Today marks my one year on Qsymia and I wanted to see if there were any long term affects so I decided to read these comments. To my surprise there doesn’t seem to be any long term users….most are 90 days or less. I am pleased to say in that since I started this drug I have lost 138lbs and I am going to continue until I lose 75 more. This drug is really for those who need it. I have but back ...

I'm starting my 3rd month on Qsymia. I've only lost about 7-10 lbs. So, I have not seen the kind of results people are posting on here. Maybe its not simply effective for me as with others? I do have some of the same side effects that have been described but nothing to the level that makes me want to quit just yet. Hand shaking, dry mouth, some small level of anxiety, etc... but no real issues. Hopefully, at $200 per month out-of-pocket I see some results soon as I'm not asking for miracles. My target is to lose 30-35 lbs. Read More Read Less

I took this medication for about 8 months and lost 67 lbs. I was on blood pressure medications and I just didn't feel well at all. I was sleeping a lot. Once I started the medication and started loosing the weight, I was able to get completely off of my blood pressure medications. I felt really good! I went from a size 18 to a size 10. The only side affects I had was the dry mouth, foods had a weird taste therefore I ate less, and carbonated drinks were awful which helped me cute out sodas completely. To this day I haven't had a soda in 2 years. I would definitely recommend this medication if your doctors will prescribe it!!! it, along with exercise, has helped me change my life for the better.Read More Read Less

First two weeks was on the low dose, this is starting my 3rd week and it's on the next higher 7.5 dose. My side effects have been minimal--dry mouth (drink lots of water), funny taste in mouth, and can wake up often in the night but I'm usually able to fall back asleep. Compared to menopause, these side effects are nothing. ;) This is day 15 and I've lost ten pounds. I've not lost any weight in the last ten years--only gained--so I'm motivated to stay on Q. I need to lose another 60 lbs to be healthy. In another 4 weeks, I go back to my Dr. for evaluation. My doctor also has me on a diet of no more than 1200 calories a day. Tracking my calories has been very beneficial in seeing where the culprits are in my previous way of eating. I have not been exercising other than the 2000-3000 steps I get in daily (not good). With the patient savings card from the manufacturer, I pay $135/month at Walmart--my insurance does not cover it. I am a 53 year old woman.Read More Read Less

First month has been OK. Have lost an average of 2 lbs a week which is good. Have noticed several side effects-- carbonated beverages taste flat and sweet, I often have a bad taste in my mouth, I am definitely not as happy and upbeat as I typically am, but the worst is the insomnia. I wake up at midnight every single night, and then several times afterward until the alarm sounds at 6. Have tried adjusting the time I take my Rx, from 10 a.m. to 7 a.m., still wake up. Going to talk to doc about suggestions. The rest of the side effects are tolerable if it continues to work! Read More Read Less

This drug is absolute garbage. I have gained 20lbs since using for 3mo. Looked up topiramate and it's purpose is pain med. Makes me unable to focus, low energy, went up 2 sizes. This is not for weight loss. Save your money. This co. Needs to change advertisement because it is false!!!!!!!

I am very frustrated with this drug. A family member took it, lost weight but had to stop taking it due to hand tremors. 2 years later her hands are still trembling. Her MD is aware and has been evaluating it. It has affected her life. The 30lbs she lost on this drug is not worth having shaky, trembling hands for over 2 years.

I was on the medication for 11 months. I lost 35 pounds without physical activity. I did experince tingling sensations in fingertips and problems remembering or getting words out. The memory problem is the reason for getting off the medication, because of effecting my job. Since coming off the medication I am noticing my appetite coming back, which scares me because I do not want to go back where I started.

