After 11 years of coumadin (couldn't come close to maintaining INR control on generic warfarin), Pradaxa has been a wonderful change. No mixed dose strenghts, no monitoring, no drug or diet interactions, and my cardiologist tells me it is 35% more effective at preventing strokes and embolisms than warfarin (coumadin).

Just received my prescription from the Doctor. Not familiar with the treatment yet. Someone please tell me how do you get the pill out of the blister pack. My wife a half hour then we had to cut the pill out. not safe.

Was taking wafrin (5mg.) for about 8 years. Just went to Pradaxa one month ago. No problems so far. Great no more going for blood work. Notice much fewer afib incidents.

Have been taking it for about 6 weeks to prevent blood clot causing a stroke. 67 years old, and noticed a change in resting heart rate; went up from 50-55 to 75-80 quite suddenly. Since taking pradaxa seem to go 3 days 50-55, then 3 days at 75-85. Very little else changed, though have put on about 7 pounds and wondered if the weight gain might have something to do with the drug?

Overall, a positive experience. Had a concern about a VERY LARGE unaccountable bruise appearing my abdomen upon awakening one morning. Also had a minor cut that took 2-1/2hrs to clot. My cardiologist was not concerned as his focus is on stroke prevention. My primary care physician (also a pharmacist) felt that his prescribed dosage was too high due to my age and the very large unaccountable bruising. She reduced the dosage to half, and I have not experienced further problems. I am concerned about long-term side effects, however. Read More Read Less

Have been on Pradaxa for about 1 year. Major side effect has been severe (at times)burning & itching of hemorrhoids following a BM. Doc took me off Pradaxa for 2 weeks & symptoms disappeared. Hate to think of surgery as hemorrhoids didn't bother me in the past. Looking at other blood thinners to see if condition improves.

Developed gastric bleed. Removed from drug by MO because they have no way to stop bleed if serious. Back on rat posion so doctors can stop the bleed if necessary.

Eye floaters have become severe, and just won't go away. My legs are dark brown due to capillary breaks near the surface. If I take this on an empty stomach, I throw up within minutes. My morning dose leaves me nauseous about half the time. I take a stool softener to counteract the drying effect of this drug. I am seriously thinking of going back to warfarin. Pradaxa is a powerful drug with potent side effects.

The cost in 2012 was a bit less as I contacted the manufactor to get help. but if certain situation exists I must pay 127 a month.... if insurance pays half I can get it for 6o a month...... this is hard as I am retired older lady and income is fixed........

was on this drug for 2 months, had a brain bleed, lost some of my eyesight permanently. Dr said stay right on it. Are you kidding me, I would be dead by now. Quit the drug on my own, and I am glad I did. Back on Coumadin and doing o.k. Have a self testing INR machine, it works great. test once a week, and it takes about 2 minutes to get the results. Never again for Pradaxa and Xralto.

When I first discovered I had atrial affribrilation, I was given Sintrom, however the specialist then changed it to Pradaxa and apart from upset stomach periodically I find it suitable.
