Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

MY 9 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER BEGAN TAKING VYVANSE 3 MONTHS AGO. SHE IS HAPPIER AND MORE FOCUSED. SHE WAS EVEN ABLE TO GET HER GRADES UP IN THE LAST 9 WEEKS OF SCHOOL AND WENT FROM FAILING MATH TO PASSING! THIS WAS THE BEST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE FOR MY DAUGHTER! THE FIRST 72 HOURS WERE DIFFICULT BUT WORTH THE EFFECTIVENESS AND IMPROVEMENT OF MY DAUGHTER'S LIFE!

My 11 year old son started this med last week it may have caused a interaction with his depakote with the depakote it caused a toxic reaction in my son and he is hospitalized Vyvance has not had a lot of research in combanation with anti-seizure medications and the docter who gave him both meds can.t be sure that Vyvance was a safe pill for him to start I only wish we would have been told of this possibly reaction but there hasn,t been enough research of vyvance so please ask a lot of question before taking this medicine or giving it to your child if they are taking other long team medicationRead More Read Less

First, I am curious as to why there is no designation for ADD without the H. I do not feel like I fall under the H category. This drug has been a MIXED BAG for me. I really LIKE the motivating effects of Vyvanse. However, My EXECUTIVE FUNCTION (perfect example: I'm trying to take the keyboard off of "caps lock" and I've hit the tab button several times) seems to have gotten worse. I also talk A LOT MORE. I over-explain things. I fumble for the right words, especially in front of groups. And it takes me FOREVER to type letters or posts! So: INCREASED MOTIVATION + REDUCED DECISION MAKING + CONFUSION = STRESS, AGITATION, LESS PATIENCE, SELF-ESTEEM ISSUES, etc... I told my doc that I have been having problems managing my temper at work and he increased my DOSE to 100mg twice a day. I have not seen anyone taking this high of dosage OR MORE than ONCE a day. I can remember having temper tantrums when I was a teenager (rarely-but I had them and they were scary) so I know the DRUG is not totally responsible but... But I am reluctant to go off because I like that I don't just wanna lay around. I want to get out and do things. I've never done Adderall. Interesting that one person posted that SHIRE is about to lose their no-generic status(don't know the actual term)AND brand profits for Adderrall. Seems to be timed very well with the release of Vyvanse. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but it makes you go HMMMMM. Read More Read Less

I am 46 y/o Nurse with family being treated for ADD not ADHD. I have never struggled in school but as a nurse I feel as though I can't keep up. I am putting in 15 hr days, still not done and mentally exhuasted. I work till I fall asleep, dream work and wake up to complete yesterdays job giving me a late start on new day. I have been exhisting on no-doze and soda. Organization and time management, procrastination, always late, another spvr writing out goals for me about completing my job in a timely manner - my symptoms. MD prescibed Vyvance 50 mg and said I would feel affects immediately. Well, I was so hopeful but feel as if I have lost even more focus. The first day I couldn't add simple numbers. Had to try 6 times - this is NOT me. Now I am losing words and forgetful, very chatting and losing more time instead of it helping me to organize it. If I didn't have ADD before, I have it now! Any adults facing opposite effects as I am? I've never had anything else. Oh, but he also prescribed for me celexa (antidepressent) and zantac. I have had no stomach problems or mood changes. Of course I have had it only 2 days and yes, I have that dry mouth and no appetite. When I finally went to eat I was selecting foods not in my norm. Chicken salad (something cool for my dry mouth) and onion soup - liquids for that thirst. I'm still drinking sodas (2-3/day) and when meds wore off last night and work was REALLY behind I took 1/2 nodoze (didn't know I was supposed to avoid caffiene - didn't see this site yet) but it didn't seem to double any affects except I realize that I didn't sleep well - I did that to myself! After this write -up from spvr I'm afraid this is going to make me perform worse. I started asking a string of questions to my patient and they reminded me that I already covered this. Oh my! I didn't even remember! I catch myself not knowing what buttons to push on my computer and this is slowing me down. Quite the opposite of what I need while being scrutinized. HELPRead More Read Less

