I've been taking this for a little over a month now. My heart rate and blood pressure have both dropped greatly. Here's the downside, I have become very tired and sluggish and have been packing on the pounds like a bear preparing for winter.

I HATE that i ever started using a beta blocker. Yes, it did bring my bp down but the side effects are killing me! It leaves me feeling tired and listless. I don't feel like exercising but I've not lost any appetite so I've gained weight. I'm having to take 80 meq of potassium cl/day, just to keep my potassium level in the safe range. I tried to quit once and after 2 days I started to experience chest pains, so now I feel like I'm trapped into continuing a medication that's harmful to me...and I only take 2.5 mg/day. I HATE IT!!!!!!Read More Read Less

A year after being blessed to live after suffering a cerebrel brain hemorrhage my doctor prescribed Bystolic 5mg once per day to help me from getting upset easily. The dose was to strong. It made me feel like doing nothing and sluggish. Also made my legs retain water and swell, made all of my joints swell. I noticed that when I woke up in the morning and went to move my fingers all of the joints in my fingers would feel like they were stuck in place until I moved they and bend them for awhile.I looked up WebMD and read the reviews which gave me a lot of insight. Another side effect that I experienced was it blurred my close up vision. I was taking 5mg per day until I read the reviews about 12 months later. I took it upon myself to break my pills in half and take 2 1/2 mg per day and noticed some difference easing the side effects. I tried it for 5 more months and cut it all the way down to 1/4 th of a pill a day. The side effects are almost all gone since cutting the dose way down. My joints have no more problems,my legs are no longer swelled with water retention and my vision is clearing up. now that I'am weening myself off of Bystolic and I feel great all over my body and mind. It is a drug that you can not stop taking suddenly. You have to ease it from your body. I can say thank you WebMD for the reviews for people to read to help others learn about the effects of drugs prescribed by doctors. The reviews helped me and I hope my review will help others that are prescribed the drug Bystolic.Read More Read Less

I just started taking this medication. After the first night of taking, I immediately noticed that my palpations went away. I am sleeping better than usual but, am very sleepy the next day. I just found out that I cannot be on this medicine and continue my allergy immunotherapy shots, so my heart dr. has said I may vary my meds in order to still take the shots. So far, I am happy with my results. I have noticed that I do have headaches daily now and maybe a slight dizziness too.

I've had a Great experience with this drug. 5 years ago while working out I had an Vertebral Artery Dissection which led to a Stroke. I totally blew out my left Vertebral Artery. A Mind Blowing Injury- Due to being in Excellent shape at the time I'm still alive today. My Doctor suggested this drug mentioning it would work well with my active lifestyle. Since taking Bystolic I have maintained healthy Blood pressure readings.

I have been on this medication for well over a year now, every BP check has been 120/80. Besides a lower energy level my potassium level dropped and had to start taking potassium pills. Has anyone else on this med seen a drop in potassium level?

This medication did not lower my blood pressure. It raised my LDL, I had been taking it for a month and by blood pressure was 170/100 and at my doctors appointment it was 210/110. He had to give me a clonidine to lower ti.

Have been on Bystolic a little over one year. It controls my blood pressure, but the side effects will make you feel like you are dying or would be better off dead. It gives me constant sinus and chest congestion. My bronchial tubes are full of congestion, and I feel like I am drowning. This has been a constant problem since shortly after I began the drug. I have been to the ER twice with respiratory problems so bad I thought I was about to die. My doctor insists the Bystolic is not causing this. I have stopped taking the drug and gone back to my previous drug, Clonidine. It is an old drug with its own side effects, but I took it for over 20 years with few problems. My doctor tried to tell me that my asthma like symptoms probably mean I have congestive heart failure. I DO NOT. The doctor and pharmaceutical companies will kill us all. Read More Read Less

BP comes down when I stay onit, BP goes back up when I have to pay for a 90 day supply. It is not cheap, especially when purchased via low-grade p5rscription plans. Most physicians have $25 off coupons to use at your pharmacy.

This has been so affective that my Dr took me completely off of my other bp med. This alone keeps my bp at 130/80 however......it is hard for me to get use to the hard heart beats and slower beat rate. Doesn't hurt or painful but, its just different and not sure if I want to continue with it at this time.

I have been dealing with an extraordinary amount of stress and found that all of a sudden, my heart was behaving in ways it never has before. I stayed to my deadlines at work and took care of the families of family members who passed (7 in a 6 month period). Finally, I went to the doctor and blood pressure was high. She put me on Bystolic - 5 mg a day. I have a calmer beating heart...however when stressers are hit, things still are present, but less intense.

In the beginning I questioned my primary because of how I felt on bystolic. He said it wasn't side effects to bystolic. 2 ER trips later for what I thought was a heart attack. The second time the ER doctor said to stop taking the bystolic, not to take it again, and have my primary change meds. I discussed with the ER doctor that I noticed after taking bystolic, my bp would raise quickly (220/120 was the highest), painful hard throbbing blood feeling in my heart…I could hear my heart beat for a few minutes and have afterwards now, pain in the chest and throat, squeezing, I couldn’t breathe in easily. I complained of my esophagitis/throat not feeling right, later my throat had ongoing for a while - I had the worst esophageal spams! After an EKG and blood test in ER, no heart problem was detected. Once the bystolic kicked in and did what it should, the pain would diminish and my bp would go down but not where it should be. It took a missed day of the bp med to start feeling closer to myself. My primary apologized for the bystolic and changed my med. But the following appointment he had a change of mind again and said it cannot give these reactions. However, the ER doctor already said to stop the bystolic, and I needed a different BP med. Read More Read Less

I just started taking Bystolic three days ago. What should I look out for? I actually do not if it is effective or works for me.
