I am sending an update from my review on 10/24/11. I previously posted that his drug caused me headaches, severe cramps, and continuous bleeding while taking it. I failed to add that I had immense hair loss over the 3 months I took Amethia. I went to a dermatologist last week regarding my hair loss. Now I didn't include this in the last post because I didn't associate it with the drug at that ti...

Omg I thought I was the only one! I had been on Tri-Sprintec for almost 3 years and I wanted something that would make my periods stop especially because we were going places every summer and having a period was getting in the way of enjoying my summers. My doctor perscribed Amthethia and I was stoked the first month because I had no period, but I had some spotting my second month and now bleeding...

I have taken Amethia for almost a year and 6 months now and have had no problems. The first 3 months I had extreme breast soreness and break outs I had really high libido and no problems with acne or break outs. The next three months the breast soreness went away and not quite as high libido but still good. I have yet to have a problem with bleeding or spotting before this pill I would usually have 7 day heavy periods. Now I have about 4 day light periods every 3 months which is awesome! and you can skip your period if you like as well! which is so great. However on the week of your period its not quite as bad cramps but still pretty bad!! Read More Read Less

This is the first time I take any form of birth control, so from the start I did my research of the many types and brands. At the end of the day I chose Seasonique-lo, but because of a miss-communication with my Dr I got Amethia (or rather the generic for the regular Seasonique) Right away I looked up reviews and I was honestly freaked out by the many negative reviews here. I decided to go ahead and try it out anyway since BC works differently in each body. I am so happy to say that it's worked out great :) I started my pack on the day of my period by Dr orders (and biologically speaking it is the best time to start since your cycle is just resetting) So that I think helped with my body adjusting quicker. Pros: I don't have mood swings. If anything I feel "calmer" now without the monthly fluctuating of hormones. Higher libido. Cons: My first period lasted about 2 weeks and then 2 weeks later, I got my period again for like 3 weeks. It was light but annoying for me and my man. Just ride it out. It gets better. It's just your body adjusting. Tips: Take it at the SAME time each day. Set up your alarm on your phone. I have two alarms. A warning like 3 min before and at the exact time. Trust me. It helps. Also, I started a healthy lifestyle regimen around the same time I started taking this (coincidence). I eat clean, stay away from junk/processed foods, drink over 4 liters of water everyday, weight train and cardio 4+ days a week, and take fish oil and multivitamins/minerals. Lifestyle and nutrition plays a HUGE factor on how your body reacts to medicines, so definitely keep that in mind. Just give it a shot. Don't give up after the first crummy weeks. Your body usually takes about 6mo to a year to get used to any birth control. Good luck! :)Read More Read Less

I was taking Amethia for 1,5 month and I started to experience spotting like blood cloths. During 1 week it got worse and I started to have vaginal bleeding as a regular menstruation. I am gonna call to my doctor. I gained 12 pounds and my mood like a crazy.

I have been on Amethia for about two years and can gladly say I have had no problems. It's the first birth control pill I tried so my body didn't get used to one pill and then get tossed a different one, maybe that's why my experience has been so good. It's takes your body awhile to get used to these hormones so give it at least 3 months before quitting. I have sex with my fiance regularly and have had no mishaps. I have no spotting between periods and they are usually very short. They are heavier than when I wasn't on birth control but that's to be expected when you only get a period once every three months. Hope this helps! Read More Read Less

I'm taking this for my endometriosis, to control uterine and ovarian cysts, and to treat heavy/painful periods. I was on Seasonique for years without a problem until my endometriosis flared up. OBGYN took me off of it after corrective surgery to give my body time to adjust. My insurance said I can only have the generic form of Seasonique now, which is Amethia. For some reason I'm having all kinds of side-effects with Amethia that I did not have with Seasonique. I've been having worsening headaches, mood swings, weight loss and gain, and horrible cramps during the week I would normally have a period (but don't, since it's 3 months at a time). I've also had a mild flare up of acne and lethargy. Sometimes (not often) my breasts will get very tender and sore. I'm not happy but I don't have a choice.Read More Read Less

I hate this product! I'd been on seasonique and camrese for about seven years and maybe had break through bleeding 3 or 4 times. Then my pharmacy switched me to amethia and it has been awful! I have horrible acne, my cramps are extremely painful and I am so overly emotional for no reason! I've never had any problems with my birth control until taking Amethia. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow to have them switch me back to camrese or seasonique. Do not switch to amethia!

