I've been taking this for a little over a month now. My heart rate and blood pressure have both dropped greatly. Here's the downside, I have become very tired and sluggish and have been packing on the pounds like a bear preparing for winter.

I've been taking this medication for nearly 2 months and if anything, it's been a little TOO effective in reducing my BP. My pressure is 160/90 without nedication. With nedication, it drops down to 90/50 and my pulse is down to anywhere between 45 and 50. I personally think that's too low.

I had palpitations and I ended of having an ablation 3 months later I was put on Bystolic 5mg it has lowered my bp and my heart rate is usually in 50 to low 60's. i have been on this for 16months and I have had back pain, shoulder pain, indigestion, alot of swelling, fatigue, ringing of the ears , leg cramps and headaches. I am going to the doctor to get off of this drug even though it has reduced my bp the side effects are not worth it.

Have had great results with bp avg 123/78 down from avg 130's/80's with micardis. Both drugs taken with hctz and norvasc. At first very pleased (byvol) but had headaches, fatigue, waking up middle of night, heart palpitations, angina. With angina took 80mg asprin alleviated angina. Had athletic heart slow beat thus had heart cath procedure to check for blockages etc. Heart in perfect condition so suggested bystolic... badly wanted to come off of micardis which had been taking for years. Did'nt like how Micardis was making me feel so tried bystl. At first appeared like a miracle great bp see above. Now I am not so sure. I work out a lot and exp extreme pain in legs after regular 3 mile run. Never had those problems with Micardis. Fellow suffers I feel your pain; it's just so frustrating. I now will try reduction in dosage to see if I can improve side effects. Tried to take without Norvasc pressure went up 139/85+. If all else fails I may have to go back to Micardis which; apples to apples, was the lesser of the two evils in terms of side effects. I want to thank each and everyone for their comments. This forum is really helpful because it makes you realize you are not imagining things and emboldens us to challenge those that may doubt what we are experiencing. Please keep posting. Hopefully we will all reach the correct balance in bp and limited side effects. As promised I am following up from earlier post.Read More Read Less

I was on Toprol Er and was having a horrible time with it, palpitations, heart feeling like it was coming out of my chest and I couldn't get off of it without major problem-felt like I was dying-my cardiologist switched me to bystolic saying it was better and it wouldn't cause that and it was easier to get off of if I chose to get off of it. Well it has controlled my bp pretty well and no heart palpitations but I have gained like 20 lbs-my hands and feet and legs are swolen (and I take a diurectic-Lasix)--I am going to have to get off of it-but don't know where to go from here. I was on Toprol XL for several months, and went thru the extreme loss of energy, hair loss, and weight gain. My doctor did not believe any of these issues were caused by the meds ( another doctor that didn't read the side effects!) but he did change me to Bystolic a year ago. The hair loss stopped, energy went up a little, but the weight gain has been continual, sometimes 5-8 pounds in a week. I also have some "brain fog", and bouts of leg cramps. There has to be a drug out there that just does its job and none of this other awful side effects!Read More Read Less

I have been taking Bystolic for over a year. Dr. started me on 10mg. It was so much for me, so I cut it in half. After a few months still more side effects. Heart palpitations, trouble sleeping, lower back pain, some hair lose and thinning of hair. So I decided to cut the 5mg in half to 2.5mg. I should say my BP the first time I went to the Dr. was 200/110. It is now down to average 138/78. This is the lowest my BP has ever been in my life. My main side effect right now is what I think is something to do with my stomach. I get a very sharp pain on my right side about 4 inches to the right of my belly button, usually when I eat or drink anything. I was taking my pill right before going to bed. Now, I try to take it at least an hour before bed so it will go through my system a little and get out of my stomach. I think my main complaint about this medication would be the sudden waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep for hours. I sure hope and pray that the med is not damaging my other organs. I have had no headaches, no dizzyness and no tiredness.Read More Read Less

I STARTED TAKING THIS MED FOR MOD ELEVATED BP. WORKED WELL IN THE BEGINNING. THEN ABOUT 4-5 STARTED NOTICING A FEW HEART PALPATIONS MORE WHILE LYING DOWN. THEN PROGRESSIVILY ALL THE TIME. SYMPTOMS PROGRESSIVLY BECAME WORSE. PALPATIONS. FATIGUE, SOB ON EXERTION AND AT REST. GENERAL FATIGUE , WT GAIN 5LBS . UNABLE TO SLEEP AND LESS SEX DRIVE. TRIED TITRATING MED TO SEE IF I MY 10 MG DOSE DAILY WAS TO MUCH. SEEMED TO GET BETTER. CONTNUED ON 5 DAILY BP BECAME SLIGHTLY ELEVATED BUT WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS. GRADUALLY SYMPTOMS RETURNED NOT AS INTENSE BUT STILL UNCOMFORTABLE. WILL SEE MD FOR OTHER MED CHOICES.Read More Read Less

See my previous evals regarding swollen ear canals, vertigo, exploding head syndrome, and pounding heart. My latest symptom last night immediately after getting in bed: I take the pill at night and usually my heart starts to pound when its time to take it again-as it did last night. Last night a new side effect-as my heart pounded, I could literally hear the blood sloshing-it sounded exactly like the swish of the water in the washing machine! Bizarre!

The first 3 months was fine. Then I started noticing the small side effects was coming from the medicine. I have had regular indigestion, lower back pain, stomach discomfort, small vertigo spot on my arm,and arm and leg pain. I have chance to Norvasc 2.5mg and had my GI tract check. Just last week, my CT scan show a spot on my liver, and Im waiting on other tests result of my GI and blood work. I think it was the Bystolic (poison), that brought on these problems. Use with caution, the side effects can come at anytime, not the just first 30 days.Read More Read Less

My BP was 150/98 so I started working out everyday. Several weeks later, took my BP three times over a 2 week period and it was 139/78, 143/77, and 139/84..i'm thinking i'm doing alright getting my BP down naturally although the top number is still a little high, I'm told that it's the bottom one you really need to watch. Then i go to the Dr for something unrelated, they take my bp and it's 150/100 !1 WTF !! So they send me for an echo-cardiogram and discover I have LVH. They put me on 5mg daily of Bystolic. Three days later i take my bp and it's 123/78....perfect !! i have no side effects but i noticed when I work out now instead of my heartbeat being in the 150-160 range it never goes over 130. i guess the medication reduces the workload on the heart. It's only been a few days but right now i am very satisfied.Read More Read Less

Ive taken bystolic oral I feel it working okay but If I dont feel right I will go back to life w out drugs,if it keeps me from being my happy merry self than I can do with out it.remember its up to you,not your doctor, most of them are in it to push the med so it will sell on the market no matter how it makes the patient feel, use your own instinct and get 2nd or 3rd opinions if you must..Diane from california
