I have tried many thyroid medications for my Hashimoto's, and I've never felt well until I switched to Tirosint. The important thing to remember is that this medication is about 25% more potent than an equivalent dose of, say, Synthroid or Levothroid. For example, 50 mcg of Tirosint would be equivalent to about 62.5 mcg of Levothroid. Keep this in mind before switching or you might end up taking t...

As promised, here is my subsequent review of the drug after another week or so. I feared that I was having an allergic reaction, when in fact it turned out it was my air conditioner filter needing replacement. That said, this medicine is absolutely the very best prescription I have taken for this condition. I have had many generics over the years and never had a name brand. I feel like it has been a long time under a gray sky and since taking this, the sun has actually come out. Other than my fear of the allergic reaction, I have had no ill side effects and would highly recommend this medicine. Just be sure to persevere through your body adjusting to it. I believe it takes about a month to know if it is going to work. If you are going to have an allergic reaction, odds are good, it would be pretty early on. Overall, I have to say I feel much better. I do have the excessive sweating that I didn't have with the other drugs. I have tried them all. I have night sweats and my bad cholesterol jumped and not she wants me to take a drug for that. Anyone else have cholesterol problems on Tirosint?

Took this medication for 11 days before having to quit. Caused me to have chest pains, specifically on my left side, along with my left arm being achy for over a week. Also caused me to have insomnia from day one, not to mention it mess with my vision. I was only on a 25mcg dosage.

Go to "impressions" below if you want to skip the back story. I have been on a variety of medications over the past 18 years for my Thyroid. I was hyper active when this began, when I was 27. I am male, and the conditions were unusual. My levels were so high I weighed about 135, and I am 6'1". Since the treatment, I have been low, and now weigh 260. I have had extremely low energy over the years, and also suffered depression at times. Impressions: My Tirosint prescription is a fluke it was prescribed accidentally, normally I have taken generic levothyrine and now I am experiencing some mild allergic reactions. I am honestly not sure if it is allergy however because it happens to be that time of year when I develop allergies anyway, it is probably that. That said, when I started taking this medicine, it felt better than ANY previous medication I have taken. I have not had any adverse reactions that many others have mentioned, other than the allergy, which appears to be related to the current allergy season. I am going to continue with this dose and will come back here to update this in a week or two depending on the timing of things. Read More Read Less

Initially, I thought this drug was the best. I had been on Levoxyl for 5 yrs, exercised ,ate right, but could not lose weight. On Tirosint, I lost pounds of fat and fluid BUT after two months I became deathly ill- heart rate over 180 beats per minute, kidney problems, and extreme problems with balance. BEWARE- you will feel great for 6 wks- then you will feel horrible- weak and sick.I wish this didnt happen- I really felt great for the 1st months.

Second day on Tirosint had anxiety attacks. Six day had pulse rate of 130 and in stroke range. Ended up in hospital for 3 days trying to adjust pulse rate. Drs. unable to find anything wrong with any of my stats. Everything normal. Has to be this medicine. Be careful if taking this med. Was on Levoxyl for 6 years and no problems at all. Synthroid made my hair fall out.

I started taking Armor for a month. Felt good the first few weeks and started having body aches, neck pain and severe chest pain. Went to cardiologist and EKG was normal. Dr. Then changed me to Tirosint. After 3 weeks I started feeling sluggish, short of breath and had light chest pain. Now I will have to go back to synthroid. Non generic according to my doctor. Never use generic with synthroid.

Like others, I, too, was initially pleased (very pleased) with this drug - I had been on all the different types of thyroid drugs and experienced severe leg pain (every step I took) with Synthroid products. I came from radiation therapy for hyperactive thyroid - now I am hypo! The leg pain went away in just a day; but over time (6 mths now), it seems that bloating, itching, burning in the skin, and extreme leg cramps have become the norm. (Note: I am at 125 mcg of Tirosint). And don't get me started on the anxiety issues... I have gone back to Synthroid at 112 mcg - it seems to correct my T3/T4 well; however, the TSH is always high (about 20). But trying to get the TSH where it should be causes so many side effects - including extreme fatigue. Monitor this drug carefully; my dosages have been adjusted, but when I moved to the 125 mcg, the TSH declined to .41 (at the lower limit) and the side effects increased to unlivable levels. Also, for some reason, insurance only wants to pay a few dollars of the total price; whereas, for Synthroid, it covers almost all the price.Read More Read Less

My Daughter, 9 years old, has Down syndrome. She is hypo thyroid. She gained 100+ lbs taking levrothyroxine. Switched to Tirosint and she has maintained her levels and weight for 6 months now. I will not switch her to any other drug, but wish this med would be covered under her insurance. It is very expensive. Now that I found something that is working, time to try and get rid of weight, that has been the hardest challenge.

