I've been taking this for a little over a month now. My heart rate and blood pressure have both dropped greatly. Here's the downside, I have become very tired and sluggish and have been packing on the pounds like a bear preparing for winter.

This Med has made me miserable and felt like I was going to have heart attack any minute. Took it just few days and shortness of breath began and steadily got worse! AFter 2 months I can barely walk across floor! Have stomach problems, starting to get muscle cramps, very sleepy all the time and gaining weight! This stuff is HORRID! Not worth trying. It did bring bp down but not worth the side effects.

It all makes sense now. The weight gain, tired, sexual problems, swelling, joint pain, that I already had, got worse. My doctor has me taking Bystolic along with Amlodipine Besylate, both 5mg. It worked great to lower my BP but my god I was a zombee. Exforge is what I was taking. It also helped with my BP, but my potasium was a little, but I now know why. I was consstipated all the time. I started taking something, a laxative and now my potasium is 4.5 perfect. I hope this helps someone, because this is no fun. Read More Read Less

I have finally had to give up this drug. As far as blood pressure reduction this drug was extremely effective. Many of the initial side effects:shortness of breath, angina (tightness in chest), palpitations, irregular heartbeat, dizzyness, able to overcome over time. However, could not get rid of the pain in my back, particularly first thing in the morning. Essentially had to crawl out of bed and take a few hours walking around until back pain subsided. Did not want to take another medication in order to alleviate back pain. Fatigue was still a big problem. Fatigue had subsided somewhat, but still a major concern. I have tried to be proactive regarding the back pain. To that end went to urologists to check prostrate. Enlarged prostrate etc, can cause similar symptoms. Prostrate was fine no problems there so can eliminate prostrate but still suspect Bystolic. I now, during a scheduled physical, will have a kidney work up etc to make sure nothing is going on. In a way I am disappointed to have to come off of Bystolic. Drug is really effective for BP control and I had hoped to come off of Norvasc and HCTZ and just have to use Bystolic. Dr. felt needed to take me off and has prescribed SECTRAL. I wish I was as fortunate as previous post...Way to go Lucy!Read More Read Less

heart rate and blood pressure shot up suddenly. My pounding heart was really scarring me. Apparently, this can happen after open heart surgery, a reaction. My heart rate and bp came way down within in a day of starting Bystolic but so did my energy level. I felt dizzy and fuzzy headed, weird g.i. problems and depression. I became very short of breath and my heart was pounding as bad as before starting. My doctor canceled my appointment and said he would see me in three months. After a week and a half I started reducing my 5mg dose by half then a quarter. Second day off completely and my chest hurt and I felt I could not breath. Third day off, a little better. This is a scary drug.Read More Read Less

Added to daily BP meds. After 6 months has painful gas, bloating & diarea. Also shortness of breath, interrupted sleep and all around tiredness and no pep. Stopped taking the 20MG. daily pill and symptoms went away in 48 hrs. DR. will try something else. Not a good med for me.

I have been taking bystolic for 5 years, started on 5mg increased to 10mg. I started on BP meds 15 years ago, 164/94. BP now: 164/80. Heartrate from 80 to 60. I've tried about everything. I have found that despite what they say, nothing really works or has terrible side effects. Now, if I stop BP goes wild. I wish I had never started on BP meds.

It hasnt brought my B.P. down- range between 135/75 to 180/99- to compensate for the headaches, joint pain & just overall bad feeling.

I have an anxiety disorder and lowering my pulse eases it. I feel better; in a bit of a mental daze sometimes, but the side effects are tolerable because the benefits are greater.

I am taking this med to treat WPW, to control atrial tachycardia. I am asking if this med might cause muscle aches similar to those experienced when taking statins.

I have reduced the dosage by half in consultation with my doctor. I was experiencing angina, thirst, flushing, headaches, palpitations, back pain, etc. So, cut the dose after bp dropped to 100/68. Did not feel quite right, bp (100/68) had angina etc so was willing to try reduction. Well, after reduction, bp staying at low 120/78. Not bad. The angina appears to have greatly improved. Overall, I am pleased with current results. Corrected concentrated urine by much greater water and gatorade increase. The only MAJOR problem I am having is the back pain. It's miserable. I am using the 80mg asprin and I think that should alleviate it (just started);however, must resolve this problem. Has anyone else found a solution for the backache? I know several posts discussed the symptom. So far apart from this problem very happy with my progress. Previously had stated complete frustration and felt like I needed to get off of med. One thing I can honestly say was I have never had a bp pill work so effectively in such a short time to dramatically improve my BP...overnight!! If only I can lick this back problem. I then hope to move onto (with doc's approval) not having to take norvasc and hztc in conjunction. I am having to take all three currently to maintain bp reading as above. Any advice greatly appreciated. Read More Read Less

I am not one who generally takes medication other than aspirin for an occasional headache, or prescribed medication after having dental work. Bystolic has been effective in lowering my blood pressure by at least 10 points.

I have only beeen on this medication for about a week. It has lowered my blood pressure from 165/100 to 135/85... BUT..... I have had the WORSE headaches imaginable. I was in the bed for 2 whole days, unable to eat, sleep or open my eyes. I have since stop taking them and the headaches have went away. Needless to say I WILL NOT be continuing this medication!!!
