Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I was prescribed vyvanase 30mg and then 50mg. I was glad to see someone else state they had jaw clenching since I have noticed that. I get headaches from it. I am still not convinced that the side effects are worth the small change in attention.

My eight year old started on this after a year on Adderall XR. She has had a much shorter adjustment period to the medication. Her stomach and headaches went away within 3 days. She also was more 'herself' on this medication than on the Adderall. Her spunkiness was kept in tact while her impulsiveness was curbed very effectively. We did not see any change in her appetite with this drug, but were really not expecting one. We are thrilled with how this works for her.

My 10 year old son's ADHD symptoms were not changed at all by this product. It was as if he were just drinking a glass of water. So, the the doctor increased the dosage to 50 mg. This did not change the non-effectiveness of the drug. But, it caused my son to have nightmares, evil thoughts, hopelessness, increased anger, suicidal thoughts, wanted to run away, and lost interest in art. You must realize, this kid if gifted in art and normally draws on anything he can get his hands on. So, his passion for art was gone. Now, we are trying Strattera. I am so hoping it will work better. I don't know if these negative reactions would occur for for a child with ADD or not. But, I DO NOT recommend it to anyone with ADHD. And, I strongly warn you, if you do give the Vyvanse to your child, to ask your child OFTEN how he's feeling and what his thoughts are.Read More Read Less

After trying Ritalin and Strattera, I switched doctors and he introduced me to Vyvanse. I noticed my energy level increased and focus ability increased as well. I began with 30mg daily and after 4 weeks, was increased to 50mg daily. My doctor was a bit concerned about the weight loss. (16 lbs in 8 wks) After a few months, my ability to focus decreased and my irritability increased. I felt "wiped out" by 3pm. (i take it at 7am) I work a typical monday-friday, 8-5 job but take night classes 2 nights a week. we increased my dose again to 50mg, twice daily. (only taking the second pill on the days i had class after work) This did help and I was able to manage being a full time wife, mother of 5, full time nurse in a correctional facility, and part time student making A's in my classes. MY worst side effect was jaw clentching. At times, I didn't even notice I was clentchig my jaws until my jaws and neck were so sore I couldn't talk or eat.... which brings me to the weight loss. After taking Vyvanse for 6 months now, I have gone from about 150lbs to 116lbs. I will literally go 2 days before I realize I haven't eaten! Not healthy but, this is also contributed to my non-stop, hectic lifestyle. My doctor has raised and eyebrow and has cautioned me to develop better eating habits. Overall, I value what the medication has done for me... I just wish I could fix the "jaw" thing... becomes very painful to the point Ibuprofen and tylenol offers NO relief.Read More Read Less

My son will be 6 years old in 2 months. He has been diagnosed with ADHD, we tried Focalin XR, Adderall 10 mg and 20 mg and nothing worked. We tried Vyvanse 30 mg and we had to stop it on the 4th. day due to he got very depressed and spent 3-4 hours crying and screaming every day from 9am to 1pm non stop. Teachers at summer camp were unable to help him control the crying, he even tried to run away. He only calmed down when I (mom) got there. While on this medication he could not fall asleep fast enough and in ocassions he told me he was feeling shy and scared. We will try Concerta tomorrow, hopefully this works. Read More Read Less

My son is 8 years old and suffers from Autism PDD-NOS. He was diagnosed at 3 years old, and over the years we have gone through a number of different medications. We've tried Ritilan, Risperadol (I don't recomend that one as he gained over 30 pounds in less than 3 months), Clonadine, Guanfacine, and Daytrana (another one I don't recomend because it had the lovely side effects of halucinations and chewing his toung until it bled). I though we were never going to find something that worked without the horrible side effects. Then finally there was Vyvanse. It's sort of difficult to get him to take it everyday because he refuses to swallow pills and it tastes terrible out of the capsule, but once I finally manage to get it down him, it's like a miricle. Friends and family that used to have a lot of problems with his behavior are now wanting to spend more time with him. His teachers and his aid at school noticed a big change in his concentration. It took nearly a year, but he lost all of the weight that he had put on with the other medication, and it seems to have helped with the constipation and digestive problems caused by the PDD. I am very happy with this medication. Read More Read Less

YAY! this "pro-drug" helped me achieve my highest gpa to date in college--i'm able to study, focus, and hold conversations without offending people with my inattentiveness!!! the nice part is that i still feel like myself--not zombie-like or robotic. i tolerate the vyvanse much better than other drugs, and i don't feel medicated. the most noticeable side effect is dry mouth and the first few weeks my appetite wasn't as strong (but my hunger promptly returned :) ) i had tried adderall in high school but it sometimes made me short tempered (well, more so than just my normal adhd outbursts) and it definitely had noticeable crashes. i was on ritalin when i was younger, but my parents didn't really like the idea of medicating children (gr). overall i would recommend vyvanse, but everyone is different and i'm sure the effects can vary greatly from both genetic/environmental differences. although this is a pro-drug it is still a stimulant, so make sure your heart is healthy! good luck :) Read More Read Less

i have ADD (not ADHD); this med really helped me focus and stay on task. I recently started this med and am only taking 60 mg a day - potentially moving up to 100 mg a day. it's worked wonders for me!

