rag it made it feel better..... I then attempted to go to bed. Again worst feeling ever as time went on the feeling went away if this ever happens again I plan on getting the 3 step.Read More Read Less

Like many other people here, this medication made everything so much worse for me. The itching from the yeast infection is annoying, and I relieved it with some diluted vinegar, but thought that might not be enough. I had a couple yeast infections before this, mostly back when I was a teenager. A couple of days ago I noticed the symptoms, first the itching and then the tell-tale "cottage cheesy" discharge. The diluted vinegar made everything feel so much better, but it's not very convenient, especially since you should do it 2-3 times a day. So, I got this quick 1 day treatment. That was such a bad idea. A couple hours after inserting it, my vulva started itching again, which I just figured was the YI symptoms. A few minutes later my vagina (inside) started burning really bad. I have a high pain tolerance, and this was bad. After several minutes of this intense burning I had to do something, so I washed everything out with vinegar again. Almost instantly when I got all of the medication out, the burning subsided. It doesn't even itch anymore. I definitely advise anyone who uses this and experiences the burning to get the medicine out of your vagina. You will probably feel better once it is out.Read More Read Less

This medication, like others like it (miconazole, ticonazole, butoconazole, etc.) can, and likely will cause some pretty nasty external burning when you use it. Why shouldn't it? Peroxide burns when you put it on a cut, right? I just grit my teeth and bear it, because if you use it before bed, it goes away before you wake up. Better than a yeast infection any day. Before a week's time, I'm good as new. I get these infections less than twice per year.

I still, after 4 years now, have had to do IVIG infusions from this Monistat 1! I have been thru hell! I believe it go into my blood stream and when it does look out. Please do not use! I am beggin you!

I bought this product on a whim because my YI was getting so bad that I couldn't stand the itching and pain anymore. So I went to Dominicks and picked up Monistat 1. When I came home I started reading reviews on here and was terrified about the pain people were having. After 5 minutes of debating if I wanted to do it, I finally went ahead and did it. I inserted the ovule, which did cause some discomfort since my vagina opening was so swollen, and applied some of the creme to the itchy parts and immediately went to bed. I didn't wake up at all. There was NO PAIN whatsoever. And I think I feel a lot better. My labia and clit are still swollen and a bit sore but I'll use the itchy creme for that. Overall I am really pleased with this product. I had some itching and burning with a cottage cheese like discharge and new I had a yeast infection. I ran to rite aid and grabbed the monistat 1 and used it before bed. about 2 hours after inserting the ovule I had the most intense pain and itching....felt like someone shoved hot coals in my vagina. The next morning my vagina and vulva were so swollen I could barely walk or close my legs. It even hurt sitting. It has been about 24 hours since I used it. With the help of Advil the pain and itching are subsiding....although I am still swollen. I will NEVER use the one day againRead More Read Less

I don't get YI often and this is the first time I chose an OTC medicine. I don't consider myself to be a sensitive person so when I read the reviews I thought id be fine. I was wrong. I'm not one to B**** and moan about stuff but this medication(Monistat 1 day/night combo) SUCKS(at least for me)! I followed the instructions to the T and about 30minutes later I started to feel a gradual itching sensation. It was so uncomfortable that I found it impossible to even attempt to go to sleep. It got so bad I was squeezing my legs so tight just to get that 5 seconds of relief. For those people who think "we" (the people who the medication has failed) NO, I'm not being DRAMATIC. Just because it worked for you doesn't mean everyone else is exaggerating. Anyway after dealing with this issue for about 2 hours I couldn't take it anymore and right then and, there I remembered the most IMPORTANT thing just at that very moment. When I bought Monistat 1, I also purchased a box of douches. I couldn't have ran to the bathroom any faster. I douched every bit of that cream out and although there was still a little bit of itchiness it was so minute that I fell asleep as soon as my head hit my pillow. IN the morning I was totally fine. Maybe I wasted $17 by flushing it out before it can take affect but I'd do that any day especially if there was an itch you cannot scratch. Screw that nothing is worth feeling that way over. ***MY PIECE OF ADVICE TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NOT TRIED MONISTAT IS BUY A BOX OF DOUCHES. YOU CAN NEVER GO WRONG WITH BUYING A $3 BOX OF INSURANCE. TRUST ME IF YOU'RE LIKE ME IT'LL BE THE BEST DECISION YOU COULD'VE POSSIBLY HAVE DONE WALKING INTO THAT STORE.*** Read More Read Less

Not sure what all the fuss is about. I got a yeast infection which I self diagnosed just because I go to school out of state from my home doctor and the health center on campus is pretty worthless. So I looked up my symptoms and was pretty confident in my self-diagnosis. I went to the drug store and bought monistat 1 and used it before bed. I followed the instructions. I was terrified that I would wake up with the burning and pain that all the online reviews said but I slept through the night and woke to no pain at all. Upon standing up and walking throughout the day there was a little spillage, but nothing significant. My itching was gone and by the need of the day my symptoms were pretty much gone. Overall I recommend this. It was easy and effective. Read More Read Less

I took monistat 1 for the first time. I did not read any reviews about it previously. When i told my boyfriend he was scolding me...saying he read all this stuff about it..burning etc. But I did not experience any discomfort really. So like I've read on some reviews...it just doesn't work the same for everyone.

