Two weeks on Bystolic I developed a severe rash on face, jaw, neck, chest. Treated as Poison Oak because it is so common where I live. Four weeks in figured out that it was caused by the Bystolic - that was after two trips to Urgent Care and a steriod shot and a course of Prednizone. Am trying to flush my system with water and cut my nails so I don't bleed when I scratch!!

Bystolic is an effective treatment for hypertension, but its side effects make its use unpleasant. It makes me very tired. I try to take if after my other medications, later in the morning, after I exercise and do my usual routine. Sometimes this drug puts me on the nod. I have been using if for over 6 months.

After taking Toprol XL for less than 2 months, I changed doctors and asked to be put on a different med. Bystolic. The Toprol caused hair loss, extreme energy loss, joint and shoulder pain. The Bystolic stopped the hair loss, energy level came up noticeably, although not completely. The joint pain stopped also. There are however, side effects from the Bystolic, such as cold hands and feet when weather is cooler, possibly mild depression, and a startling continual weight gain! As one person on here mentioned, increased appetite. I seem to be hungry all the time! But feeling so much better otherwise than with that awful Toprol XL. I been taking this for a about month and has it pros and cons i will start with the pros it does a good job lowering bp and heart rate be fore meds i was 140 over 88 and now 100/60 usually at rest. i feel better but this drug dose make u have angina. and headaches and some mild fatiuge i also had alot of sweating when i frist started it. Im still not sure if it is for me or not. i will update next month

upset stomach, feet falling to sleep, head ache

Trying new meds. This one not a good match either. Tiredness somewhat, but major stomach trouble and upper stomach PAIN! It was better than the last at bringing down BP and Heartrate, but I'm not impressed either!

I took atenolol 25 mg for 26 years and my started to fall out, so my general practioner put me on bystolic 5mg and everything was fine for 3 months, then my cardiologist changed my bystolic to 10mg and 4 weeks later my hair started to fall out again, so I went back on bystolic 5mg for 3 weeks and my hair is still falling out

Been on bystolic for about 4 months and nearly killing me! Wrote before about all the bad effects, tired, headache,etc. Then found my psorisis has gotten way worse, then hair falling out to less then half! Dr. taking me off slowly and been to er twice in last week for palpitations, bradycardia, and pulse down to 41! Hurting all over so bad I can barely stand it and have another week before off this killing med! If the cure doesn't get you the getting off med will! Be very careful when stopping! I believe this medicine cause rapid hair loss.

Update to previous posts-my latest interesting ?side effect? is cold urticaria. I clutch a cold bottle of pop wedged against the flesh of my forearm as I go back to the office-total exposure 1-2minutes. 3 times left, 2 times right, forearm-only where the bottle made contact-itching, followed by many tiny bumps under the skin, followed by more intense itching, bumps surface/scab over/dry out and go away again.

Originally prescribed 10 mg, cut down to 5 mg. Very tired so I started taking it at night, but that hasn't helped. Was on it for about a month when back pain started. It is very bad in the morning. I have started taking Motrin to combat it. Diarrhea was very bad for about a month, then got a little better. Now after about 3 months, it's back and now I have severe lower abdominal pain, like I'm all blocked up, along with lower back pain and sometimes pain under my ribs. The side effects are terrible and I see my PCP in 2 days to try another one (this is my 3rd BP med). I will say that my BP was 180/110 prior to Bystolic, now at 117/78, pulse down from 120 to 78, so it does work, but the side effects are killing me.Read More Read Less

I am having trouble with very bad muscle weakness and weight gain. the weakness is primarily in my legs. I also have trouble with breathing when walking short distances. has anyone else experienced any of these problems

I began taking 5 mg of Bystolic in March 2011. I was diagnosed with Anxiety and Panic Attacks and slightly elevated blood pressure. The Bystolic does a great job of lowering my blood pressure so that I can manage my panic attacks. I do have to be careful and check my blood pressure twice daily because the Bystolic will lower my BP too low which makes me tired and dizzy especially when I get alot of exercise. I wish it came in a lower dose so I could take a 2.5mg dose daily with an extra one when I have a panic attack if needed. Mild Side effects that I have had are tiredness, dizziness and needing to make sure that I eat every 3-4hours. As I have lost weight and started exercising more I have had to check that my BP is not too low. The goal of course is to get off the medicine by adopting a healthier life style through diet, exercise, yoga and meditation. Seems to be working. Read More Read Less

Causes too much drowsiness. Easily fall sleep at inapproiate times. I believe I need a reduced dosage, minimal at 2.5 mg

also taking HCTZ for high BP, was given this drug for irregular beats (pvc's). It doesnt do much for the BP, but lessened the pvc's. Ran out once for a few days, pvc's worsened. Side effects have been muscle cramps, HOT FLASHES and severe sweating, mild indigestion.

So far this is the best med., for me. I was taking another for over 10 years and it was doing horrible things to me. My Cardio put me on Bystolic and within a week I felt like a new person for the better!

After being on Bystolic for a week and a half I started getting hot flashes and sweating everywhere 4 to 5 times daily. After 2 or 3 times of this happening I could hardly stand my own smell. On to try something else. Have tried 4 BP meds, all with side effects I could not live with.

extreme pain in my hip that has also gone to lower back.enough pain that it is hard to walk.bad pain in legs from knee down at night which makes it impossible to sleep

Extreme low blood pressure Slow heart beat Dizzy Tireness Feet always cold Feeling of asma / wheezing Could hear and feel my heartbeat all the time and had hard time sleeping be cause of hearing and feeling it. Felt like ‘valves’ or something weren’t working properly, not something I have felt before.