The first time I used this I believe I used it around 4-5 months and lost almost 70 pounds with no exercise. I was then considered "healthy weight" Of course, once I got back off of it I eventually started drinking soda again and gained some weight back. I went back on it and have lost 6 lbs in 1-1/2 weeks. 7 more pounds would put me within at the highest "healthy" weight. I think part of it is the mindset you go into it with. If you go into it with a negative mindset, you're likely to convince yourself into thinking it's not really working that week. However, for me.. there is no convincing that could be done. I am rarely ever hungry. I have to force myself to eat. I will say though, this time around I started on the 7.5mg and jumped up to the 15mg because we already knew my body reacts fine to the meds. Soda tastes very flat. I still want it, but when I try it it's gross lol. Sugary things are far too sugary now (and trust me.. sugar is my thing). Meat can sometimes be unappealing.. I literally have to force myself to eat. THE DRY MOUTH! I'm not sure if this is a negative or positive side effect? Because it is constant and no matter how much water you drink, it doesn't let up.. but on the other hand, you drink a TON of water.. which helps you lose weight and all the other benefits of drinking a lot of water. Anyways.. downside is the ridiculous cost. I have to pay full price.. but to me. It's worth it. Just make sure you change your lifestyle while taking the meds.. because when you go off it, you'll just gain the weight RIGHT back and there goes all your money and those new clothes and waistline, down the drain. This drug ends your addiction to food. It helps with appetite, but honestly you still have hunger. If it was just the stimulant killing your appetite you could lose weight by drinking coffee all day. What this does is kill your addiction. You will not NEED food. You can eat half a burger. You can eat 4 of 20 McNuggets. I do not know how better to put it. I never would have said I was addicted to food until after starting this drug and realizing that was the problem. I did not need food, I craved food. I craved over-eating. I still want to eat, I just have no desire to over eat. I eat the same stuff, just less of it. This drug changed my life. Please try it, despite the price. The weight loss is amazing, -41 lbs in 13 weeks. I feel great. No negative side effects unless the energy of six cups of coffee is a negative side effect. Actually, any carbonated beverage tastes old and flat. All sodas are terrible. So is beer. Guinness is the only thing that tastes right since it is not carbonated. Best of luck. Read More Read Less

I did two weeks at the lowest does, then 3 weeks at 7.5 mg. I ate 1200 calories, worked out 4 times per week burning 500 calories each time, drank approx. 75 oz of water, ate 70 g protein, <70 g carbs a day and have only lost 5 lbs. Side effects: VERY dry mouth, feel very weak, very tired/no energy, can sleep but not a deep sleep, can't concentrate, feel overly emotional. One positive is that is does curb the appetite, but the negative side affects are worth it.

Been taking the medication for 1 year. Started out with the lowest dose and currently on the highest. I was 195 lbs currently weighing in at 157. I started out with walking daily now I do crossfit as well. So I didn't just rely on the pill to do everything. The only side effect I had was my top lip would get a fuzzy feeling went away after 3 weeks. Other than that nothing else. I sleep well probably due to the exercise. I'm being taken off the medication after the start of the year as my doctor is happy with my progress as am I and I have changed my eating habit as well. This medication does work but you must put in work as well. I know I will have to continue on my lifestyle change and I will because I feel so much better. Read More Read Less

I'm extremely satisfied with my weight loss, 53 pounds in one year, but I too have been experiencing terrible hair loss and just started with the panic attacks. I've been weening myself off but the thought of gaining the weight back terrifies me. Dry mouth also...keeps me drinking water though and I love that cause I actually crave water, and I drink it all day. And I also can't sleep for nothing!!

I am on my second round of this. I took it for 5 months and lost 15lbs over 4 month. The only reason I stopped was the hair loss and my tongue got a weird coating. When I researched the hair loss all I could find was people saying to stop the drug, no solutions of how to help with the hair loss and stay on the drug. Very frustrating.

I have been on qsymia for 4 months now and started noticing hair loss by the hand fulls the last few weeks after doing my own investigation I found out that this is a side effect they seem to forget to tell you. I have lost 25 lbs and don't have any of the other side effects but now I have to make the decision continue taking it to lose the weight or lose my hair and go bald.

I have lost 19 pounds in 30 days my dosage is 11.25. I was previously on the medication and liked the results. To be honest it really is a long term medicine and doctors are seeing that now. I do have that metallic taste but it is not bad, I drink water all day, but it has changed my eating habits. This time around I am eat better almost every morning I have either a small oatmeal, or greek yogurt and I have a small salad every day at lunch. At lunch I normally can't finish it so I nibble on it again at around 4. At home I have some protein and some veggies no starches and bread just a small portions. I am finally great. I think this time I will reach my goal. I am very pleased! You have to change your eating habits, drink more water and next I for me is adding more exercise! I was at 230 I am now at 211..I want to get some more weight off of one of my knees but I am ready..Motivated and ready!!Read More Read Less

Took the medication first at it's lower dose, then increased dosage. Felt weakness, numbness in hands and legs, lack of sleep, dryness in my mouth, intense depression and confusion. Couldn't find the words to describe or name something. It effected my memory. Awful! Now I know what a stroke victim goes through with Aphasia. I got nervous and hoped that these effects would not become a permanent thing, so I stopped the meds. Back to my old weight....and then some. Sigh...never ending battle.

I do not recommend this drug due to the side affects. I experienced depression, mood swings, anger, and aggressive behaviors while on this drug. It is unfortunate that I have spent $120 out of pocket and have been unable to receive a refund for such a bad product. Please consider a different weight loss medication. I am highly disappointed in Qysmia.
