Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

My nine year old son is on Day 4 of a 30mg dose after being on 10mg of Medadate for 3 years. I can't belive the difference so far. I actually had a nice time doing homework with him last night which for anyone that has ever done homework with a ADHD child knows what a remarkable difference that is. I even notice his handwriting is neater. His teachers have also noticed and his behavior has matured overnight. There are downsides also, he is not hungry all day so what I have been trying to do is give him big breakfast and right before he goes to bed I let him bring a whole bunch of food with him in his room to munch out on. I am hoping over time this side effect will decrease. I also noticed he was shaking a little in the afternoon but he just needed food. I gave him muffins and ginger ale and it went right away. I will update again in a few months. Read More Read Less

My female 5yr old has been on this med 4 days. Get this: Both her teachers, Mom and Dad are amazed at 1.) how quickly and 2.) effectively the medication has been. While anyone would hate to lable and medicate a child this age is understandable. However, after all the testing the adults completed and Dr.'s single visit with her, we were "happy" to have a diagnosis! It is something tangible and that can be assisted (and the word here, "assisted" is key - not to be confused with "cured") with medication (remember it was only last week we were diagnosed). The down side emotionally for us is that assureadly we have been too reprimanding for impulses she could not controle, and the fact that she may be on this or similar meds for potentionally a very long while. We administer in a teaspoon of apple sauce. Her immediate ability to stay on task, stay focused, stay in her seat, is amazing. Our plan is not to administer on the weekends, for once in a while, we miss a little extra craziness around the house!Read More Read Less

My daughter is 11 and has been on Vyvanse for a month now. Not only is she doing better in school again, but she is able to sit and read a book and enjoy it again. She is so easy to get up in the morning now whereas before she didn't want to get up for anything. I am so happy that the doctor prescribed vyvanse for her.

I am a 41 year old married mother of 2. I was on Adderall XR 100mg along with Prozac (fluoxetine) 100 mg per day. The Adderall went to work right away, but I always had the jitters, dry mouth etc., I had an appointment with my doctor and had told him that I had been getting a lot of anxiety especially when I was ready to go to bed. Tired but unable to sleep because of restlessness, nervousness etc. I was at a loss, I am so glad that I mentioned this to my Doctor. He said that I should really benefit from Vyvanse, at 70 mg I feel so much better now that I am on Vyvanse. It truely makes me feel "normal". I am really glad that I am not having the mood swings, dry mouth, nervousness like I was with Adderall XR.Read More Read Less

I started taking Vyvanse a month ago and I have mixed emotions. While I am able to concentrate and focus a lot better, the side effects are wearing me down. After 5 hours I am very tired; I have headaches; dry mouth; and extreme irritability. Worst of all I have insomnia. It is a horrible feeling to be extremely tired and not able to fall asleep. My dosage is 50mg so I could only imagine the effects of a higher dosage. Parents and adults proceed with caution.

My 12 year old son started taking this last month. It has been wonderful. I did not tell his teachers because they said he didn't have a problem, but he could not finish his work or remember when tests ets were. I received compliments on the changes in behavior. They said he finally came out of his shell and they can't believe the difference. He says he feeels better because he can actually pay attention now. It has been amazing. He has been on everything in the past but has been off meds for two years. I am very pleased. Read More Read Less

My son has been taking it for five days, and we noticed a difference immediately. He is able to complete homework on his own, follow directions, wait his turn during conversations, complete his "To Do" list, and he is able to focus in class. His friends noticed a difference (i.e., the silliness and immaturity has been reduced) as well as his teachers (i.e., able to complete assignments, less chatty, etc.). My son reluctantly admits that he is "super focused" and has noticed that his mind is not racing. He states that his mouth is dry and he his appetite is suppressed. At sixteen, he eats any way. So far, this has been working for us.Read More Read Less

My son was on this medicine for a whole three days. He had the side effects of, hearing noises, could not sleep, did not eat, wanted peace and quiet, said it felt like his heart was pounding throughout his whole body. His teacher said he had a huge improvement in his school but the downside was he was like a ZOMBIE. I am urging parents to please not put their kids on this drug.

I've been on Vyvanse 70mg for 3 days now, it works great for the first 5 hours, but then after that I don't feel the same way. I fell certain side effects (headaches/dry mouth/lack of appetite). I don't know if it's because its only been 3 days, but it doesn't last me 12 hrs.

My 7yr. old daughter has taken this for a few months and she has turned into a mean and anxious person. She complains of "feeling funny" and her heart will race and pound out of her chest. She breathes funny too, taking deep breaths all the time. Her grades are great but she's alienated the few friens she had. IT's not worth it!

I've been on Vyvanse for the past 5 months. All I can say is that it although "everything seems to work", Vyvanse works better for me. Life-changing. I can tell a difference in my everyday life such as: doing tasks, work, reading. There is do sudden "fall" that I have when the medication wears off either! I can multi-task. And although I am an adult, and work for a living, I can imagine how it would effect children at school and at home. I just want to be normal and live a normal life without ADHD getting in the way. I think Vyvanse is helping me accomplish that. I started at 30 mg, and ended up at 50 mg. I noticed a little appetite suppression, but it went away after a little over a week. It wasn't that I couldn't eat, I just didn't feel like I had to. But again, that went away. I have mild anxiety at times and no longer do I feel the effects of that. The medication really does last 12 hours. I know that no one medication can be the right fit for every person, for me Vyvanse works great. Read More Read Less

I am a nurse with a 6 year old daughter with ADHD. We recently started her on Vyvanse at 30mg a day. On the first day I gave it to her at 7:30 in the a.m. even as early as 2 hours later I could tell a difference in her. She listened to what we told her and was able to sit still! She did complain of belly pain quite a bit but said that root beer helped. So root beer it was. She did not eat much that day and she talked excessively much more that usual. She was great during that whole day but she was still awake at 12 midnight. She finally fell asleep at 3 a.m. and slept until 7:30. It worked so well that I didn't want to stop it but was worried about the side effects. What I did next is not recommended by Shire the company but I checked with her Dr. and pharmacist and they thought this would be fine. I opened the capsule and guesstimated at half of the dose. Which is hard to do because the inside contents are a powdery substance. I mixed half of the powder into some yogurt and gave it to her. The side effects have since gone away and she's only been taking it for 5 days. The teachers say she is a whole different child! She was able to sit still and write 1 and 1/2 pages in her journal. She was proud of that and so was I! Don't give up, give the medicine time and have patience!Read More Read Less

Was on Ritalin when I was a kid and helped me in school. Over time I just quit taking. A year ago was putted on 20 mg Adderall XR. This month went to doctor's office for refill and handed me a script for Vyvanse 70 mg. After a few days adjusting I'm pleased with how it works. Biggest thing to adjust to was how long it took to wear off and the decreased appetite. Other than that the benefits outweigh not treating my ADHD.

My daughter is 12yrs old. Takes 15 mg a day. She is diagnosed with ADHD & Autism. Has taken Vyvanse for 5.5 weeks. She has lost 7 lbs. and is now 54 lbs. She does seem more focused and takes directions much better. She was a free spirit that enjoyed life to the fullest and try anything. Now she is angry, constantly re-arranges things, and will go through times of non-stop talking. She shows anxiety and is less willing to participate in fun activities she use to enjoy.