I think a lot of these reviews are dramatic. I have used this product 4 times already over a period of time & never did I feel an intense burn or itch. Maybe because I take it before bed but even if I did they give you a cream to apply to aid the itching/burn. Lately I have been taking the product more than I would like to but I think I'm doing something wrong. I like for these infections to be gone quickly & this product actually does get the job done. When I wake up I notice the oder gone & no mis-colored discharge. Thanks to these reviews however I know to wear a pantyliner after using this product bc the cream from the ovule will leak out leaving a white mess :P. Other than that all us ladies react differently; for those ladies this product didn't burn it worked pretty effectively. Read More Read Less

Last night thinking I might have a yeast infection I went to Walgreens. After spending several minutes looking I decided to buy MONISTAT 1. BIG MISTAKE! HUGE MISTAKE!!!! I came home inserted the ovule then got on the computer and started researching Monistat just to see if I had made the right choice. OMG, there was review after review on hundreds of web sites about the negative side effects. I was skeptic and thought it can't be that bad so I left the ovule in and went to bed. About 2 hours later I woke up with the worst burning in my huha that I have ever had in my life!!! I tried to sleep with my legs open and washed with cold water. Being an idiot I went work and suffered a few hours before calling MONISTAT. They acted like this was normal and no big deal and told me to use cold packs and it might go away in a few days! WTF, my huha is going to be burning like it had been saturated in battery acid and cayenne pepper for 3 days!!!! ARE THEY CRAZY? I ended up having to go to the Dr. they had to give me a steroid shot. I will warn every female I come in contact with DO NOT USE MONISTAT1 and please warn all the females you know. I'm really worried about the long term side effects. I totally agree with the 1000's of other women who have had the same experience, this stuff should be pulled from the shelves and ban! Don't trust any positive review of MONISTAT1. Really, you have NO idea until you experience the pain. Read More Read Less

I came to WedMD to find out any reviews about the Monistat 1 treatment. I started not to take it after reading some of the reviews. But my symptoms won out over my fears. I bought it this past Thursday and applied it that night. At first there was initial discomfort but it didn't burn as women on here stated. For me it felt like a tingling like a minty feeling. After a couple of hours it stopped and so did my symptoms. I am still using the vulvar cream, which doe initially have the same reaction at first. But at least I know it's working, it seems as if my yeast infection has cleared up. I would definitely use this product again:))Read More Read Less

I started with a bacterial infection used an over the counter medication and that caused me to get a mild yeast infection..I got MONISTAT 1 and inserted it..decided to look up reviews and saw the frightening negative comments..I decided to finger out some of the MONISTAT 1 (not alot) after 2 hours I started to feel slight burning and itching..after i woke up it was hone and treated..people need to realize that it's the drug working 3x more than the 3day or 7day bc it is a 1day..the dose is much higher..do it going to irritate you alittle but it's doing it's job..I do think MONISTAT 1 should haveore of a warning for women who don't know what to expect && what more of what to expect..I can understand why some people panic..Read More Read Less

Personally, I didn't have the terrible pain and burning that everyone is talking about. After reading these reviews I was terrified and it took me a good while with the medication in my hand before I could convince myself to insert it. Maybe it's different for everyone but I did not have any pain what so ever. It was of course itchy, but only an annoying itch. I would suggest using the cream for the outside of the vagina to help with the itchiness because I think that's what might have helped me. So don't be afraid ladies! It might not be that bad for you. I decided to try monistat after repeated use of fluconazole to treat my months long yeast infection. I was immediately scared after reading reviews but soon found that after a slight "burning" sensation, that hurt no more than my actual yeast infection and lasted a few hours,I felt normal again within 10 hours. Excellent product!

This was my first yeast infection and I began itching and burning for 2 days straight without treating it. I began to put vagisil on it but it would only temporarily ease the itchiness. I then bought the monistat1 and used it before bed LIKE THE INSTRUCTIONS TELL YOU TO! It stung for about 30 minutes and then there was a cooling sensation and before I knew it I had fallen asleep. When I woke up their was white stuff all in my panties and thats when I knew it was working. I then wiped it off and applied the cream they give you and I was good to go. Within 20 hours after taking it, it felt like it was gone and I no longer was in pain. Most of these reviews are from women who took the pill during the day or before work...thats a big NO NO!! Read the instructions and it clearly says apply BEFORE YOU GO TO BED. If there were any pain I sure didnt feel it because I was sleep. If you just have to take it during the day then I suggest monistat3 or 7. Read More Read Less
