I have never been on any birth control other than using condoms and decided to get an iud, Skyla more towards ladies who haven't had a child. Did lots of research and it is a shame that you only find negative and scary stories online bc no one will take the time to write a good review. I am a woman who does not ever see side effects from any medication, everything always works as it states on ...

I went in to get skyla inserted today. Most painful experience EVER! It was like really bad cramps x1000. After inserting my doctor said I should be fine after 5 minutes. I wasn't. I was in so much pain I was shaking uncontrollably and almost fainted. The nurses said my body just "rejected" it. Needless to say my doctor had to remove it. Worst experience with birth control ever.

Skyla insertion was hell. Prior to, took 800mg ibuprofen as recommended. They first measured my cervix, which is a quick but sharp pain. During placement (quick <5min), I thought I was going to vomit, pass out, and keel over from the pain (during

I had Skyla placed on 04/27/16. Since then I have been to the ER once, and the OBGYN once. I have had two days in which I had no bleeding or weird discharge. Obviously, I took advantage of those two days and during intercourse my boyfriends penis had bright red scratches. It was also very uncomfortable for me. I have a horrible pain tolerance so placement made me pass out- however I was also holding my breath. My OBGYN must not have reviewed my chart thoroughly because I have been prone to cysts since 2012. Since placement I've had two hemorrhagic cysts appear. Bleeding sucks obvi- no one likes it. However, prior to have the IUD being placed I had not had a period since January. I've increased my exercise and changed my eating habits and yet I'm still increasingly gaining weight. Like most women, I struggle with appearance. So this is probably the worst part for me. I'm gonna wait the 6 months to see if the bleeding regulates, or if it continues. At this point, I am far from impressed with Skyla. Read More Read Less

Don't let these reviews scare you! I had my skyla inserted two days ago and I've still yet to have bad cramps or spotting. As for the insertion it's more so uncomfortable than actual pain. It feels like you have to poop and a bad cramp all in one but it goes away in under a minute. I understand that the experience is different for everyone but these reviews are geared more towards people who had a bad one. I would highly highly recommend getting the skyla!

I had the Skyla put in on 3-16-16. During insertion I experienced the worst cramping I've ever felt & I got hot sweats & almost passed out. I felt miserable cramps for the next few days & bad bloating. The first 2 months my periods lasted 8 days & were very heavy. Since I got it almost 3 months ago I have gained 15 pounds while still using my same workout & eating plan. Also my boyfriend tells me during sex he can feel the wires poking him and it kind of hurts. Not only that I have felt slightly bloated since the placement of Skyla. I thought I would just wait till the 6 month marker but I this point I am sick of feeling this way & gaining weight. I am having it removed tomorrow & going back to pills which I've been on for the past 3 years.Read More Read Less

PLEASE don't let the reviews online scare you! I went into my appointment to get my skyla absolutely terrified. The nurse taking my blood pressure took it twice before the procedure and my blood pressure was through the roof from being so nervous. I contemplated canceling my appointment all day. The day before my appointment I took two 200mg ibuprofens 3 times throughout the day. My appointment was the next day at 4pm so I took another two 200mg ibuprofens when I woke up and then I took 4, 200mg ibuprofens at 3:30pm. These were recommendations given to me by my doctor. It's also important to note that I was on my period which apparently makes it less painful because your cervix is dilated. The whole procedure probably took about 5 minutes and like many others have said it's mostly just uncomfortable. I am a 20 year old female, had never had children or even a pap smear and so having someone work in that area was a completely new feeling for me. It was slightly uncomfortable and the worst part was probably when she measured my uterus (which felt like a tiny pinch). Then it was in! I cramped slightly when it was put in but nothing too bad. I continued to have some slight cramping the hour after it was put in and then honesty have barely had any cramping since then. It's only night one so I can't speak to it's effectiveness, but the insertion really was a piece of cake. I understand everyone is different but I believe if you load up on ibuprofen, get it inserted while you are on your period, and remain calm your experience will be much easier than you think. Really, don't let the online reviews scare you. Read More Read Less

On Skyla I experienced severe mood changes- crippling anxiety and depression. Previous to Skyla I'd never had any problems with anxiety or depression, and was back to my normal happy, anxiety-free self about 2 days after having Skyla removed. Skyla is definitely NOT right for everybody.

So basically my iud became misplaced in my uterus. How? I have no idea. My next appointment is next week and we are removing hopefully without surgery. If i end up having to get surgery then there is a possibility i will be unable to have children afterwards and i'm only 18 year old. Before it became misplaced in my body, I still hated due to the fact that my cramps during my period lasted about 2-3 weeks and were so unbearable that i would fall to the groud sometimes. Maybe it's just me, but i havent had a single good experience with this thing.Read More Read Less

I had Skyla put in because Paraguard was giving me horrible cramps for the week before, during, and after my period. It barely hurt to have Skyla installed and I had no cramps afterwards (compared to Paraguard where I was bedridden with cramps the day it was installed). At first I did not have any spotting and only had very light, sporadic periods with normal cramps. However, eventually I got cramps once a month that felt like my lady parts were full of rocks rubbing up against me. Painkillers (even prescription) did nothing. The pain got worse as time went on so I switched it out for another birth control. The good news is I did not get pregnant and felt very confident in its effectiveness. Read More Read Less

I have had Skyla for gong on 6 months. It is the most painful thing I have ever been through. They say the pain goes away but it doesn't. The pain is always there. It can dull a little but suddenly its back at full force. My pain gets so bad I break down into tears and I can't move. I have these episodes of pain several times a week. Painkillers don't help at all. The process of getting Skyla was also painful I almost screamed. I would rather end up pregnant then have this drug in me. I'm getting it removed as soon as possible. I would not recommend this device on my worst enemy. BEWARE.Read More Read Less

