Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

My 12 y/o son took concerta 2 yrs ago with side effects of loss of appitite no sleeping and no growth for 1.5 years. We have been struggling for 2 years with trying natural Meds. They would work for about 1 months anf then nothing. We tried behavioral, no real help there. Diet was one we wouldn't try because our son is the worst picky eater ever. He has been getting by in school with d's and a few c's for the last 2 years. This year it has been f's and d's.And every teacher called many times to say he's not focusing. (so much for his 504 plan) He begged to try the meds again. Our Dr. recomended Vyvanse. So today was the first day. His stomache was hurting all day and he had no appetite and he was alittle light headed. But...his teachers called to say how great he did today and that he really focused and he was so proud of himself! (my son is NEVER proud of himself)I am really hoping the side effectgs wear off because this is truly a great medication so far. I really appriciate everyone's reviews, I will look of for the more serious side effects. God bless you and good luck with your ADD/ADHD. Read More Read Less

I am 17 years old,and have been taking this medicine for about 2 months for ADD. Overall its helped me focus, stay organized and on task 10 times better than my previous medicine (focalin). The only side effect I have been expierencing on this medicine is a major loss of apetite and I have been commented on my weight loss. However, these side effects are gradually disappearing and I have a little more of an apetite each day. I have tried tons of other ADD medications and this one has has treated my ADD the Best! I have been able to retain info easier and my grades have improved. Read More Read Less

This drug is not for adults in any way at all. I am a recovering drug addict that has no problem taking mthylphenidate(ritalin) or (Daytrana) I took one of these and it takes two hours to start working. I was so jacked up that I felt like I had gone back five years and had just shot a huge syringe full of strong cocaine. It did not help with my organizational skills or my motivation. The only effect that I got was an extreme high followed by an EXTREME COME DOWN!!!!! This is legal crystal meth and should never be prescribed. I don't know how it will effect children but I know that myself and certainly my child will never tale this medication. It was nothing short of terrifying. Read More Read Less

I am 35 years old and recently diagnosed. For 20 year I have had problems with anxiety and depression, failed relationships, impulsivity, inability to maintain focus, numerous job changes, lack of motivation. I started taking Vyvanse only three days ago. I cannot believe how good I feel for most of the day. I get through my work day and can focus and stay on task. I feel good. I am in a good mood. Things don't seem so cloudy and I don't seem so moody. I also have energy. The problems I have are at night around 7 pm. I get very anxious and irritable and my head feels like sparks are going off in it and I have a strong craving or want of alcohol and I normally don't drink. This is new to me and I don't know what to think. I go back to see the psychiatrist in 10 days. He said based on my history I have had ADHD since a small child. It all makes sense but I hope these side effects go away. I also have NO appetite. I forgot to eat today and realized tonight while making my son's dinner that I had not eaten all day.Read More Read Less

My daughter who is 10, started vyvance 50mg after complaining about that the concerta she was taking was not working as it was. At almost 2 weeks into it she broke out in a rash on her face that progressed onto her arms back and legs. She scratched her arms so bad she had little scabs all over. NOTHING could tke the itch away, we tried everything. After reading the adverse events it showed that 3% could have a rash or worse. I do think that it worked well with the exception of the rash. Our mornings were great.Read More Read Less

My 6 year old son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and perscribed 30mg Vyvanse. He has been taking it for 2 weeks. His grades have always been good (striaght A's all the way from kindergarden to spring of 1st grade)but his behavior has always been an issue. He was getting in trouble every day for things such as getting out of his seat without permission, blurting out answers, talking to and bothering other children in class, grabbing things away from others and hitting others. He was even denied entry ento the gifted and talented program because of his behavior. From the first day he started Vyvanse he has done a complete turn-around. He is thinking more about his behavior more instead of just acting on his impulses. He has some decrease in appetite mostly at lunch but a couple times he has not wanted to eat dinner. He said that about 45 minutes to an hour after taking the medicine his arms and legs felt "puffy" and he felt like his "heart was beating in his arms and legs". He has not had any problems with insominia. Overall I am very pleased with this medication because the behavior changes way outweigh the minor side-effects. I would recommend it to parents with children diagnosed with ADHD. Read More Read Less

My 12 yr. old son has been taking vyvanse for over 3 mths., in the begining there was a great improvement (he would not do school work, had 35 lessons incomplete(&that's not even the # of pages in 35 lessons)). It has seemed to make him more irratable(more so to me than others),loss of appetite, not asleep early enough for him to get the rest he needs, sometimes appears lethargic(maybe from lack of sleep),and now he seems so use to it that this week he started on 70mg & I really couldn't tell you I see much difference that the dosage before. Please let me know what I can do, I dDO NOT want to have not on it because there has been a significant change, but I don't want him irratable & moody (makes me worry he's depressed & I've read about too many teens being on adhd or antidepresants that attempt suicide)...Please share some facts & info.Read More Read Less

My daughter is 16 yrs old and started using Vyvanse for her ADHD. And it is working wonders not only has her grades gone up but the way she does things in her normal life. She told me one time, " Mom I really think about things before I do it". Before she was failing almost all her classes and unable to do homework. Now she is on honor roll and when she gets home from school does her homework right away... and enjoys it. I'm very satisfied with the outcome of this medication. And will recommed it to anyone, or any parent that is in need to find the right medication for there son or daughter's ADHDRead More Read Less

My 9 year old son started taking this medication 2 weeks ago. We switched from Mededate CD. I cannot believe the difference in him. I am so glad we tried this medicine. He has even begun to like his math homework and his handwriting has improved. This medicine has just been amazing for him. There have been some side effects like a decrease in appetite but I just feed him really good right before bed and when he wakes up.

