I've been taking this for a little over a month now. My heart rate and blood pressure have both dropped greatly. Here's the downside, I have become very tired and sluggish and have been packing on the pounds like a bear preparing for winter.

Once correct dosage was achieved -- I had to be stepped up from 2.5 to 10mg per day - it worked well. As a side effect, I do have very slight angina on occasion, but it is tolerable.

I started this med. four weeks ago. It is without a doubt the worst medication I have ever used. If you have asthma, DO NOT GO ON THIS MED!

Was using to transition off of Innopran. Immediately starting having swelling of legs and feet. Also now am dealing with beakouts on face and neck. I'm down to 2.5 mg a day and will quit altogether over the next week. Innopran worked better - but weight gain was a big issue.

I was on cardizem before Bystolic and did not work at all. Bystolic has been great for me. My BP has been normal and the only side effect for me has been cold hands and cold feet.

My experience with bystolic in these months has been pretty good. Blood pressure is under control. I have a question... Have any other men experienced problems with sexual issues with this drug or for that matter, has anyone's sexual function improved, worsened or the same?? Thanks for the feedback...

The medication works much better for me than Toprol did. I have been on this medication (5mg daily) for about 8 months after an episode of Atrial fibrillation. I have a family history of High Blood pressure, and a few years ago I started taking Toprol. I felt lethargic, and demotivated, but I kept working out as much as I could. I gained 15 pounds in 30+ days, and I weighed 170 at the time. I took myself off it, and managed my BP with diet and exercise till I had an episode of Afib after getting severely dehydrated. I have been on Bystolic ever since, and it seems to be keepin my heart rate in the "normal" range, and I dont have the side effects that Toprol gave me, though I agree with one reviewer that it impacts erectile funciton, but my wife has lost all interest in such activity anyway, so the actual impact is low. I feel much much better than when I was on Toprol.Read More Read Less

This medication did not help at all. My average B.P. was 145/95. I experienced various side effects such as headaches when I get up in the morning & sometimes through the day. I sometimes experienced shortness of breath. Most of all I did not like the issue of not getting / maintaining erections. Needless to say, my wife did not like that issue either. I would not recommend this medication.

I don't really know if it has worked, I monitor my blood pressure and most of times it's high I may take another 5mg as my doctor directed. but most of the times my blood pressure is high. I took toprol about 4 yrs ago since they took me off of that medication I have probable been on about 10 or more medications, and I still don't feel good.

First went to the E.R., diagnosed with panic attack, BP was 201/107. Was started on toprol xl 75 mg. It works very well except for the side affect....lazy.... no drive to do anything. Told dr. about the toprol since I am a very active person in sports and only 40 years old I could not continue use. I was on this for about 4 months. He switched me over to Bystolic and it has made a world of difference in my energy level and the side effects are minimal at first, and go away within 2 weeks or so. This is a very good hbp med that works for the whole 24 hour cycle unlike toprol that tapers off after about 12 to 14 hours after taking. I recommend anyone needing a beta blocker, this is the oneRead More Read Less

After having my first child my blood pressure went to 200/135. IV medication couldn't even bring it down. Once I started Bystolic it was down to normal again. I thank God that my Dr.finally found something that probably saved my life. I have no side effects either.

It was great at first then after two months I couldn't cut it any longer. PLEASE BE MINDFUL DO NOT STOP TAKING ON YOUR OWN YOU MUST HAVE DR. PERMISSION IT WILL/CAN CAUSE A HEART ATTACK. You must be weaned off I started taking 5mg he made me take one every other day for a weak and put me on norvasc. A calcium blocker instead of Beta Betas play mind games on you.Read More Read Less

For those complaining about the BYSTOLIC side effects after switching from other beta blockers such as TOPROL/METOPROLOL, make sure you were not taking the generic versions. THE FDA has recalled all generic METOPROLOL/TOPROL manufactured by ETHEX and SANDOZ. Make sure you try the brand drug called TOPROL-XL (Astra Zeneca) or LOPRESSOR (NOVARTIS pharm) before switching. CONSUMER LABS has reported these pill issues with some of the generics in Apil 2008.

I have been on Bystolic for 10 months, ringing in my ears, blurred vision, mood changes, elevated weight gain of 30 lbs. I cut the pill in half ( I do not recommend)for 2 weeks than I stopped completely. After 3 days, tightness in my chest was gone I could breathe again while walking. not out of breath. confusion also screwed me up big time. This is my 4th beta blocker . I am forcing myself to drop 20 lbs and hope it works. This all started when I quit smoking 5 years ago.
