Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

My 11 year-old son has been on just about every drug for ADHD available since he was 6. Vyvanse has been a miracle for us. Others had so many major side effects that he wasn't able to function socially. The only side affect that he is experiencing now is a loss of appetite. We counter this by letting him eat as much as he wants in the evenings until bed time and supplementing him with Ensure. The benefits that we have experienced in school and socially far out weigh his loss of appetite.

My daughter has been on this since September. For the first time since I can remember, she's made the honor roll 2 quarters in a row! She noticed a difference in being able to pay better attention in class ,and her teachers report improvement too (and her grades are way up)! She has some problems with loss of appetite (almost none at lunch) but eats a modest breakfast and well for supper. She has actually noticed that she sleeps better when she takes the medicine as opposed to when she doesn't. We love Vyvanse! She is very good at remembering to take her medicine every morning and "freaks out" if we leave and she's forgotten it. After years of telling her teachers something was wrong with her, we finally have our answer.Read More Read Less

I have taken 30 mg for 7 days and found that I was much more alert and motivated. I began 50 mg and I seem much more tired. Not sure if 50 mg is too much, or, if effectiveness has diminished.

It worked immdiately for me and helped me focus on what task I was doing. I rd thse rvws and understood wht I was actually reading w/o forgetting it a minute later. Th decrease in appt is gr8 when ur over wt! I go to work tomorrow so let's see how tht goes (tht is in 3 hrs)! My son is on Straterra and I might have him try it as well. Has anyone had a problem with taking a sleep aid? I'm afraid to but will ask my dr when I see him again. I need sleep! I do thank him for the choice.Read More Read Less

My 11 year old son started a 30 day med trial of Vyvanse after a year on Adderal XR (even with a noon booster of regular Adderal, it just wasn't lasting through homework time). YIKES...we only made it to day 4 before we stopped the vyvanse. He has a serious sleep disturbance the first 3 nights, and began having significant mood swings by day 4 (very out of character for him), and reported feeling dizzy and scattered. By the afternoon of day 4, he crashed, sleeping for almost 18 hours! We are back on the Adderal XR, and talking to his psychaitrist about other possible meds (Focalin or Strattera) to try...after a nice long recovery time! Read More Read Less

I have taken this medicine for 2 weeks, after taking adderall XR and Focalin XR before taking Vyvanse. Previously, Focalin XR 20mg and Adderall XR 30mg gave me unwelcome personality changes. I would also recieve mood swings form the medicine. So i tried Vyvanse 50mg, but to no avail. For now, i have to keep taking it in order for me to behave and work better during class. But please, if you are a parent of a child who has ADHD, do not medicate them. These unwelcome mood swings and personality changes has been torture. Please look for other ways to treat ADHD, because unwelcome personality and mood changes is like the worst thing i have experienced in my life. I believe if i practice focusing skills, and learn how to control my impulses through meditation and deep though, then i will be able to over come my ADHD.the dry mouth from this drug is awful also, i get the worst breath!Read More Read Less

As a nurse i have been taking vyvanse for almost a year now and have seen so many improvements in myself, i used several other medications, the largest drawback of this medication in the dry, dry mouth. WOW. But it does not have highs and lows, like others have. I actually feel in control now compaired to other medications.

A Nurse’s Personal Experience: I've been taking Vyvanse for the last month, prior to that I was on Effexor XR. Effexor gave me too much in the morning & then tapered off to no effect around 3pm. Vyvanse has no noticeable ups or downs for me. I don't get jittery at all & I think that my anxiety has actually decreased since I stopped the effexor. When my vyvanse wears off about 12 hrs later, I immediately go back to "fluffy mode": I am unable to remember a question from 2 mins prior, walk around aimlessly since I can't remember what I was doing, unable to hold a conversation & etc. No change in my sleeping related to the vyvanse, however, I just started an OTC med "sleepfast" that works well for me. (Benadryl & "sleep MD" were both ineffective). I don't know what my BP is now, but I do worry about the high addiction rate. No matter what, I have to stay on some medication, just simply to be able to function daily. I am successfully taking lamictal for aggression r/t Bi-polar, thus I have no idea about aggression as a side effect of the vyvanse. I've heard folks say that vyvanse is just a similar medication created by the same people that also make an ADHD med that will soon lose it's patent & they just don't want to lose money (duh). This pharmaceutical company obviously knows what works: vyvanse may be in the same category as the earlier drug, but I have found that it is more effective, has a much smoother release into my system & does not antagonize my bi-polar symptoms. Something that often helps: Before your doctors appointment: Write all of your concerns & questions on paper & take it with you. Most doctors only have 15 mins to see & diagnose a patient. This will make your time with him more effective: you won't forget anything & you won't get the "rushed" feeling of being hustled out in time for his next appointment. Having mental health problems are the pits, I'm just grateful that there's now better living through better chemistry!Read More Read Less

I was not happy with this medication. I did not feel I had the control and concentration I needed. I also had a horrible taste in my mouth from it, along with the worst dry mouth!

I am 57 yo and have just been diagnosed. I always thought everyone's mind ran like mine...this Vyvanse has been a real eye-opener. I find I can think thru a complete thought without struggling, short term memory has improved, and the loss of appitite is a blessing in disguise. The majority of my thouhgts have slowed down enough to be able to speak of them.My old energy level is back, but I can accomplish several tasks without being so scattered. It's only been 3 days, but I feel grounded for the first time. I hope sleep will come a little easier in the near future.Overall, this has been life changing.Read More Read Less

1. I don't think that this prescription has been that effective for me. I've been taking it for about 3 months now (but progressively increasing my dosage each month)and i still don't really feel the effects of it. I had previously taken the generic adderall 20mg and it was very effective. i found my self to be able to concentrate a lot better than i have been able to on vyvanse. 2.this drug is an easy drug to use and to take orally, but because this drug is relatively new it is very hard to find at pharmacies. only one pharmacy around where i live actually carries it, all the others either don't have it or would have to order it if i tried to get it from them. 3. because of the above, mainly #1, I am not too satisfied with vyvanse. i am still currently raising my dosage, and maybe when i finally get it right it might be better. but for now, i think what ive take before is better than this. sorryRead More Read Less

Vyvanse use is prescribed due to constant tiredness from MS. Not a 100% cure for my exhaustion/sleepiness, but it helps.

I was put on Vyvanse 30mg a day. I was not able to sleep the first couple of days; but this is a WONDER drug for me. I always wondered why I kept losing jobs never being able to stay on task. My Dr. said this was due to ADD, so I am loving life now. It works! I never had been put on a ADD drug before, so far I can only say I stay on task and I have a fantastic job and my Employers love the job I do. I also take 60mg of cybalta a day and I take xanax 1 time a day, sometimes I take more :( trying not to do that; but I deal with the public and I do not want to be shakey. Does anyone else take the cocktail of drugs I described?Read More Read Less