My daughter was ddiagnosed with adhd in first grade. Her doctor has tried several different adhd drugs only to see short term improvemnet. She was started on Vyvanse about 3 months ago. It has been a miracle. I have seen a complete turn around. She is happier and more focused. She was even able to bring her last 9 weeks grade up enough to keep from failing math. The only major side effect that I have noticed is weight loss. She has lost lost about 15 pounds in three months but it has leveled off and she is no longer losing the weight. If you have tried other adhd drugs for child and they have not worked then I 100% recommend trying Vyvanse.Read More Read Less

I have found myself able to concentrate while taking exams. It was nice to finally get an A in a math class after two Ds and a C. I am still waiting for the day when I will not have to take any more pills. But, in the meantime, I look forward to taking the pretty blue and white capsule each morning.

I started out w/ 30 mg which wasn't enough but it worked for a while then I went to the 75 mg which was like a ephedra/caffenine/adderall/fire running through my veins. I didn't sleep fof days even when trying to not take it and then taking sleeping pills and cyclos. The week after I pulled myself off, I was almost narcoleptic and fell asleep at the wheel, getting me a Wreckless driving ticket. So then we tried 50 mg and it was relatively uneffective...almost just like having a cup of coffee. I've now switched to concerta 54mg...wish me luck. I still think this is a good drug b/c there is no crash and its hard to abuse...Read More Read Less

As an accounting professional i was recently diagnosed and placed on 30 mg. Recently promoted from a position of constant multitasking to needing long term concentration and focus I highly recomend it(for adults). I have been taking this for about a month. Often accused of having the focus and maturity of a 20 year old, WOW, this is how grown ups think. I am SO focused i have requested additional projects where as in the past i couldnt finish what was assigned. Yes it does slow you down tremendously almost lathargic. Normally i could not sit still for more than 20 minutes without a panic attack. Side effects are dry mouth, afternoon headaches, sweaty hands and a decrease in appetite. WARNING if you are sensitive to medication DO NOT drink caffiene with this. It multiplies the effects greatly. So much so i could not function. It does take a bit to "kick in" about 2 hours, but lasts the entire 12 hour work day. It has effected not only work but my personal life. I seem to think things through BEFORE acting where as in the past I acted and dealt with consequences later. I like the fact i can take it on work days and not on my days off when i want to be my hyperactive self. The benefits far outweigh the disadvantages.Read More Read Less

My son is in 6th grade, I had taken him off of concerta because the side effects just weren't worth it. (stunted growth, no appetite,no sleep) This year (6th grade, new school alot more pressure and independence) was a nightmare, he couldn't get organized, he couldn't stay on task. So needless to say he was failing 2 classes and d's in the rest ugghh. We really didn't want to go the medication route but we had already tried the other alternatives with no long lasting results. We spoke with our pediatrician (please no lectures on how he should be seen by a phyciatrist ) and he said that there was a new medication that had less side effects then the other meds we had tried. It is Vyvanse. He has been on it for 3 months so far. The 2nd day I couldn't believe it. I was getting calls from teachers saying that he was really trying hard and was asking for all his missed assignments to make up! He would come home and do his homework with out my prodding! I couldn't believe it! Now 3months later a teacher called yesterday and told me that he was now one of their favorite students, that he was polite and mature and a hard worker!and that he will make the honor roll!!! (this has NEVER happened before!) I just sat down and cried. after getting calls all year about what a mess he was... to get such a good report was overwhelming. OK, now that's not to say that there have been no side effects. The first 2 weeks were rough (I almost took him off of it) he had severe stomachaches and some crying fits and loss of appetite. These are just about gone but he must eat a good breakfast with the meds or he does get sick. It is to soon to see about any growth stunts. Good Luck to you. Read More Read Less

