My endocrinologist prescribed Symlin for me shortly after it came on the market. She said she believed I was a good candidate for it; that was an understatement. Symlin is a game changer for over weight diabetics! I’ve been a type 1 diabetic for 25 years and on insulin the whole time. No matter how hard I tried (even have a gastric bypass) I could not lose weight. At one point I had gotten up to 465 pounds. I started taking Symlin close to a year ago and my weight and diabetes have taken a complete turn around. I’ve lost 174 pounds since and I’m only 40 pounds away from my goal. I no longer need fast acting insulin, and my A1C is 4.8. I would recommend this medication to anyone that will listen. ??????Read More Read Less

I started with Lantus solostar with 70 units morning and Evening. It was not controlling the onset of Diabetes since I was allergic to Metformin (since it contained Sulfa) They added Humalog Kwikpen for Rapid during meals all it did was to add more weight to my body and more trouble with not able to control. Dr. added Symlin 60 for one month 2 times a day and increased it to Symlin 120 2 times a day this controlled my weight from increasing. I was happy I am maintaining my weight and lost some. I moved from one state to another the Doctors decided to make me remove the Symlin 120 stating it is only used for type 1 diabetics not for type 2 was their argument. I stopped gained weight within 6 months period and was having some breathing trouble. Again moved 400 miles away. I found the best Doctor in CA and she is so good and put me on Symlin 60 and the control of BS is enormous plus my weight already is starting to come down. Hurrah for the Amylin Hormone which is making it all work Thanks to the manufacturers of Symlin.Read More Read Less

Blood sugar level was nearly out of control. Symlin plus insulin has brought it way down and is completely under control now. Most effective combination I've tried in 9 years.

Love the Symlin medication. HATE THE PEN DELIVERY SYSTEM WE ARE FORCED TO UTILIZE IN ORDER TO CONTINUE TO USE SYMLIN. Bring back the Symlin vial.... PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE REVIEW. I am one of the original members of the DCCT(Diabetes Control and Complications Trial), as well as one of the original members of the on-going EDIC Study. I am one of the original test participants / patients to utilize Symlin as part of my diabetes managements. Symlin was originally given by injection from a vial and my results were fantastic, great, dependable and predicable. I originally lost 45 pounds and enjoyed a fantastic increase in my blood sugar control as a result of using Symlin injected from a vial. I was very pleased. However, then came the Corporate decision to cease producing Symlin in vial form and go to a inject-able pen delivery system and change/modify the Symlin strength/dosage concentration. In my opinion, as well as other patients and doctors, it is the biggest mistake that could have been made. A decision that as far as we can tell was made with little or no input from doctors or patients involved in the daily use of Symlin as part of Diabetes management. I find the current pen delivery system inconsistent, not dependable and difficult to use. Effectiveness rating was 5, now 3. Ease of use rating was 5, now 3. Satisfaction rating was 5, now 3. Corporate decision rating -5. AGAIN, BRING BACK THE SYMLIN VILE AND LET US, THE PATIENTS AND THE DOCTORS MAKE THE DECISION WHICH DELIVERY SYSTEM WORKS BEST FOR US.Read More Read Less

Very little effect on B/S readings. Amylin Pharm only supplies to Pharmacies in boxes of 2 pens. Pharmacies won't break a box/dispense required 3 pens as ordered by pt's Dr.,so pt must do without or pay full exhorbitant cost (almost $300) for the add. required meds per month. No effect on weight loss. Amylin Pharmecuticals seems to be the only one benefitting from this expensive "fake" drug.

I use an insulin pump and have had diabetes for 25 years. This is difficult to get used to and requires a lot of blood sugar monitoring, and frequent insulin and amylin adjustments. I would not recommend this for inexperienced people with diabetes unless they have close contact with their physician and monitor their blood sugars VERY closely. Always have fast acting sugars on hand! There are also a lot of useful tips: take every day, if you skip a dose nausea comes back! Change needle tips frequently or it hurts! Measure carbs exactly and if on the pump use your delayed insulin dosage option if you get low then high. Make sure to stay in close contact with your physician and that he/she has a lot of experience with patient's on amylin/symlin. Read More Read Less

This med has made a world of difference in my relationship with food and with my ability to control my type 1 diabetes. For the first time, I understood what they meant by excessive hunger---because now I simply feel less hunger and feel full faster. I lost the 10% of my body weight as she predicted, and it has stayed off. My use of short acting insulin declined. It is no harder to administer than insulin and I think it is a miracle drug. I have become very wary of adding drugs to a regimen, but this one does everything I was told it might do.Read More Read Less

When used three times daily as directed by my physician I had extremely low and dangerous blood sugars. I have since began to use only with my evening meal and have noticed a huge difference in my blood sugars during the day. They are significantly lower overall and the current dosage (35 units before dinner) is not cause the low blood sugars I had experienced initially.
