I've been taking this for a little over a month now. My heart rate and blood pressure have both dropped greatly. Here's the downside, I have become very tired and sluggish and have been packing on the pounds like a bear preparing for winter.

Switching from atenolol to Bystolic has greatly improved my life. I was on atenolol for 4-5 years and was always tired and complaining of feeling old and worn out. I would crawl out of bed in the morning and feel as if I had not even slept. Switched to Bystolic several weeks ago and my energy level is beyond belief. I now realiz how truly miserable I was on atenolol and wondering if I was actually suffering from depression and did not know it. Love this medication even though it will cost me more. Seems to work okay. Some swelling in lower legs and feet. Cough, nasal congestion. BP about 130/70 with other drugs such as Cozaar, Hytrin

Although medication has lowered my blood pressure, it has caused GI problems such as heart burn, burping, etc.

I have been experiencing heart palpitations for the past few months. My heart doctor did a stress test and everything was normal. I am currently taking Lisonpril and Verapimil. My doctor gave me samples of Bystolic and I took one as soon as I left the office. Believe it or not, I have not had any palpitations since taking the pill. I don't feel anxious and out of breath like I used to. I used to be able to feel my heart pounding in my chest and at night I could not sleep on my left side because my heart was beating so hard into the mattress that I couldn't sleep. I no longer have that problem. I have not experienced any side effects yet and hopefully I won't. If this drug works this well this fast, I'm definitely staying on it even though it is expensive. I feel like my normal self again. I would recommend Bystolic to anyone who is experiencing heart palpitations. Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with hypertention, and put on this medication. Within 2 days it had lowered my blood pressure to where it needed to be, with no side effects.

My heart rhythm is normal after being on Bystolic for 5 weeks. My blood pressure which was the other condition this was prescribed for has improved. My diastolic number has dropped into the mid to upper 60's, however my upper figure has remained in the 140's. I do experience some tiredness with this drug but it is usually for a short while after taking it, starts about an hour or two after taking it and within another couple of hours things are back to normal. I do experience pain in my arm and shoulder, but I cannot tie it to the drug exclusively as I have fibromyalgia and pain is a normal part of my every day existance. I have experienced absolutely no chest pain. Compared to Toporal xl (spelling?) this beta blocker seems to have fewer side effects. I am hoping that with time that the mild side effect of tiredness will stop. At this time I have to give credit where credit is due- the drug bystolic works well for me.Read More Read Less

I was in denial about my pressure. Thought it was only a problem when I got nervous. But when my pressure went up over 200/195, I knew I had to do something. Unfortunately Bystolic is very expensive. I will ask my doctor for something less expensive, that should do the same thing, Hopefully it will work.

Started this Rx on 10/31 and it took two weeks until I saw results - from 140s/80s to 110/65. I swim for exercise - 6 miles per week. I did feel tired in the first week, but after that I have felt back to normal. I'm at normal weight for my height and have no other medical conditions or Rx's.

At first when I took the drug, I hated the side effects! I realized that I needed to take this med. I have a tachycardia and I have anxiety attacks. Every since my daughter was born, (8 months ago) Ive had a lil high blood pressure problem. I'm 20. I asked Dr to put me on lowest dose. So far so good. No anxiety attacks HALLELUJAH! I wish I knew if I could drink on this med Any one drink on it???? I like the drug and I recommend it! However, this drug is only temporary for me because I'm WAY too young for problems. I'm getting surgery for my AVNRT. Read More Read Less

Bystolic scared me at first because of the newness. I search it on the web and hardly NO information on it. My dr. is Indian and new to the game. I started out with a low HCTZ however it slowly stopped working for me. He introducted me to Bystolic and said it was new. It was so new my pharmacy had to order it. My pressure readings were 156/90 which is Stage 1. After a week on it I have had readings as low as 117/77. Which is GREAT! however I still have moderate to high reading but I think its because I get nevrous before the reading. I suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder so I get nervous easliy. So that may contribute to the off readings.Read More Read Less

I can say that BYSTOLIC is one of the best beta blockers currently available. I have tried several beta blockers (including TOPROL XL). BYSTOLIC is excellent for heart rate control and is also much gentler on the gastro system in comparison to other beta blockers. BYSTOLIC does not have the negative effects on mental functioning such as forgetfullness, mood changes and weird/vivid dreams. It also will improve sexual functioning over time. You need to give this pill time to perform it's magic as your body adjusts. The main side effect's I've had are feeling tired, slight weight increase and occasional joint pains. Keep in mind that every pill has side effects. This is a true all in one pill. It provides vasodilation, works on the Angiotensin sytem, increases nitric oxide, relaxes the heart rate, has blood platelet effects, and controls blood pressure. You do not need to take other HBP medications if your blood pressure is controlled. A problem with this pill is the standard 5mg tablet which is very inconvenient to split in half because it has no score line and is triangular shape. The manufacturer believes that with the 5mg tablet, one size fits all, and everyone should be prescribed 5mg. I disagree, I'm doing fine on 2.5 mg (so far). I can always work my way upward. You will be hard pressed to find a better beta blocker on the market. TOPROL is the second best choice and the gold standard of beta blockers. It is effective, and well researched with a proven record for hypertension, heart failure, MI and arrythmia. It is also known throughout the world. KERLONE/BETAXOLOL is my second best choice, but the manufacturer has had a recall due to generic screw-ups etc. KERLONE is exactly like TOPROL but with less side effects such as weird dreams and fatigue. After 6 wks. have new side effects, tightness in throat, ringing in ears, overall bad feeling. Can't decide if the feeling of shortness of breath is from the throat tightness or lungs. Feel like an extra breath is needed. Right forearm feels weak at times. Feel like I'm in a zone at times and can't escape the overall blah feeling. Have also developed some coughing which seems to exacerbate the tightness and breathless feeling. This is a confusing drug, wondering if it is the lesser of the other evils or if something bette can be had. Afraid to experiment after reading other reviews. Help! Read More Read Less

I have EXTREME fatigue, bouts of dizziness, pain in legs and have developed swelling and immobility in my right knee which wakes me up from my sleep. I've been taking Advil with some improvement until it wears off but I shouldn't have to be taking this on a daily basis. I have no energy or desire to go out of the house. I also have more digestive upset. I feel miserable! I was taking 5mg but my dr. upped it to 10mg because my BP wasn't lowering. The side effects are worsening. I've been on so many different BP meds and I can't find one that my body tolerates. There must be something out there for people like me to tolerate but I don't know where or how to find it but this one sure isn't it!Read More Read Less
