Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I have an 8 year old daughter with ADHD within the first week of putting her on this medicine she was very moody and emotional and physically attacked her cousin that is a year older. It was hard to calm her down. She had frequent emotional outbursts on this medicine there was no change at all in her focus. since we have tried vyvanse and concerta which are both stimulants, that did not work for her we are now trying a low low dose of Tenex which is a blood pressure medication and if this does not work we will try non-stimulants like the straterra.Read More Read Less

I have been on Vyvanse for over a month at 40 MG. I had been on Adderall prior. Vyvanse does not work as well. Cannot focus, extreme hair loss, and having tics. When I was taking Adderall, focus was better and no tics, concentration for reading was much better and no hair loss. It seems to me that Pharmaceutical Companies want to push out Adderall and replace it with Vyvanse. I am skeptical of Vyvanse. I am requesting a change of medication.

My son was falling behind in class because could not focus. Within 2 weeks he had caught back up and improved 100%. I recommend talking to ur physician instead of giving a child the hard stuff they put them on. It works wonders!

I'm 47. I've had ADHD all my life but only realized the impact it's had on my life seeing my children go thought it. Ritalin and Adderal both had a positive impact, but Vyvanse helps me focus much more. If I'd had something like this 40 years ago, who knows where my life and career would be now. It's saved my life, my marriage and my career. I have an issue with a facial tic when I am deeply engrossed with something. It's more of a grimace. But you know, my life is much more focused. I am even keel. I handle over stimulated environments with ease now. I wish I didn't feel it was too late to go back to school again.Read More Read Less

Started my 7 yr old on Vyvanse and I liked the result. He was still very much himself but just more calm and he executed tasks much easier. However, as much as I liked his reaction to this medicine, he still experienced side effects including facial tics, muscle spasms, and blurred vision. We're going to try Focalin next. Hopefully it works with minimal side effects.

This medication has given me my life back. I'm happier, more focused, complete projects, and retain information quicker. I decided to stop going to school after I received my bachelors degree but now being on this medication, it has given me hope and I am now in graduate school and completing assignments with ease.

Vyvance brought out mood swings / anger outbursts in my 12 year old daughter who has NLVD. We took her off Vyvance, and the mood swings /anger issues were gone, but now she can not focus. We can not find anything that works. We have tried Focalin, Ritalin, Concerta....I just hate to have to do all of this experimentation. She is now 16 and we still have had zero luck. We are concerned for her not bring able to hold down a job for fear she can not concentrate to follow or understand directions. She does decent in school, but because we pay extra for a special teacher to help her. So heartbreaking. Read More Read Less

I have been taking Vyvanse for bipolar depression, SAD along with ADD for about four years. The first year was difficult as I had to find a dosing regiment that would work for me along with other meds. I would experience a crash that included moderate irritability after 6-8 hours but found that by adding 75mg of Wellbutrin, the crashes were minimized. I also broke the dosages into 2-3 times a day and would vary the dose according to my needs. I take from 30-70mg. During SAD or depressions, I take the high end. Generally I average 50mg. Summers I can drop as low as 30 and skip a few days but it does help with my focus. I found that skipping more than 1-2 days made for the return of crashes. This medication like most, takes time, a doctor who is willing to work with you, and you're own willingness to figure out a dosing that maximizes the benefits. This medication has kept my mind less cluttered and more focused, kept me from spending the winters totally in bed, and kept me out of hospitals for the past four years. Vyvanse gave up on a research trial for treating depression but I believe they just didn't ask enough questions of those of us who have been successful so that the trial could be set up with the right variables. I started on Vyvanse about 1 1/2 ago and my life has changed mostly for the better. I am 39 and have always struggled with focus. I started on 30mg and moved up progressively to 40mg. I am able to focus on one thing at a time, complete tasks and be more mindful to what I say to people. The side affects for me are mostly the sleep issue at night. I absolutely must take my dose before 8am or I do not sleep well. I did find that Vitamin C lessens the affect so I always take a small glass of Emergen-C before bed and sleep fine. I don't think this drug is good for depression or people with bi-polar disease but works well for ADD/ADHD. Another side affect is that you get dry mouth and water doesn't taste great. You will have to force it down. It has changed m life.Read More Read Less

I had been on medication like this since 5th grade. I am now 21 years old, i've tried alot of different medications. My freshman year of high school i was prescribed vyvanse 60mg, the first time i took it i was up for 2 days straight. My doctor then gave me a lower dosage of 25mg, and i still had trouble sleeping, VERY BAD mood swings and irritability. I never had an appetite and always felt anxious like something was always going to happen. Did it help my school work? YES. But in my opinion the side effects aren't worth the grades. I have taken this drug for a couple years. It worked great in the beginning but it quickly tumbled down and I was amazed at the ridiculous amounts of health problems that came along with it. I thought I was just being a hypochondriac but I really had all these symptoms. I have turned into a recluse, everybody hates me now because I'm so antisocial, and it's only because I'm in so much pain all the time and I feel like I am constantly working to fight off or balance the Vyvanse so I don't ruin other peoples day with my constant complaining. It definitely helps me focus though, but sometimes it's a little dangerous as I can focus on the wrong things, for a very long time to the point where I drive myself insane with anxiety. When I don't take it I have explosive anger, and I'm really doubting what this stuff should really be used for. Because to me it just seems like a gateway to the medication community. I would rather not take it but I feel as if the effects are irreversible and the closest I will ever be to myself again is in the first four hours of taking the vyvanse. You have to time your intake of it strategically. It is very dangerous. It's much better to have a notebook where you keep track of the days and times that you took the medicine, because one tiny problem can really throw everything off. I also learned that shire puts some sketchy things in it to make the production process go more smoothly and the consumer pays the price with more health effects. I'm going to be honest here. Vyvanse is poison. Read More Read Less
