I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and I take birth control for a few reasons (#1 to lower my testosterone levels, #2 to have a monthly period since PCOS causes a lack of periods). Over the past 3 years I've been on 6 different birth control pills, and Generess Fe is the best pill I've been on hands down. Every female will react different to the hormones in every pill, so my review will ob...

Asked for an IUD, instead was given Generess Fe. Terrible mood swings, weight gain, nausea, and headaches. Felt like a monster 24/7 after very first dose, Stopped taking after the third day. Remind me again why is this allowed for human consumption?

I just started taking this birth control a week ago, so I am still adjusting. I swtiched from Lo Loestrin Fe because I was having heavy spotting between periods. So far, I have been pretty tired and moody. It's nothing I can't handle, but a little annoying when I go from happy to suddenly pissed off in two seconds. The pills themselves are pretty cool; they're like little breath mints that you can chew or swallow.

I LOVE this birth control! I've been on it for almost a year. The first month or two my appetite shot up, and I gained a little weight. But after that first month or two my body finally got used to it, and my appetite went back to normal, and weight went down again. Other than that there were no side affects! And it's done its job in preventing pregnancy! A+ ALSO, it's nice that it's chewable because you don't need water handy to take it! In fact, you're not supposed to swallow it with water. To has a nice minty flavor. Read More Read Less

This was the first pill I was ever put on, and upon trying a cheaper option after about 18 months of use I immediately switched back. The only real side effects I ever had were headaches for the first month or so and consistently heightened emotions around that time of the month, but those are all to be expected and pretty manageable. Other than that my cycle has been very predictable and pretty light.

I hate this stuff. It has made me break out with acne terribly. I will try anything else but this. I have not had good experiences with hormonal birth control.

I am taking this to see if it will decrease my ovarian cysts size and as management for endometriosis. It is absolutely horrible!! I would rather deal with the pain of endo and risk the cysts rupturing!! I am a basketcase on this drug--I snap at people for no reason. Also am naseous all day and severe bloating. I would not recommend this for the management of endometriosis/ ovaraian cysts.

I started taking generess April 2013 and it has been absolutely dreadful. I've had breakthrough bleeding almost every month. Periods are painful-I bleed two days after my brown pills were finish. I gained almost 4 pounds (I work out 6 days per week 1.45-2hrs per day-burn anywhere from 1800 calories to 2500 -no joke) intake under 1200 calories or less per day so I know that I do know have poor diet. The only thing this pill does for me is to control my mood swing but I rather have mood swings that the rest of things I am going through. I am going to the DR in 4 days and I am going to ask for a new birth control. To each his own but this pill did nothing worthwhile for me. Read More Read Less

First week I took it I felt nausea in the morning sometimes which I expected while my body was getting used to it and after a while that went away. Spotted for the first two weeks as well but by the third week it was gone. I felt moody and very anxious on this pill and more depressed than usual. I also broke out on this pill, I usually get one pimple now and then but on this I constantly have a bunch of big zits and there's nothing I can do to stop it. I am now switching to the generic of Yaz Loryena to try a birth control that is better for acne.Read More Read Less

I started Nexplanon implant last valentines day, well a year later I got severe migraines with auras, but my period also never stopped. So my doctor recomended I was on a pill too. After I started it I lost the period and everything felt great. Well she took me off the pill and they all started again. I got my nexplanon out about 2-3 weeks ago and she has had me on Generess FE since due to my low iron and how imbalanced I was. I feel great, slightly tired, light period, and it's so much better than the implant I had, as far as effective from stopping birth, I don't know yet. I tried the pull out method along with the birth control about a week ago so I hope it works I haven't been too worried from most of the up comments I've read it seems to be my best option.Read More Read Less

Pros: got rid of my acne, no weight gain, 2 day periods, minty taste, easy to take, never had a pregnancy scare, cheap ($25, but i wanna switch to a generic brand to pay less, but this one doesn't have a generic brand...). Cons: VERYYY irritable, pissy all the time (i get mad at the littlest things), i think my hair falls out more (not sure...), i have headaches a lot (idk if its caused by the pill), i just realized my sex drive is ZERO now (sucks so much since i have a boyfriend) When i first got on this pill, i thought the pissy moods were caused by the people at my school, but now i realized that its caused by the pill. i really wanna get off it so i can have my sex drive back and become normal, but it turned me psycho and crazy. I'm 18. I'm sorry if this scares you but every birth control pills turn you into a different person cause of the hormone. OVERALL, i would recommend this pill. it does the job.Read More Read Less

