After 11 years of coumadin (couldn't come close to maintaining INR control on generic warfarin), Pradaxa has been a wonderful change. No mixed dose strenghts, no monitoring, no drug or diet interactions, and my cardiologist tells me it is 35% more effective at preventing strokes and embolisms than warfarin (coumadin).

Just received my prescription from the Doctor. Not familiar with the treatment yet. Someone please tell me how do you get the pill out of the blister pack. My wife a half hour then we had to cut the pill out. not safe.

I was prescribed pradaxa due to afib not associated with a valve problem. I have taken 2 capsules daily for 3 years without any apparent side effects. I was taking a full dose daily before taking pradaxa. Bleeding from minor cuts are much less with pradaxa. I hope it is working to protect me from a stroke. I am 74 and in fatherhood health.

why don't you require blood tests to check if your blood is too thick or too thin? I have been happy with Pradaxa but today I had an IV for vitamin therapy and it couldn't be completed. The vitamin drip burned . they had to stop. The nurse said he thought my blood was too thin. He took an INR. We'll find out the results. Is this possible?

Have AFIB and a Pulse rate that would just go off the charts. Been on Pradaxa now for a year and it has kept it under control. No more going off the charts. No real side effects.

On Coumadin I had frequent nosebleeds and black stools. There are no such problems with Pradaxa. I also take metoprolol,& DiovanHCT for high blood pressure & aFib. I have never felt better. I get tired in the afternoon, but I'm 81 after all. Minor authritis has always been with me.

Replaced Coumadin with Pradaxa six weeks ago. Have had four episodes of dizziness / nausea in last two weeks. Diagnosed by my doctor as vertigo. He prescribed stematil as needed. I have never had vertigo before although I am a poor sailor inclined to seasickness so there may be an explanation for the vertigo. Am going to ask my GP to let me go back to Coumadin to see if it clears up the vertigo. As it is I feel unable to drive or fly which is unfortunate because we have two holidays booked next year. I am an 82 year old male in otherwise good health.Read More Read Less

150 MG 2x a day is the dose I take, along with 12.5 of Metropolol to slow heart rate, and a 25 MG of Hydrochlorathizide for High blood pressure. On these meds now for over a year, and joint pain (hip and knee worsening each day) muscles ache, and I have experienced serious bouts of dizziness or rather lopsidedness (falling sideways) ... still have atrial fibrillation problems, feel very tired and lacking energy and drive. Used to be energetic and that is not the case now. Electrolytes register on the low side. Have had 3 hospital visits in last six months with dizziness and general unwellness. One visit was for extreme knee pain which has lasted over one month and is continuing even with physical therapy. Visiting a special in Atrial Fibrillation in Oct. and hope to discuss coming off this drug. My quality of life has deteriorated considerably, and I am thinking there must be another answer or solution. Read More Read Less

I like taking Pradaxa, as I don't have to be monitored every 2 wks. however, a friend had serious stomach bleeding & didn't realize it until "almost" too late. I haven't noticed any of those symptoms.

This drug has changed my life for the better. I am 32 and have had DVT twice in my legs, and was not interested in a lifetime commitment to Coumadin because of all the continual maintenance and food/drug interactions. Before I realized I had DVT for the second time I was feeling exhausted all the time, sleeping up to 15 hours a day (which is SO NOT ME), my legs would throb, I felt depressed and irritable and put on a lot of weight from being so exhausted. My memory was becoming fuzzy as was my attention span (also odd for me because I am a straight A student for the reason that my memory tends to normally be super sharp). After they found clots again my doctor discussed Pradaxa with me, and I was leery because of the lack of an antidote, but hate Coumadin so much I decided to try it. Within 24 hours of taking Pradaxa I felt like a new person. My energy is back, my legs no longer throb, my depression is gone, it has been literally life changing for me. Everyone who knows me now comments how I am back to my old self. All I can figure is my blood was so thick combined with the clots that oxygen was not circulating correctly causing all the symptoms I had been having. The only side effects I have had is stomach cramping (especially if I don't take it with food) and diarrhea- both of which I can deal with in relation to all the positive effects I am having. It may not work for everyone, but for me it has done wonders, and I can eat/drink whatever I want and not have to worry about it wigging out my INR. Read More Read Less

My blood was excessively thin, I would bleed with the tiniest scratch. Severely fatigued and sleepy while on it. Worse part was NEEDED EMERGENCY SURGERY AND WAS UNABLE TO HAVE IT ON TIME BECAUSE BLOOD WAS TOO THIN. I COULD HAVE DIED! Never again, this drug should be off the market - very dangerous!

Lack of periodic testing a definite plus. Increased minor bleeding from minor trauma a minor annoyance. Considerable bruising in arms and hands from "normal" bumps and scrapes.
