I've been taking this for a little over a month now. My heart rate and blood pressure have both dropped greatly. Here's the downside, I have become very tired and sluggish and have been packing on the pounds like a bear preparing for winter.

I started at 10ml. Used it for 5 weeks. Fatigued so bad late afternoon and headache every day. also muscle cramps in my legs. Dr. lowered it to 5ml. 2 weeks on this dose headaches gone still some muscle cramps. I have been hit with a debilitating anxiety each morning for a couple hours. I have noticed some hair falling out which concerns me. Blood pressure down low in afternoon, and exhausted from 2 till bedtime. No stomache problems with it easy to tolerate on my stomache, but I don't like the depressed tiredness in the afternoon and evening. I am concerned about withdrawel as my heart skips beats.Read More Read Less

I began taking Bystolic shortly after its FDA approval. It was touted in ads by Forest Labs, the manufacturer, as being "novel" and a "new generation beta blocker"-implying that the side effects typical of the beta blocker class of drugs would be less pronounced with Bystolic.I had been having side effects with the beta blocker,ToprolXL so I asked my doc if I could try it. A drug rep had apparently gotten to him already as my doc assured me that the Bystolic would be much better tolerated. He wrote me a new script for it. I have been on the drug now for almost two years. At first it worked rather well but as another reviewer has posted, I feel it might have the potential to become "toxic" after awhile. Side effects have slowly grown to include severe insomnia, occasional shortness of breath, depression, weight gain and recently and most annoying of all, tinnitus...a humming sound in my ears. Most troubling is that along with all these adverse side effects Bystolic also seems to lose its effectiveness as an anti-hypertensive after awhile. After about two years my blood pressure began to fluctuate, whereas initially Bystolic controlled it reasonably well. I switched back to Toprol XL and my blood pressure stabilized within a few days. Some of the side effects are easing. Unfortunately, the Toprol also has similar nasty side effects, but at least it does what it's supposed to do. I will also mention that the company that manufactures Bystolic was reprimanded and warned by the FDA back in August 28, 2008 for what the FDA considered misleading advertising. The language of their ads implied that Bystolic had a more tolerable side effect profile; however the FDA ordered them to cease making such claims. Like many of you I am SO fed up with the nasty side effects of the drugs available for those of us with hypertension. I also wish physicians would stop their tendency to dismiss our reports of adverse drug side effects. I feel they rely too heavily on the drug reps.Read More Read Less

First the doctor put me on Coreg which worked great but made me extremely tired. She switched me to Bystolic and I have a lot more energy now. As a college student, I need all the energy I can get!

Sonia - The manufacturer of this drug is Forest Pharmaceutical. Note: In regard to your insurance not covering this drug, have your doctor write a letter stating that you cannot tolerate the other beta blockers you were taking in the past, and you had a bad allergic reaction with several others. The company has no choice, unless they go against the doctors orders and risk a law suit. I agree, Bystolic is an excellent beta blocker and energy levels are definitely increased, compared to some other beta blockers. It is also excellent for inflammatory problems, such as high CRP levels, arthritis and stomach issues. I beleive Bystolic helped my colitis. I've had almost no symptoms in over 1 year. Sexual function has also improved in many ways, versus other medications I was taking. Good luck with the Insurance company. Read More Read Less

I have only taking the drug for 5 days and i think i started to get some side effects from it. I started to notice slight swelling around my eye lid. Itching here and there but no severe. Slight sore throat but not bad. But i got off of it right away. Though i still have the itching whice some told me would take up to a week or so till the Bystolic is out of my system. Would that be true?

My experience has been pretty positive but last week the FDA refused to approve Bystolic for treating heart failure patients. I guess this means anyone with heart failure shouldn't be taking this drug if other more effective and proven drugs are available.

I am a 65 year old male and have high blood pressure for over 20 years. I had NO symptoms and functioned very well. That is why hbp is called the silent killer. BYSTOLIC is a killer for sure. I advise you NOT to take this drug under any circumstances. I was on the drug for one year at 10 mg. I had nightmares right away from it. After 10 months, the balls of my feet swelled up and my toes became numb. I began to get dizzy and had to pull off the road when driving. I had a tightness in my chest that felt like a python was squeezing me to death. I was short of breath during conversations on the phone.I also had rectal bleeding with the bowel movements. This all started at the 10'th month or so. The dr said its all in my head and I demanded to get off it. He told me to take 5 mg for one week and then 2.5 for another week. After the third pill of 2.5 I felt like I was going to die and he was on vacation and nobody in the office would see me but a pa. I went to another dr and he said I would NOT have given you that drug but now that you were on it, we have to work around it. He put me back on 5 mg for a month and 2.5 for a month and put me on norvasc 5 mg during that weaning time. Now I am off Bystolic and have the Norvasc at 10 mg. I feel MUCH better. DO NOT TAKE BYSTOLIC UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Beta blockers are very dangerous from what I have learned and the gold standard is TOPROL or LOPRESSOR if you need a beta blocker. The Bystolic is a fraud and I urge you NOT to take it unless you want to come to deaths door.Read More Read Less

This is the worst pill I have ever taken for my high blood pressure. I was nauseated from the very start and have vomited on a regular basis since taking this pill. It did lower my blood pressure, but the nausea and vomiting is unacceptable.

While bystolic has been effective for my bp, I can not tolerate the insomnia any longer. I have never ever had trouble sleeping before. Also, experiencing swelling of my feet, ankles, and fingers.

This med worked very good in lowering my B/P. Having been recently told by my MD that my B/P is of a teenager's, I have endured tremedous suffering and pain. On a daily basis I go through a series of constant fatigue, hives/rashes, dizziness, flushing, INSOMMNIA, sweats and at times leg weakness or leg pains , including swelling from the knees to my ankles. I feel miserable and have no energy for anything. I push myself but it is only getting worse. Here's what I figured out since I have been on this med (approx 6-8 months). In the beginning it works really well with no notable side effects. However,as time goes on, the side effects begin to appear one at a time, becoming unbearable as time goes on. I beleive the manufacturing company purposely designed this med this way in order to get HBP suffers SOLD on its effectiveness and yet hiding the side effects that come on during theraputic use. I am now seeking a new Heart/ HBP Md that truely cares about his patients and not just what free golf outing or vacation he can get from the drug representative who convinces him to push POISON on to us patients. I am now suffering with ITP (lack of platelets) a blood disorder and I believe is as a result of this medication. Please use every precaution before and/or when using this Medication. If you are on it on get off it ASAP. This med can kill you.Read More Read Less