I have never had any trouble with birth control and after having my last child my MD gave me this prescription. I began bleeding at week 7 and have been bleeding for 2 weeks. Plan on calling my Dr first thing Monday morning to request another pill. This is awful. I have had terrible breakouts, mood swings, and of course the bleeding. Do not recommend this pill.

Major mood swings, I had depression and anxiety. Marked fatiuge, where I was napping every day. If I was more than an hour late taking the pill, I would have "break through bleeding" which for me was a heavy period. Mine lased two and a half weeks! Ladies, DON'T take this drug!!!

I started this mainly to control my pain from endometriosis and the birth control part was just an added benefit. I have one week left of my second month and it was going pretty good. my endometrial pain went down in days slightly and I was happy. 2 weeks ago I had a large amount of bright blood when I used the restroom then absolutely nothing for a Day. the week following I had brown spotting and now for the past week I've been having pink and its a little more then spotting. all together I have been bleeding for 2 weeks and it has caused my endometriosiss to act up, making up for the lack of days I suppose. I have also been extremely emotional. without any reason I will start crying and find myself getting snappy with ppl. good luck to those who try this, I will be stopping after visiting my dr, I rather be in some pain then be depressed, miserable and wearing pads daily.Read More Read Less

PLEASE LISTEN TO ALL OF THE COMMENTS!! I wish I had found this WEEKS ago. I am only taking the amethia tablets to not have periods. My tubes were died sixteen years ago. Nonetheless, the first month was great-sex everyday with hubby if I wanted, the second month, not too bad either, slight spotting-expected so no worries. Now, the third month-missed taking one pill at my "regular time" and next thing I know I'm bledding for two weeks-not just spotting either. I call the doctor as this is past the 3-5 day marker and no return phone call. Thus, began my Internet search and found these comments. THANK YOU LADIES FOR SHARING!! I left a message that they need to either switch me to Seasonique (haven't read any complaints about it), a new bc, or I"m changing doctors. I will not take another pill...my husband and I have been miserable!!! No LOL!!!Read More Read Less

I took Seasonique for years with no problems, I was switched to Seasonale which worked just as well. I was switched again to Camrese, which worked just the same. On my last refill, I was given Amethia. I didn't think any thing of it at first until my face broke out in acne that I can't seem to be able to get rid of, not even with Proactiv. This caused me to investigate the product because I was under the impression that birth control pills reduce the incidences of acne. I was surprised by the comments I found, because I also had crying episodes, and abnormal bleeding. I am currently on week 12 of this pill, I am definitely not taking it again. I am switching back to Camrese. Read More Read Less

I was on Camrese for the last year and had absolutely no problems with it, then three months ago my refill came through as Amethia, and I absolutely HATE it! I don't even have to miss a pill and my period will start and won't stop until I completely stop the pill for a week, so I can have a three week long period if I just try to keep taking my pills like normal. This is worse than just the normal pill, at least then I know when my period will be coming and it will only be for three or four days. Am going to the doctors next month to ask them to get me on something else. Read More Read Less