I've been taking 30mg doses each morning for about 2 weeks. For years teachers and guidance counselors had been telling me to get evaluated for ADHD, when I finally did the doctor thought I was seeking ADHD meds for abuse, openly accusing me of wanting to get adderalls to snort, but reluctantly prescribed me Vyvanse 30mg, since its potential for abuse is lower than other available medications. The first 2 day I physically felt very disphoric, and had stomach pains. By the third day the disphoria was minimal, although the stomach pains never went away. The drug has made me feel alot less aggressive. I'm normally in a constant state of anger, or occasionally depression, this drug moderates my emotions and makes me feel somewhat zombie-like. The drug does help with motivation and concentration. Towards the end of my 1st Class, the effects peak. By my 3rd class the effects are minimal, and by 4th class I'm very tired and can't focus any better than before I started my script. All day after school I feel exhausted and have a lack of motivation to do anything, including hobbies I normally enjoy. I always feel tired, and sleepy. Despite it being a stimulant, I have no problem sleeping while the drug is in effect. The only reason I bother to continue taking it is because it minimizes my anger.Read More Read Less

I was started on this medication by my doctor after a failure of both Straterra and Ritalin and also after not liking the previous effects that other amphetemines have had (the outbursts of energy that faded after a time period and also the faster heartbeat and weightloss etc). I have been taking it for about 3 months now and at first, there was a heightened irritibility and also severe palpitations and weight loss which have been common with all stimulants I have tried, (except for the irritibility was worse initially when I started this drug than the other drugs I tried but did go away after the first 2 weeks) however have become more tolerable than the other drugs that I have been on previously the longer I have been on it. I am really happy that this drug lasts all day long without much of a change in energy level like the sudden bursts of energy that would decrease after a few hours of taking the doses of the other drugs. I have not noticed a decrease in the amount of energy over all compared to the other drugs, just a more consistant effect which is one of the greatest benefits since I started using this drug compared to the others I tried in the past. I am hoping that the FDA approves it for use in adults soon though because it is expensive and not covered by my insurance for that reason. Also, I wish that the doses were easier to cut in half and since they only come in 30, 50, and 70 mg capsules, it is difficult to try to take a lesser amount if I feel I don't need as much stimulation in a day.Read More Read Less

I have been taking Vyvanse for about a month and noticed a difference right away. I can't believe the results. I am liking the weight loss but don't like the fact that I am in the "potty" all of the time and the my mouth is super dry. I drink alot of fluids to keep from getting dehydrated but think the good outweighs the bad for sure. I wish they made a smaller dose. I can only handle 1/2 of a 50mg daily. My son takes 10mg of Focalin and it has made a huge difference in his school work and ability to concentrate. He has said that he doesn't feel any different than he did before but is "smarter" (he is 8 and started his meds about a month before me) I wish I would have started my meds before him b/c I think I would have taken it myself first to see what happens before subjecting my child to this type of med. I am glad that all worked out.Read More Read Less

I am 23 yrs. old and in college this medcine has somewhat helped me but not as much as the Adderall XR did. I am alittle concerned with this medicine making me feel like I am having heart fluttering. I have never had this issue before on the other meds I have taken. I will be talking with my doctor about this.

I started taking this my 3rd quarter of 8th grade. I am very smart but have had ADD since about 3rd grade,I'm also very unmotivated and don;t give much effort. The drug help me to go from straight D's to all A's and B's. It not only increased my attention but my motivation. I also i don't get bad side affects at all other then a small trouble sleeping at night.

My doctor prescribed this medication for me. I have been tacking it for two week now. I is incredibly easy to focus. I was tacking stitera, it just wasn't right. I have one minor side effect, when I take a second medicine (guaphisine) I have these quick flashes of black and i feel like I'm going to pass out. This only happens twice a day and lasts maybe 2 seconds.
