I've been taking this for a little over a month now. My heart rate and blood pressure have both dropped greatly. Here's the downside, I have become very tired and sluggish and have been packing on the pounds like a bear preparing for winter.

Lisinopril was giving me extreme cold/flu symptoms after starting one month after taking it. Doctor prescribed Bystolic Oral to see if it would be effective and not have the side effects. Been on Bystolic for 2 weeks and no side effects yet. Will not be sure until 2 months of taking this drug.

Update on my recent review. Following my first review, I found the side effects kicking in. I learned that it can take a couple of weeks or so for it to happen. I became deathly tired after taking the med in the AM. Severe side effects such as swollen legs/feet/ankles/hands. Headaches, trouble breathing and bp went back up and palpitations returned. It actually became a nightmare. I called my cardio dr. and he removed me from bystolic and put me back on atenolol-Iwill prob have palpitations but within a week or so it should drop my bp down again and side effects should slowly dwindle. Going to have ablation after the holidays for the palps. I loved it at first- thought it was the real deal but side effects for me were detrimental.Read More Read Less

The side effects of this drug are unpleasant to say the least. My Dr told me that there weren't any side effects. I started noticeing stomach pains, have tingling in one foot and swollen ankle. My sleep has been disturbed. Can't remember the last time I had a full nights sleep. I wake up feeling funky and stranger but am ok once I am out of bed. I don't suffer much dizziness. I have expeienced problems with a burning mouth before but I believe this med has made it worse. I quit smoking cold turked 2 years and have experience weight gain but I believe the Bystolic has contributed to additional pounds. I can put up with theee side effects since my BP and all my labs were good but I don't think I like the sleep disturbances and thats why I feel so tired during the day and I would like a cure to my burning mouth. I went to an ENT and he tells me not much to do about this problem but am hoping if I come off this med it will help.Read More Read Less

Was on 4 other meds in the past 2 1/2 years and all had very bad side effects. Atenolol worked great but had swelling and a few minor side effects. They put me on Cardezim and after 4 days it bout did me in with side effects. Been on Bystolic for 4 weeks now. No side effects but noticed this week that I get a twinge of a palpiation ( I also have vent. tachycardia) BP is normal though. Makes me tired by days end however but for me- thats a good thing since sleeping has always been an issue.

I have been on Bystolic for over 2 years after having a terrible time on Toprol. Bystolic was a dream for 2 years and was very effective. Suddenly, I am having severe headaches, nausea, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. After having a wonderful 2 years I think I have to change meds now.

After being on Metoprolol, Atenolol, and Cardizem, this has been the answer to my side effects problems and has eliminated the occassional flutter/palp. in my heart while maintaining a good blood pressure finally after nearly 3 years.

Been taking Bystolic 5mg. for 2 years. B.P.seems to have elevated in past 6-8 months. Can't get thru the night w/o waking up,usually sleep 3-4 hours at a time per night Then trouble falling asleep again. Also fatigued. I'm very active. I run about 20-25 miles par week and weight train 2-3 a week. Now,I have been having bouts of depression the past 6 months.I'm going to monitor by BP and watch my diet until the First of the year. Then See my Doctor.

Today is Wednesday and I started this medication Monday afternoon. I had a cluster headache for over a week before I started this medication. I thought it was from a cold that I had (maybe an ear infection) because the headache was on the left side of my head and was an excruciating, throbbing pain that would not go away not matter what I took. I was taking Verapamil, very high dose, Extended Release, and my blood pressures got very high 150/100. I am only 33 yrs old, but it runs in my family. I am also a migraine sufferer, so the headache did not surprise me. My doctor put me on the Bystolic Monday afternoon and said I could take one right away since my bp was so high. The cluster headache went away within a day. I was taking pain meds for it too, but I took my blood pressure this morning and it was 109/80. I had to do a double-take! LOL! My bp has not been that low for at least two years! I could not believe it!!! I have been a little sleepy here and there, but it is midnight now, so I must not be doing too bad because I am a night person, but I also had a nap earlier, due to the sleepiness and I normally don't take naps. Maybe the high bp gave me more energy before??? So far, no side effects except for feeling a little more sleepy than usual, but I am VERY HAPPY that my blood pressure is now alot lower in such a short time. I will be sticking with this unless some drastic side effect pops up that I can't stand. But down almost 50 points in two days, that is remarkable to me. I feel so much better now. I am way too young for my blood pressure to get as high as it did!!!! This medication definitely got my blood pressure down! Read More Read Less

Within a week of taking this drug I began to have intense back spasms in my mid to lower right side of my back. I thought I had strained my back at the gym but figured out it was the drug.

only taken twice and has stopped my heart from skipping but I do not have high blood pressure at all. I notice this medicine is given for extreme high blood pressure and my doctor gave me samples of this medication even though I am also taking verapamil in the am and Bystolic in the pm I am wondering now why he would prescribe both medications when the precautions say do not take Bystolic if you are taking Veparamil.I do not believe Doctors ever read the adverse effects of the medications they prescribe. Maybe they make more from the drug companies than their patients.Read More Read Less

I've been on bystolic for about one year.Seemed to be doing great. My heart at rest would be anywhere from 52-58ppm.Lately I've been getting terrible hot flashes, night sweats.I walk around with clammy skin. Also getting stomach pains. After reading others experiences with this drug,I think it is time for me to see my Dr.Noticed that there are no side effects listed like this???

I have had high blood pressure that other meds didn't help. I have been taking this med a week now and my pressure had dropped to normal and so has my heart rate. So far, this med seems to work.