Can't speak on the effectiveness yet, since I only had it placed yesterday. Worst pain in my life getting it inserted, doctor said cramping... it was more like a sharp, stabbing pain, followed but awful cramping. I took a percocet about an hour prior to insertion, and I don't think it did a damn thing. I nearly threw up and then I fainted. Had to wait around for my blood pressure to come back up. Sweating profusely and felt all around dizzy for about 30 minutes. The doctor said this is something that happens to about 5% of women... lucky me. After that, a little cramping here and there (only about 18 hours ago). Read More Read Less

Worst/most painful experience ever!!!! I felt like I was lied to because my doctor said it would be slightly uncomfortable and quick. I'm 21 and never had children, and didn't take any medication except Tylenol. The doc said it would feel like cramps. NO! It was horrible, it felt like What I would imagine giving birth is like, almost passed out and puked, extreme sweats and painful cramps for weeks later! My mother talked to her doctor about it and she was shocked I didn't receive a medication to soften my cervix seeing i had never had kids. Moral of the story....OUCH! Read More Read Less

When I got my Skyla 10 months ago I was 21 years old. Let me just say, getting my skyla in was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I have a pretty high pain tolerance and came in not expecting such an experience. As soon as it was placed I immediately felt not just the cramping, but very faint and nauseous. The nurse beside me lay me completely flat as I began sweating and was ready to faint. I was flat and so I accepted my fate. I stayed conscious but could not move without feeling as if I would, for about 45 minutes. I finally sat up a little and I began to throw up. That is when I began feeling intense cramps as if I were going through contractions. The rest of the day was filled with about 2-3 minutes apart contractions where I was sobbing and crying. As the days went on I still had horrible cramps. Before my IUD, I had tried multiple BC pills and even the Depo shot but had never experienced cramps even half as bad. My doctor told me they will pass within a few weeks. Well weeks passed and I still had horrible cramps to where I could barely stand or think straight. Months passed and I was getting my period about every 3 weeks and still had very bad cramps, but not as bad as they were before. It has now been 10 months since insertion and my cramps are still very bad about every other week, so my doctor and I decided its time to take it out. I really wish the IUD had worked out for me but clearly its not made for everyone, and its hard because you don't know until you try it. I don't recommend it to my friends when they ask about it. However, I don't tell them not to, because it could work for them. Every body truly is different. Read More Read Less

I got my Skyla inserted in April 2015. The insertion for me was a breeze. It was a slow uncomfortable cramping feeling. I had a very normal cycle prior to the Skyla and my cycles are still regular. What has changed is the intensity of my cramps. Before, I had normal cramps that were pretty painful at times. Now, I can't move when I cramp. It is so severe and so horrible that I feel like something is terribly wrong each time. Only to find out that no, everything is fine. This does not happen every month, just every couple months, so I suppose I can deal with it. My periods have become much lighter as well. I now need only a pantyliner most days of my period whereas before that would not have been possible. On the others hand, my sister got the Skyla and does not have any negative side effects. Overall, I would recommend the Skyla because yeah, these cramps are absolutely terrible, but it doesn't make me moody, it doesn't make me gain weight, or break out, and I don't have to get monthly shots or take a pill every day. The Skyla is extremely convenient and for 7/12 months I have had absolutely no issues with it.Read More Read Less

I read many, many reviews before getting Skyla inserted. I was anxious to get it because I generally have the WORST cramps imaginabe for 1-2 days a month and I was ready to be done with them. However, when I finally got it inserted (a little painful, but not as bad as the following days), I spotted almost every single day, sometimes quite heavily, so that it stained my underwear even with a panty-liner, and I had heavy CRAMPS on and off. Sometimes the cramps were actually worse than what I had gotten before Skyla was inserted. I might have been able to deal if it were just a few days, but it was almost every day for several hours for 3 weeks. Finally, I had to get it removed. NOT WORTH IT. On top of that, since removal (1 week ago) I have had some small cramps and continued spotting every day. If you've always had heavy cramps skyla may not help (and could make it worse)!Read More Read Less

I have been on the skyla for 4 months now, and I have sporadic cramps that come and go as they please. They are horrible. The skyla works great! But I can't handle the pain. Cramps come often after intercourse and with the cramps come bright red blood. Hoping this goes away with time. Got it checked out, Dr. said everything looks good under the hood.

I had Skyla inserted in March 2015. The insertion took maybe five minutes max with my doctor talking me through the process the whole time. Unlike many other women it seems, besides a little pinch and some discomfort the insertion didn't hurt. My doctor did mention that I have a very agree able cervix, whatever that means. I experience some cramping that day and the next but went to work, I'm a waitress, and had no problems. Since April 2015 my period have become much lighter and shorter than before Skyla. I do experience PMS a bit more with some extra breast tenderness and light cramping. I LOVE my Skyla though. It's great little insurance policy against pregnancy and since I don't have to remove it for three years, I am now traveling the world knowing that if I fall in love I'm covered.Read More Read Less

I had it inserted February 2015. Getting it inserted was so very painful, I had periods that were extremely heavy and long (average 14 days). Oh in August 2015 I found out I was PREGNANT! Don't get this mess!

I had Skyla inserted in August 2015 and getting this inserted was one of the worst pains of my life. It left me with horrible cramping for the next 2 days after insertion. I was told at my one month follow up that pain will subside in 3-4 months. I am 7 months in and have had heavy periods with unbearable cramping. Before skyla I had regular periods with no cramping whatsoever. These cramps leave me wanting to cry and unable to move. I have also gained 20 pounds since August. I'm not sure whether this IUD is worth all this pain.Read More Read Less
