Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I am a 43 year old female and was diagnosed with ADD about one month ago. I was on Adderall XR 25 mg. first thing in the morning and then 10 mg. at 2:00 (because the first dose did not last all day) for the first month. During my one month follow up dr. gave me vyvanse to try to get a full day and no "drop off" I have been on it for 2 days and I notice on the second day that my emotions were up and down. Seemed to be angry and irritable. The sleep, dry mouth and loss of appetite are very tolerable. I was wondering if anyone had the irritabity side effect and if it goes away? I do like that I don't have a "jolt" of any type with this drug as I did on the adderall. I do feel focused (not as much energy as adderall though) and I like the long effects during the day but I don't want to be "ill" or emotional. . Read More Read Less

It has helped with my son's school attention. Before he couldn't really focus in school and not paying attention in class. Now he can focus and doesn't get in much trouble now. He still has his days, but they seem to be getting better and better all the time. Hopefully this medication will continue to help my son, and we won't have to change to another medication. Which it would make the 5th one he has tried.

I see very improvement in my work and in my task. But, like if you get mad, just watch out getting mad. Because it helps make you more mad. I am very satisfied. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone who already has a short temper. But I have seen changes. And my teacher has to.

My 7 year old daughter start taking this medication in December. Although she lost a lot of weight at the very beginning of the treatment, she has maintained since the first two weeks of being on it. The difference in her behavior at home and at school is AMAZING! She has improved greatly in her school work and is not getting in trouble anymore. She is much happier.

I am not happy at all with Vyvanse. I am 24 years old and have been taking Adderall (20 mg) to treat my ADD since high school. My doctor suddenly suggested I switch to Vyvanse, offering little explanation why. (Supposedly, Shire's patent on Adderall is close to expiring and they are attempting to continue to corner the market by pushing the docs to prescribe Vyvanse, which Shire also makes.) I actually sat down to research the drug just a few hours after I first took it because I was becoming so freaked out by the side effects. I literally feel like I just smoked a bag full of weed. It is not helping me focus or making me feel motivated like Adderall does. I feel sluggish and numb. I am starting to think this drug is intended more for hyperactive children, than for a stressed out law student trying to prepare for finals. It calmed me down, but it left me in a Zombie-like state. As soon as I come out of this strange, albeit legal, Vyvanse induced drug-haze I am calling my pharmacist to switch back to Adderall.Read More Read Less

I am a 26 year old female and have been taking this medication for only about 2 months now. I can't even explain what a difference it has made for me! I can finally think and follow through on things that I was usually too "scatter brained" to handle before. The only problem I have had is that I have gained 6 pounds since I started the medication. I have been SO hungry! I know that's pretty much the complete opposite than I've seen reported on this site. Maybe it's just me. I have to work harder at keeping in shape but I'm willing to do that to feel "normal" again. I would strongly recommend this drug.Read More Read Less

I have been on 50 mg Vyvanse for ~1 week. I was diagnosed with ADHD in college and took serveral different meds (Adderall, Concerta, Phentermine, etc.) After graduation, I had no need to take them. I recently started a job in which I attend power school and deal with very complex subjects. I went back on phentermine (not normally used for ADHD, but the others were not strong enough) After a month, it quit working, so I went two weeks without it and my test grades dropped dramatically. I went to a new Dr. who suggested Vyvanse. In a week, I have gone from falling asleep in class and having to read a paragraph 30 times to slightly understand it, to being fully attentive and I actually comprehend the material. I have only had a few side effects, but the rewards are much greater than the side effects. I have somewhat lost my appetite, but I can easily eat at meal time. I stay up till about midnight or so and get about 4 hours of sleep a night, but I am sleeping better and longer than without medication (before with no medication, I only slept for an hour or so a night). The only truly bad side effect has been the dry mouth and my teeth have become extremely sensitive (I might possibly be gritting my teeth at night, but I'm not sure). Has anyone else had tooth pain? Otherwise, I would recommend this medication to anyone with ADHD. I know everyone is different, but from my experience, it is at least worth a try. Also, it lasts me all day and no crash.Read More Read Less

I'm 15 year young and I did take Adderall for about 4 years. But I wasn't eating very much and was kinda depressed a lot and did not work as fast as I needed it to work. So i was put on Vyvanse and while I thought it was working okay I relaized that I feel like I don't want to do anything and have trouble breathing. I have only been on this drug for about 3 months now

My daughter began taking this drug 2 weeks ago. While her stomach hurts and she is not sleeping much yet- she is much happier than she has ever been. It is as though she can now make friends and do her school work! Unfortunately its not quite going to fix everything. We are now examining the need for prozac.

Not recommended. I'm 29 and had much more success w/ ritalin than w/ this new medicine. While on this I felt very blah. I didn't want to do anything. Unmotivated and in a bad mood, then I'd get a horrible headache in the afternoon. I started taking this due to the wearing off that happens w/ ritalin but I'd take that anyday, at least ritalin works. Oh the one nice thing (well for me) is I totally lost my appetite. I've never had that issue w/ ritalin.