I started taking this medication to manage my PCOS. The OB/GYN wanted me to go on Brevicon, which I had taken before for birth control, and that medication only resulted in terrible side effects. This medication has quite literally saved my life. I had breakthrough bleeding, breast tenderness and a little nauseau for the first three months, but now that has all gone away. It's easy to take, with a minty taste, however the inactive ferrous sulfate pills taste terrible. I went from having a 37 day cycle to 28-29 days, which has helped my PCOS tremendously. The only drawback is the cost. Even with the $25 copay coupon via the website, I still end up paying about $65 for a one month supply. Totally worth it though, hopefully a generic version will be produced soon. Read More Read Less

I have only been taking this pill for a week but so far I have no complaints. I have taken other pills which I vomited right back up as soon as they were taken. I have also been on the depo provera shot, which wasn't bad but did make me gain a little weight. So far the only side effects to generess is I am tired all the time. I do have some cramping but not worse than before I started it. I recently had a miscarriage about 3 weeks ago. We will see how the rest of the month goes, as I know it takes a full month for this pill to work.Read More Read Less

This is an easy and affordable medication for birth control. The pills are chewable and taste minty. My only adverse reaction to this medication is swelling and bruising of my left knee and ankle with visible varicose veins to the point I had to stretch and exercise the leg so it wouldn't feel numb. This began a week and a half after taking Generess Fe and I am afraid there may be a blood clot that has formed above my left knee within one of the varicose veins due to taking this medication. I have stopped taking my birth control due to the high chance I have deep-vein thrombosis in my left leg. Prevention of this side-effect includes staying hydrated, moving legs and ankles often while seated for long periods, and seeking a doctor to assess and avoid pulmonary embolism (a clot breaking apart and traveling to the lungs that is often fatal).Read More Read Less

This was the first birth control I've ever tried, and went through three months of it before my insurance wouldn't pay for it. At first all was well, it tastes minty so that was cool and it never made me nauseous or anything but my mood swings were ridiculous after the first month and a half. I hadn't really noticed I was being so emotional, I didn't think anything of it until my boyfriend sat me down and asked why I was crying all the time. I was crying over things that would usually just make me mad or bug me, it brought out a kind of pathetic side to me. I also gained a lot of weight, my appetite never ended with this stuff and I've been off it for a couple months now and already feel so much better.Read More Read Less

I've experienced light spotting periodically. However, this was prescribed to shrink my fibroids......after doing some research two months later to find that the hormone in the birth control pill actually increases growth in fibroid?????? Please do your homework when taking any prescription.

I loved this birth control. Since I used it for regulatory reasons the first month was a little rocky (bleeding almost every day), but every month after has been great. Less abdominal pains and shorter periods. Never had any acne. I now have to switch birth controls because of my insurance and I'm devastated.

The pill was easy to take and I had no problems with it other than the fact that I had breakthrough bleeding every month for 5 months. I eventually had to switch because it did not look like my body would adjust.

I have been on this birth control for over a year now before I was on implanon and I gained a significant amount of weight the dr found out that my hormonal balance was way out of wack so they prescribed me with generess fe. I lost 12lbs in my first month without doing anything different my periods went from 13 days a month (while on implanon) to 4 days of lite bleeding. Unfortunately now thanks to the ACA aka as Obamacare my monthly prescription went from 25 a months to 75 a month with my insurance or if you don't have insurance it was over 500 a month. So now I will be switching to something more affordable. But this Birth Control did wonders for me I had no sickness except for the first month while getting used to it. And didn't have any other side effects! Not to mention my weight decreased significantly & my mood was so much better than when I was on implanon! The worst part about this birth control is the brown chewable pills are down right nasty but if your not ready to have anymore kids its worth it!Read More Read Less

The reason for me starting Generess was because I have an abnormal period...my first period with this birth control made me have a period that lasted two weeks long, which is not okay! That is way longer than anyone should ever have a period. Secondly, it made me feel violently ill. I would get random waves of extreme nausea, I felt like if I moved the wrong way I would throw up everywhere without a chance to hold it back. Also this medication made me feel like a diabetic, I would get the shakes and feel like I had to eat something sweet to get my sugar levels back to where they needed to go. At the beginning I figured this is my body getting used to it but it would happen everyday randomly for hours at a time. As far as other side effects go, I did not seem to gain much weight, maybe a pound... if that, slightly more pimples than usual but nothing I can't handle. Read More Read Less

I'm 18 and I started taking this when I was turning 17. The beginning, I was moody and irritated easily. But it does help you not get pregnant. Everyone's body is different. I'm 5'. 105 pounds. I didn't gain any weight. I weighted 108 when I started taking it. But I feel like I gained a little on my face (chubbier) but it's genetics too. I love this pill. I'm glad my doctor prescribed it to me. I only get my period when I take the 3rd sugar pill and my period lasts for 2 days since it has 4 sugar pills. My hair does not fall out. I had bad acne and it went away after 3 months of the pill. I think it's best for teenage girls IMO. Read More Read Less
