I've been taking this for a little over a month now. My heart rate and blood pressure have both dropped greatly. Here's the downside, I have become very tired and sluggish and have been packing on the pounds like a bear preparing for winter.

I've been taking 5mg Bystolic for 10 months now for heart palpitations. I've always had low blood pressure. Seemed to work great the first few months. Now experiencing irregulari ties regularly. Assume the DR will want to increase dosage but the side effects are bothersome. Experiencing tiredness and depression hair loss and shoulder pain.

I was on this for 2 months(2.5mg.)and it made me dizzy and then started experiencing hair loss.Didn't know if the medication was causing it so I stopped taking it and no more hair loss. It lowered blood pressure but refused to keep taking it.

Many posts mention Bystolic being ineffective for depression and anxiety. I also found this to be true. For blood pressure and heart rate it is excellent. For anxiety/deppression the beta blockers BETAXOLOL, PROPRANOL and METOPROLOL are much more effective.

Before taking Bystolic in the morning and an alpha blocker in the evening, by doctor had me taking Coreg, which combines a beta and alpha blocker. Coreg was terrible. I couldn't sleep, I was spaced out all day, and became pretty deeply depressed. I noticed a change for the better within a couple days of switching to Bystolic and the evening alpha blocker. I'm clear-headed, sleeping reasonably well, and no longer in a pit of dispair... and my blood pressure is really good, to boot. I still get a little lethargic in the evenings. Still, I find it remarkable that two very similar meds can have such different side effects. Read More Read Less

I recently found out I have high blood pressure. This is one of the medicines that I was put on. My blood pressure did come down measurably. It seems to be under control but am still in the process of trying to find out the cause of the problem.

I started this medicine for anxiety and borderline high blood pressure. It has done an excellent job of controlling my bp and heartrate, yet it has made me extremely depressed. Will be stopping this medicine today.

I have been taking Bystolic and Diovan HCT for 5 days now and honestly, I feel worse than before. My doctor switched me to these because my BP was 200/98 and I was using Tekturna 300mg, but it was not working. I've had severe chest pains, headaches, body aches and now I'm having trouble with hemorrhoids, very badly (never had trouble before taking this medication). Are there others who have had or are having these symptoms as well? I have an appt to talk to my doctor again in a few days, but I want to make sure it's not something else contributing to these effects. If anyone else can help, I would greatly appreciate it.Read More Read Less

Dr. took me off Atenolol in favor of Bystolic. I was fine for a month. My energy returned, and my head wasn't "foggy" anymore. Now, five weeks in, I have chest discomfort, pains in my back (shoulder blade area), terrible acid reflux.. both of which keep me up all night. On top of that Bystolic is expensive, even with insurance.