I'm 27 years old, and I've recently been diagnosed with ADHD (hyperactivity and inability to focus). Within the first few hours of taking this drug, I feel great, happy and free of thoughts...the only complaint is a heavy chest and it is extremely hard for me to take deep breaths...I find myself gasping for air. As the day continues, I become extremely tired and I am absolutely 100% unable to eat. Even when I eat before I take my morning dosage, it is still extremely hard for me to choke down food. I find myself eating a lot of ice cream and soups, no solids. As a result, I am rapidly losing weight. On top of losing my appetite, I can no longer sleep. I get an average of 4 hours a night, if I am lucky. When the meds rare off after 12 hours, my body immediately bounces back into "overdrive." However, I can finally eat (small portions), but the fidgeting and difficulty I have communicating develops once more, and the neverending racing thoughts begin once more. I am not sure what to think of this drug. I feel weak and useless every day because I have absolutely no energy (probably because I have no appetite) and I am so tired. Because I do not feel well, I have no motivation. I began taking Vyanase with the encouragement that it would slow me down, motivate me, and help me focus. It has done some of this...but more than anything else...it leaves me on a weird "high." Not like a speed-gotta get things done high, but a relaxed, outter body experience high. Has anyone else experienced this as well?Read More Read Less

My 10 year daughter used to take Concerta for her ADHD. The medicine did not last through her school day, and in addition she lost a tremendous amount of wait. The doctor changed her medicine and she is able to concentrate through the day and even long enough in the evening to complete her homework. She has experienced NO side effects from taking this medicine. I accidently forgot to give her the medicine one day. She came home and told me that she could tell that she had a very hard time focusing. I feel that if she is able to tell the difference when she does and does not take the medicine, it is working and maybe she is able to help fight her problem also.Read More Read Less

My son, 14, has been taking Vyvanse for the past 8 months for his ADHD. We have tried Concerta, Ritalin, Adderall & Strattera. With all of these other meds he showed an increase in aggressive behaviour - Strattera and Adderall were the worst. With these other medications, he was also very zombie-like and never wanted to do anything. When my son starting taking Vyvanse, I noticed an immediate improvment in his behaviour and self-esteem. At the time my son starting taking Vyvanse, he was extremely overweight, after being on this medication, he has lost nearly 35 pounds, in his case a great side effect. Also, his self-esteem has vastly improved. My son has always been behind his other classmates in school and is now able to focus more on his school work and is rapidly catching up to his grade level.Read More Read Less

My 11 year old daughter had been taking concerta for the past 4 years, she began to have mood swings on it, so we decided to try taking her off her med. It didn't work, her grades startes falling severely. After trying a couple of different ones that had serious side effects, our Doctor decided to try vyvanse. It has been good so far with no side effects. I have noticed a big improvement in her mood, and how she is interacting with others. I hope this helps. As we all know that sometimes finding the right meds. are trial and error, everyones is different. Good luck to all you parents who deal with this issue on a daily basis. Read More Read Less

Can't believe how much BETTER I am doing on Vyvanse; I was on Adderall XR and was experiencing horrible side effects, duration wasn't long enough; etc...but with Vyvanse- nothing. I can eat again, I'm not moody, I am able to focus at work. I recommend this product to everyone

My 8 year old daughter was taking Strattera for ADHD for several months before changing to Vyvanse. Within one week of starting this med, she began having unusual eye movements, later diagnosed as Tourette's, most likely brought out by the Vyvanse. My daughter has been off Vyvanse for over one month with no improvement of the Tourette's. We now have to see a pediatric Neurologist(more $$ to dish out after paying $138 for Vyvanse). This side effect should be taken serious by the drug company and healthcare providers. Now my daughter struggles in school with no medication and is pointed out several times a day for her tic.Read More Read Less

Vyvanse is working better than adderall because the effect stays more level throughout the day. I only have to take it once in the morning and it lasts throughout my 12 hour work day.

I'm 27 and have add just found out a month ago ,was on adderall 30xr felt great able to focus with low side effects.doc wanted me to try vyvanse 50mg dont know why i did.Like i said felt great on adderall 30xr. WOW!!!! felt ok for the first 2 hrs then felt very very tired and depressed bad angry as heck, didn't even want to be around my 5 and 2 year old. yeah that bad.I figured it needed time to work in my system thought maybe the two were interacting with each other, nope! 5 days later didnt even want to go to work, and i like my job.So i call the pharmacy told them i was on adderall and doc put me on vyvanse and was wandering if i should be feeling that way.He says no that adderall and vyvanse are the same drug (bulls*#t)i felt night and day diffrence.Add. made me feel motivated and wanting to read and work, focused, and completely no stress at all.Vyvanse made me feel horribly depressed and tired, anti social, mad as heck, confused, caught myself daydreaming alot.My friends at work were realy worried about me.I've read online somewhere that it has only been tested on 6-12 year old kids.May be its not for adults or maybe it depends on how your body takes it.I am back on add. but for the first day back on it i felt still like crap but a tad bit better.Second day slight bit crappy but alot better.Third day i felt the focus and my social skills ,motivation, and happieness were back to were they were before getting off adderall. So if you are middle age and on adderall dont switch to vyvanse i warn you now..hope i was of help to all..Read More Read Less