Was prescribed Seasonique by my OBGYN due to un pleasant side effects with other BC. It was significantly cheaper to go generic so I did. Was given Camrese. LOVED it! Felt better than I had in years! I did experience severe breast tenderness (seriously they felt as though they might fall off) and had some irritating break through bleeding. But the doc warned me of these and since I felt so great decided to push thru. After 6 months I was finally leveled out, had lost a few pounds, more energy, fewer periods, life was great! Until I came home from the pharmacy to find they had given me a different generic. Amethia. Didn't think too much of it.... About a week into it and I got a severe breakout of cystic acne (never had much acne to speak of) and was feeling very hormonal.... After a month i was feeling insanely lethargic, dizzy, super depressed and weepy, had zero concentration, acne has worsened, along with a bucket of other symptoms that left it nearly impossible for me to function in every day life. I have tried several different pills LoOrgetral, Yaz, and a few others and this was by far my VERY WORST experience with BC. this stuff should be taken off the market. Don't take it. After 25 years of not needing any birth control, was married and back into the dating scene- I researched BC options and my Dr and I deceided this generic drug would be best and eliminate periods. Week one went fine, week 2 not so good and bleeding started. I am in week 8, 7 weeks I have been wearing S+ tampons and a pad w clotting. The periods became so bad it even saturated my pants at work which was very embarrassing and I had to go home, it was down both sides of my inner legs and had clots that passed my tampon I had just changed. I called my OB/GYNE for the 4th time since starting this drug and TOLD them I am no longer taking this drug and stopped taking it 4 days ago. I had to get a blood test for anemia and it turned up negative. I am STILL bleeding bad and they now want to do a vaginal ultrasound to rule out endometriosis, fibroid tumors and cysts. I had some benign small cysts prior that were no big deal but all I can say is LADIES THIS DRUG IS THE WORST! I am just hoping my energy level comes back to normal, my mild headaches go away and the bleeding-oh the bleeding-just go away. I am looking into getting my tubes tied. This is just crazy!Read More Read Less

Don't take this generic pill...EVER..even if it's free! The first month was a breeze, 2nd month I started spotting and the 3rd month had a full period for over 2 weeks!! I had the most horrible cramps all throughout the day and night. I called my Dr. immdediately and had them switch me to Seasonique (which he originally wrote my prescription for, but my pharmacist talked me into the generic because of price). You get what you pay for and what a horrible way to find that out! This pill should be taken off the market! Read More Read Less

I've been on amethia for about.. 4 or 5 months and it was fine at first, I didn't have my period the first two months then the 3rd month of the packet I got a weird colored discharge that was sort of brown and it was there for about 2 weeks and then it turned into actual blood. So I thought I got my period early, but at the end of the 3rd month. I have my period. I've had major cramps while taking this medication, I've been extremely bloated, I'm easily angered and I am easily offended. So basically I'm moody. I cry about seeing a commercial on tv or when I hear a song. Which is ridiculous. It makes me constipated and I have terrible cramps. I drank a laxative powder mixture one day, it didn't work, I drank another one and nothing worked!! Stool sofeners don't work so far. I'm just going to stop taking this crap and get a different kind. Or I'll just deal with a period every month. -_-Read More Read Less

The first pack is a bit of a struggle because you'll get a longer period but if you stick with it, it works realllly well. I'm not on it to prevent pregnancy just to not get a period as often (severe menstral migraines) and it does the trick for me. I'm almost finished with my third pack and things are finally pretty normal. By now breakthrough bleeding is all over with. Anyway, this product does give me some mood swings but I take a natural mood balancing supplement, SAM-E which takes care of that right away. It's really a great drug you just have to stick with it for awhile.Read More Read Less

I HATE this pill. Since I've switched pills all I've been doing for the past two weeks now is spotting. I am so emotional lately, which I'm usually never. All I seem to do is cry over the littlest things. I have HORRIBLE cramps everyday. TERRIBLE pill. Will be switching ASAP.

Horrible medication! I took Seasonique years ago with no issues, so when I decided to go back on bc I asked for Seasonique and the pharmacy replaced with Amethia. Almost immediately I noticed extreme fatigue, horrible mood swings, really bad cramps, uncontrollable tears and now have been bleeding for 2 weeks! I wish I had read reviews before taking this medication. I am now spending the extra money for Seasonique. I would NEVER recommend this medication.
