I've been taking this for a little over a month now. My heart rate and blood pressure have both dropped greatly. Here's the downside, I have become very tired and sluggish and have been packing on the pounds like a bear preparing for winter.

This is the third med my Doctor tried for my blood pressure. I started with 10 mg for two months then increase to 20 mg. It didn't control my bp but my heart rate was 35. Held to walls to stay upright. Doctor took me off cold turkey, had chest pains three weeks later and been short of breathe ever since. I didn't need this drug evidently.

I was put on this medication after a year of moderately high diastolic pressures with a sudden surge in BP to 200 /140. I felt immediate relief of at least three years of extreme fatigue. My BP dropped to normal for the first time in probably ten years. I had energy, felt alive again. I stopped putting on weight for no reason. I take 5 mg in the a.m. And 5 mg at night. No fatigue, no side effects. It's a little hard to get my heart rate in the top range when I'm working out, but stopped gaining weight and I can work out again! Been on it for more than 4 months - so far, so good...Read More Read Less

I was previously on a Atenolol(Beta Blocker) initially in 1995. Was on that med, x 3 years. Stopped due side effects,. libido, fatigue, could NOT enjoy jogging, Basketball and soccer refereeing games. placed on ACE inhibitor which has been doing find. BP was totally under control currently . Recent started Bystolic x 1 year, side effects lightheadedness/starting and trial off med. BPwhile on ACE was 110/68 range andstill on ACE inhibitor. h/o RBBB on EKG but have had this since 1995, no significant changes to EKG or BP reading. Med is expensivebut I pay no cost for it. I question use of this med. I have been asymptomatic since 1995.Read More Read Less

In July 2015 I was put on this med. . I started at 5mg but the med. lowered my heartbeat so my Dr. changed my dose to 2.5 mg at night . I've been nauseous, dizzy and I've had weight gain on this med .. I'm in the process of trying to get off this med. .

I have tried several different HBP meds and all produced side effects. However, the 2.5 mg I take of Bystolic has lowered my BP and kept it pretty regular w/o any side effects. It has lowered my pulse to around 65, but overall, I have been happy with this drug. I do wish they would make it cheaper though.

I started on 5mg about 5 yrs ago Went to 10mg 2yrs ago. Have had no side effects at all! But my bp sometimes spikes to 140/85. This will lower your pulse rate. Mine ran 80/85 but now 65/70.

After ER visit for HPB 200/104 Dr. put me on Bystolic and HCTZ. Has not controlled my BP. It fluctuates from 176/96 to 116/68 and pulse is from 50 to 40. My feet and legs are not swelling but I have cramps in my feet and knees at night and horrible nightmares. I am also experiencing gas pains in lower abdomen daily. Constantly dizzy and tired. Got to find something else this can't continue.

Cardiologist prescribed to reduce white coat high blood pressure even though BP in normal at home. 1 hour after taking my BP rose to 186/108. Dr. said no relation to drug, get that, thanks DR. Quit that real fast. Be sure to monitor your BP after taking drug in case it works in reverse.

I was prescribed Bystolic 2.5 mg for PVC's. I have only been taking it for 2 weeks. The first few days I had a headache after taking it but that side effect has gone away. If I take it at night, I feel groggy in the morning, getting 8 hrs, so I think I'll go back to taking it in the a.m. As far as the PVC's, it has lessened the feeling of them, although sometimes I still get the occasional hard beat, but only like 5-10 per day. I will see how it goes closer to my period, b/c that's when the real PVC's rear their ugliness. I will post again in 1 month and let you know how it goes. My Dr. said I could up the dose to 5mg if the 2.5 isn't working. I like to take it slow, so I will stick w/ 2.5 for now, unless I have an unbearable day/night w/ PVC's. Keeping my fingers crossed this works. I will say this though, when I took Metoprolol only 25 mg, I felt like a zombie, even fell down and I only took it 2 days. Bystolic I can't even tell I'm on it, w/ the exception of the grogginess in the a.m., but that wears off after a shower. will post again...Read More Read Less

I've been taking the drug for approx. 5 yrs. The only side effects I've gotten from it are occasional dizzy spells and foot cramps. I take mine at night because I think it makes me a little drowsy.

Some of the people who are leaving feedback must be the types that will find anything wrong with anything! I have taken this drug for quite some time -- as with anything, you need to stick with it a while to get its full benefit. I have always had high BP. At 34 years old, I was diagnosed with acute hypogonadism, and I had to take eight pumps of the older version of Androgel, which is the highest dose available. My normal bp medicine (hctz and licinopril) KILLED my sex drive and made it EXTREMELY difficult to keep a hard erection through to climax, and I had to take Viagra to get there. After taking Bystolic for two to three weeks, it was like a magic cure. I had erections again like I had when I was in my early 20s. I am a HUGE believer in this drug, and one needs to stick with it to get the full benefit. I did not experience with weight gain nor the sluggish feeling others on here blamed on Bystolic! I can't wait for a generic form to come out, as it is quite expensive at the moment. Luckily, I have a caring doctor, and I am surviving on Bystolic samples.Read More Read Less

I have been taking Bystolic 10 mg every morning for the past three to four years for hypertension without bothersome side effects. The medication maintained my blood pressure pretty well even during a death of a close family member. The only issue I have is the cost of the medication through my prescription insurance but will continue taking it because it works and doesn't have any noticeable side effects.

I have been taking Bystolic for about 4 years now. It has worked very well for me. I have tried several other bp medications, all of which had terrible side effects... terrifying nightmares, extreme tiredness, chest pain, just to name a few. All of that has completely stopped. My blood pressure stays around 120/80 give or take.

I was put on 20 mg after stroke. Keeps the bp down well, but have extreme dizziness. Tingling began early on, but blamed it on stroke. Turned to burning and stinging. Dizziness Weaning down 5mg per week. Now at 5mg? day. Let bp stabilize as other remedies catch up. Maybe I can get off this bad drug in another week or so. I guess HCTZ and herbal supplements take time to take up the slack left from beta blockers.