When Levoxyl was pulled from the market, I developed a terrible reaction to Synthroid fillers. Tyrosint is awesome, but the 137 mcg was not equivalent to the Levoxyl 137 so the dose was inc to 150mcg plus Cytomel. This is an excellent medication with NO side-effects. Wish it came in 30 day packs not 28.

loved the fact i did not sweat as much nor retain fluids (at first and on a low dose). I had been on levoxyl for 50mcg for years and felt horrid so when it was pulled from teh market the doctor wanted me to go to unithroid (I can't take synthoid - reacted to the fillers). I asked about tirosint and he gave me 13, 25 and 50 mcg samples telling me to start with 50. The first date at 50 the anxiety was unbelievalble! he said there was no way that was cuased by the drug. next i went to the 13 mcg which was great for a day but it was not a high enough dose so moved to the 25 mcg. I can't breathe; went to my allergist, nothing wrong with anything and the only thing that changed was this drug. now i have heart palps...very bummed wanted it to work but need to breathe moreRead More Read Less

Been on thyroid meds for 13 years now due to thyroid cancer. I have tried so many thyroid meds. Last year or so I began having real problem with my medication and my TSH soared to a 26.0! I have never missed taking my medication ever and always waited an hour before even having coffee, no Ca or Fe until late afternoon, etc..I did some research in my own and found Tirosint. It has been 5 weeks and I am starting to feel "normal" again. I get my blood drawn next week. I am hopeful that this med does the trick short term and keeps on working for the long term (the other thyroid meds sure don't!) Fingers crossed! Read More Read Less

My TSH levels were about 4.4 at my last check, but I had reduced my Levoxyl dosage a bit since I was feeling 'fast'. Guess I reduced it too much. Dr. recommended Tirosint and I liked that it was pure so I tried it. 7 days on it and I had insomnia worse than before. I eat a very healthy diet however and I think my food and fiber intake was preventing absorption. Had not noticed that with the Levoxl but took both on an empty stomach 30 minutes before breakfast. Been on Levoxyl for almost 10 years now so maybe my body has gotten used to it and needs it now. Since the active ingredient is the same in both I can't explain why I felt worse on Tirosint, but my only thought is that its absorption is effected more easily than Levoxyl. Maybe the fillers and stabilizers in Levoxyl prevent it's breakdown as quickly. Or, maybe 7 days wasn't long enough to try it. All I know is I've been in bed 12 hours a night a feel exhausted every morning. I used to just need 7 hours of sleep to feel good. Read More Read Less

I had my thyroid removed in 2008. I have not had a solid 6 months where my levels stay where they are needed. Since starting on this medication my levels have stayed right at 1. Before I was anywhere from .30 to 4.0 within weeks of each other. I believe that the body processes liquid form of medication easier than it does a pill form.

I started using this drug about 1.5 years ago when it first came out. I love it. I was using 100mcg's of Synthroid and switched to 100mcg's of Tirosint. It was a little high so after my 6 month check up we lowered it to 88mcg's. This with 5 Mcg's of non generic Cytomel works perfect for me and I finally feel normal!

Have had problems getting thyroid stabilized after digestive issues following gallbladder surgery. Thought Tirosint might deploy in my body better and my doc was kind enough to let me try it. (Went from 100 MG Levoxyl to 100 MG Tirosint). The first 3 days I felt like a new person: had energy, hair stopped falling out, even grew a couple of eyebrows! Middle of the night day 6 I woke up with chest pain and nausea. Day 7 was a repeat and day 8. Also having rapid blood sugar drops. Now EKG is off and I have been sent for a stress test. Endo is testing blood levels; has never seen a pronounced response to T4 drugs. This drug is the ONLY thing that's changed in my day-to-day routine. If it's causing these symptoms (and it seems likely), then I would say proceed with extreme caution if wanting to try it, especially if you have digestive or heart conditions. Read More Read Less

After 11 years of trying to find a levothroxine that I was not having allergic reaction to, I found Tirosint. I have been on this drug for 2 weeks and feel wonderful. I havent felt this good for 11 years. I've lost water weight and hair lose has slowed greatly. I feel as good as I did before my thryoid was removed. I havent had a TSH blood test yet, so not sure if the dose is correct for me.