My son is 6yrs old and has been on vyvanse for 4 months. we have noticed so many diff. side affects that we just dont like for him. Such as not eating a thing other then breakfast before the pill is given,he has lost 5lbs and is very depressed, not socializing at school and not ever wanting to leave the house, he just wants to keep to himself. I really feel this is unhealthy for him and will not continue to give this to him. Our next step is to try Ritalin LA which I'm still unsure about since they have the same side affects. First of all parents should note that Vyvanse is given in 3 doses, 30mg, 50mg, and 70mg. My 8 y.o. son started on the 30mg and was increased a month later to 50mg and this is what he is currently at. In the 3+ months that he has been on it, the only difference I've noticed is that it is longer acting than Adderall XR. It last thru 6PM and this is great for getting homework done after afterschool activities. He has had no side effects at all. Only his little brother keeps him awake at night :). However, there has been no difference in his school work/behavior since switching from Adderall XR to Vyvanse. I'm happy that it works long-term (11-12 hours) but not happy about the school side of it. His teacher has noticed no change as well, and this is frustrating to me. My son is in 2nd grade and will possibly repeat the grade because of his lack of attentiveness, focalization, and not retaining things he has learned this year. I am seeing his Doc. today and will be changing medications. Also note, that Vyvanse is NOT covered by Medicaid and will run about $140.00 a month. I don't know about other insurance companies and what they will cover or not cover, you may want to call your insurance company before deciding on this medication.Read More Read Less

My 9 yr old daughter has been on Vyvanse for 3 months now and it's amazing. The first few weeks were horrible with moody swings and sleepless nights. The next month got easier as we learned how to best respond to her and adjust to our new bedtime routine. This is the 3rd month and she's the Student of the Month for her class for the first time. I only wish we would have pursued this earlier.

I am 27, and was just diagnosed with ADHD. My doctor put me on this pill, 60 mg, and after 2 weeks on it, I can say I wish I had this when I was in school. Yes, it will keep you awake at night, but all you have to do is lay down and close your eyes, and you will fall asleep. Also, If you smoke, this pill tends to make you want to smoke alot more. I dont know why it causes that, but I went from half a pack a day, to a full pack. This will take away hunger, and hunger pains, but just eat whenever you want to, your body needs it!Read More Read Less

My 16 year old daughter has been taking the lowest dosage of Vyvanse for 3 weeks now. Immediately, she noticed a change in her focus ability at school(for the better), but had some side effects, including dry mouth, headaches, and extreme irritability. She was taking adderall (10mg) for one year, but the medicine was too much of a rollercoaster, which is why we changed to Vyvanse. We were hoping that she would adjust to the medicine, but unfortunately, that is not the case. My sweet daughter comes home every day extremely irritable, irrational, and overall not fun to be around. I told her today that she is not to take another pill of Vyvanse. Its not worth the attitude change. Yes, she is a teenager, but this weekend she did not take her medicine and she was her old self again. Parents, beware. Read More Read Less

I Have been on 30mg Vyvanse for 1 week for ADD not ADHD. I am also on Lexapro 20 mg for depression and anxiety disorder. The Lexapro made me very tired and as my doctor describes it "Zombie like". My doctor did warn me not to take vyvanse with out the lexapro or else i would get nervous. The first day it worked very good. I was very focused on what I needed to get done and had plenty of energy to do it. The next 2 days were the weekend and i only took it 1 day. Since then I took it everyday. The effect of the drug lessened and wore off sooner everyday. 1 30mg pill has little or no effect on me anymore. I started taking 1 and opening another pouring out about half and taking that to get some effect. I have not taken 2 at once. Vyvanse works very well for me when it is working. I have plenty of energy, am able to multitask, remember to do things, and more outgoing. Overall I am more productive at work and in my home life. I do have some side effects from the medication (some that were not listed on the label!). The ones I expected or were on the label are dry mouth; I drink water constantly, faster heart beat, hotter than normal, clammy hands, a little harder trying to go to sleep, jittery (hands shaking), not wanting to eat and weight loss. What I did not expect was craving cigarettes, inability to have an orgasm, my muscles being tight or crampy, and being exhausted at the end of the day. Lexapro makes it much harder to have an orgasm but never completely unable. Change in sexual abilitly/interest is on the label for vyvanse. I also had some chest pain today but I believe it was from the cigarettes i have been smoking when I normally do not smoke. If anyone has had these same symptoms can you let me know? I want to know if its something i should worry about. Read More Read Less