Diagnoses with ADHD at 27. I started on two 50 mg Vyvanse every morning (100 mg/daily) and I went from barely working 40 hours and taking a lunch every day to working 70-80 hours every week. I was producing an unbelievably amount of work, though it continued to go unrecognized at my office (which makes anyone feel good). Side Effects: Where to start... I had a drug interaction within my first month, which resulted in a dramatic visit to the ER, an EKG, MRI, some other acronym tests that were expense and it turned out to be a seizure/nervous system freeze. It was basically like your computer freezing and your mouse icon stops moving but you hear your computer is still on and the monitor is on, but nothing is happening. My fingers and toes curled uncontrollably. My lips and facial muscles were making their own expressions and I couldn't stop any of it. SCARY! (Apparently) I had taken a prescpription strength decongestant with it that makes the two drugs fight for control of the nervous system. But something major to remember: Vyvanse was only officially released in July of last year (07), so even the ER docs and my respiratory specialists had no knowledge of this drug. The OTHER side effects: weight loss is an understatement. It was gradual at first, but after a solid six months on 100 mg, I have dropped 48 lbs. At first, I had paranoia and one or two other minor effects, but I associate them as standard with the controlled substance category. Nearly 10 solid months later, still have the weight off. Irritability was and still is a constant, just depends on how little sleep I got the night before and if I'm driving (which is the worst b/c I live in downtown)! Dry mouth came and went, some days are chattier than others. When I (seldom) don't take it, like a day off when I need to rest & get sleep, I eat a lot. Overall: I can NOT imagine surviving without it now. My nickname isn't "Moody Matilda" anymore, and work & relationships are better. Miracle pill!Read More Read Less

I've only been on this med a few days. I have mild ADHD. But since I've been taking it I've had headaches every night, I've been extremely irritable and have had a lot of trouble sleeping at night. I'm not thrilled with this at all. And the effectiveness of it only lasts about 3 hours after i take it, and even still, it doesn;t seem to be doing much. And I heard it is supposed to last thru out the day and I don't think that is true in mycase.

I am a 25 y/o male. I began taking Vyvanse 2 months ago, I wish I started taking this med sooner. I am able to concentrate at work, I am better able to organize, my co-workers are amazed by the change in my work performace. I experienced a constant head ache for about 3 days, resolved and has not returned. I occaisionaly experience an upset stomach if i take the med on an empty stomach(pepto helps). I still experience dry mouth but have found that chewing gum helps with production of saliva. I think it's a fair trade off. I wish I'd started taking this medication years ago. I strongly recommend seeing a psychiatric MD and not your usual PCP for ADHD treatment. This will help reduce side effects from use of non effective meds. Different medications help with certain symptoms of both ADHD and ADD, a psychiatric MD is more familiar with the different meds and will be better able to prescribe according to symptoms. My 11 year old daughter has been on vyvanse for 6 weeks. She started at 30mg for the first month and she is now on the 50mg. (She had been taking 30 mg of focalin xr for almost 2 years but it had started wearing off after 4 hours. After increasing her to 40 mg. of the focalin xr with no improvement we tried Daytrana, no luck. Her doctor then prescribed vyvanse. The first 2 days she had a headache and was very sleepy. Her doctor did not take into consideration that she is taking the generic form of zoloft at night(50 mg) to help with severe OCD--we lowered her dosage of zoloft (25mg) and the two medications together are working miracles for my daughter. The last 3 weeks of school were the best she had all year. The only thing about the vvyvanse is that it does takes an hour or so to start working (like most of the extended release drugs). My daughter takes her dose within a few minutes of waking up so it is working by the time she needs to be at school (or now at summer camps). My daughter does not have ADHD, just ADD and severe Obsessive Compulsive Disrorder (which her former medications made worse). And other then vyvanse working all day the other great thing is that my daughter has an appetite and she has actually gained weight since she began taking it. Before she would only eat when the Focalin would wear off. She is still underweight but she looks and feels so much better now. She also says that when the vyvanse wears off that she doesn't feel as 'grouchy' as she did on Focalin.Read More Read Less

I am 39 years old and switched from Adderall XR to Vyvanse a few weeks ago. I thought that things were going well at first and that I would feel better after an adjustment period. Instead, I'm dizzy, plagued with severe headaches, irritable, and I'm making poor decisions at work. I get confused easily and often forget what I'm supposed to be doing. I'm also having a terrible time speaking - I can't seem to find the words I'd like to use when trying to discuss things with other people (very bad when you work in sales). I had high hopes for Vyvanse and I'm sure it works well for some people but it definately doesn't work for me.Read More Read Less

My daughter was diagnosed with mild ADD at 15 yrs of age. She has tried a number of medications, but they either gave her tics or made her exteremly irritable as the drugwore off. So far no success. She has tried Adderall, Straterra and Vyvanse at different doses.
