I have tried to quit smoking many, many times. I was finally successful while using Zyban. Not only were my cravings much milder and easier to handle, by I did not substitute with food. Very beneficial for me.

This medication made me feel ill. I constantly felt nausea and at times had the feeling I was going to pass out. Sometimes I would get tunnel vision and lose concentration. It was the most aweful method I've ever used to quit smoking.

After smoking for 30 years, my doctor gave me a Zyban kit. I started taking the Zyban - one a day for the first three days, then 2 a day after that. I set my quit date for 9pm on day 8. On day 8, at 8:30pm I lit my last cigarette. My first day not smoking was not too bad, although I couldn't stop thinking about it. Day two of my quit was a piece of cake. I even drove a 30 mile trip with the windows up in the car with my husband smoking all the way, and we went to a Jazz club and sat upstairs where it was smoky. Didn't bother me in the least. Day three was kind of hard, but I got through it. Through the first couple of months when I would get a craving, I would get up and clean. I drank EVERYTHING except coffee through a straw. At about the three month mark I had a very bad craving and went to the store with the intention of buying a pack of cigarettes, but when I got there, I thought of all the hard work I'd done to get to this point, and instead bought a bottle of water with a sports cap. That did the trick. Zyban had some side effects. For the first two weeks I suffered from insomnia. But I got through it. A good side effect was that my libido improved. (My husband liked that!) I only stayed on it for three months. I ended up back on Welbutrin because of the depression that often follows quitting smoking. If your insurance doesn't cover smoking cessation, ask your doctor to prescribe Welbutrin. It's the same drug, but prescribed for depression. Your doctor will have to record your diagnosis as depression for insurance purposes. I haven't smoked now in almost 15 years, so I'd say yeah, it worked!Read More Read Less

I smoked for 25 years, and gave up with Zyban. I did have side effects but they are most likely nicotine withdrawals, which are awful themselves. After two weeks I had no side effects. Zyban takes away agitation, stress and the depression associated with giving up smoking. Cravings are short, fleeting and nowhere as intense as doing it cold turkey. I've read a lot of negative reviews on Zyban and I suspect a lot of the side effects were actually the nicotine withdrawal itself, not Zyban, such as my own that were mild shaking, insomnia, spaced out sometimes, teeth grinding in the first week, easing into the second, back to normal third week on. My only side effect now is waking with dry mouth. I wanted to share my success story as I've tried to quit using other methods and couldn't handle the cravings. I have been smoke free for the two months I have been on Zyban. Read More Read Less

This medication is great for lessening the blow of quitting smoking. I didn't gain weight when I quit. I wasn't stuffing my face. Most importantly, I wasn't a monster to the people around me. I tried Chantix and that made me go crazy...emotional, depressed, and sick to my stomach. This medication is the way to go.

I lost 8 lbs in the first week of use. I smoked the first week and by the second week cigs tasted terrible. It has only been 2 weeks with no cigs I am confident that the meds are working. 20yrs of smoking.

In the second week I felt disconnected and anxious. I continued use despite feeling strange because it wasn't something I couldn't deal with and after another week or so I felt normal again. I had smoked one half a pack/day for almost 10 years and tried quitting 3 times prior unsuccessfully with the patch and going cold turkey. It was a struggle behaviorally but since the meds stopped my physical withdrawal symptoms and the urge to smoke I was finally able to overcome it. I quit smoking on July 13th, 2010 and I hardly ever think about smoking anymore. I was dedicated to quitting and zyban helped me do it.Read More Read Less

I am 66 and have smoked since I was 17. I was smoking 25 a day. I have in the past tried to stop by going cold turkey,& by hypnosis, with no success, -hideous withdrawal symptoms, and huge weight gain despite careful diet.I asked my Dr for a meatabolism booster and appetite suppressant to assist my next attemot to quit. She laughed!!. Then told me about Zyban. I took it for a week then stopped smoking-just like that I became a nonsmoker. It's been a month now and I have no cravings whatever. The only side effects have been slight morning nausea-dealt with by eating something, and a tendency to sweat more than usual on exertion. My weight is staying constant. I would describe this as a wonder drug. I can even be around smokers with no desire to join them- actually they look a bit weird to me!!!. Read More Read Less

Aside from the headaches and occasional bad stomach cramps I am now finally smoke free after 14 years. Was a bit of discomfort worth it? YES! and knowing what i know i would do it again in a heartbeat. I am one of 9 friends who have done it, only 2 of us had any side effects ( mine and a bit of insomnia ) thats it. Nothing has ever been this easy, HIGHLY recommend it.

shortly after the first dose i noticed increased heart rate and uncomfortable anxiety-like feeling when i tried to rest. By the third day i wasn't sleeping and it felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest...pulse rate increased too. Last dose was on day 5, and day 6 went to my physician. I was miserable, and my BP was through the roof (175/110). She wanted me to go to ER, but i declined. You could not pay me to ever take this medicine again...just horrible...and just about did me in...Read More Read Less

Started with 1 a day for 3 days then 2 a day for the next 2 months. My quit day was day 14. I quit 5 days ago and have done so well. I had a few withdraws but nothing major. I can even stand outside with neighbors smoking and not go crazy!
