I've been taking this for a little over a month now. My heart rate and blood pressure have both dropped greatly. Here's the downside, I have become very tired and sluggish and have been packing on the pounds like a bear preparing for winter.

I have noticed that I am gaining weight but work out more than before I started taking this drug. Has anyone else found themselves getting more of a gut? I maintain a healthy diet and stay away from the sugars and carbs.

i have never felt worse than when i took this drug. my blood pressure was high from a kidney stone but DR didnt know the reason, bystolic was prescribed because my BP was above 170. took this for 4 mos. before the kidney stone was discovered and i have now stopped this drug due to tiredness, legs swelling, nightsweats etc. Dr had no idea of side effects until i told her. now off the drug.

To sunflower,if you have asthma, do not take bystolic, as it is a Beta-Blocker, and asthmatics should not take. i am asthmatic, and was on this drug for four weeks. I had many, many reactions, the worst being, hair loss. I have lost two thirds of my hair, and almost went to the ER, because I couldn't breath...tell your DR to read the label...NOT FOR ASTHMA. My DR which has been treating me for asthma for one, and a half years, somehow forgot to notice this warning!

I am 24 years old with a BP of 180/110 or higher without meds and around 110/70 with Bystolic. I've been on 4 different meds since diagnosed 3 years ago to try to get my BP under control. Bystolic by far has been the best at keeping my BP constant and relatively normal. Since I started Bystolic 5 months ago I work out twice as much, I've gotten in great shape, I eat healthier then I ever have...but I feel WORSE then I ever have! The fatigue is absolutely ridiculous and I can't get enough sleep because of the crazy dreams, which then makes me less focused and in a fog at work. I shouldn't need to wear gloves at my office in the summer because the A/C is on. And my sex drive is next to nothing. I'm 24 and feel like I'm 75 most days. My doctor just keeps telling me that Bystolic has less severe side effects than anything else he could give me...but you know I'd at least like to give a try with something else. So long Doc.Read More Read Less

Don't know what is meant by "Ease of Use" - yes, a pill is easy to swallow. Side effects have included lethargy, slight headache and some swelling. Am taking 10 mg. daily. which I am hoping to reduce to 5mg. Very expensive.

Was on lisinopril for a month and then my throat swelled shut and had to go to the E.R. was fine after benedryl injections, then the doctor put me on Bystolic my blood pressure went down and about 2 months I started having pressure in my chest and pains in my side and between my shoulder blades, had stress echo performed and everything checked perfect. The Dr. seemed to think it was acide relux and put me on protonix so while taking both medicines for about another 2 months I had pains again in my back and chest.. felt like a heart attack.. then I ran out of protonix and was still taking the Bystolic, and again I had those pains and it's always at night... Im begining to think the pains are from the bystolic.. Im going to the doctor soon to talk to him..Read More Read Less

I'm a Nurse. Have been having chest pain, which my doc feels is vasospasm. Switched me from Atenolol to Bystolic. First night no sleep. First morning woke up with pain in right thigh. Second day H/A, nausea, joint pain, muscle aches. Second night, no sleep, fever, shaking chills, severe GI upset(yes, it could have been a virus). Third day mood changes (anger and depression), lethargy, H/A turned into migraine. Fourth day severe joint pain, muscle aches, right flank pain, sore throat, cough, irregular pulse, SOB, migraine worse, nausea. Fifth day no H/A, but still have joint pain, muscle aches, withdrawn, lethargic, ready to fight at the drop of a hat. It ain't worth it. Going back to Atenolol (originally for migraines and PSVT up to 170 or greater). Three years ago, had to have a pacemaker due to sick sinus syndrome. So, I will just have to deal with vasospasm of heart vessels, as my Cardiologist says "Your coronaries are fine." He also said if I had any problems to switch back to Atenolol. Roger that! This medication has been very effective in controlling my BP 110/72, and has made my heart rate as steady as a rock. but I have noticed some Shortness of breath, sweating, sleep problems. It will not allow my heart rate to go above 110 while exercising and sometimes makes me feel a little lethargic. I have reduced my stress level and lost weight so I am wondering if my BP is lowering normally and that is why the side effects have increased. Will definitely discuss with my MD.
