Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

When I first started on Vyvanse, I noticed a HUGE improvement on my energy, focus, mood, and ability to complete tasks. I started at 30mg and then went to 70. It has been 2 weeks total and 1 week of the increased dose and I don't feel the effects anymore and I can definitely feel it "wear off" within 6 hours. I feel like something is seriously wrong. When it does wear off, I feel so out of it, so mentally confused, exhausted. I hope that these side effects get better-- I am seeing my doctor this week. I'm worried because for a while I felt like I was going to be the person I've always wanted to be-- like my head was above the clouds-- and now I feel like it's slipping away. Does anybody have any advice/ insight?Read More Read Less

BE Careful this medicine can be very dangerous my 25yr old colledge student brother was prescribed this medicine for ADHD wich he was never diagnosed with until 25yrs old his side effects:insomnia, eating problems, severe skin rash, the med seemed to help him focus for a bit but watch out the come down is like a bad crash emotionally weird behavior from a man whom never exhibitted those things before dilusional thoughts to the point we(family)called paramedics he was then comitted to the psyciatric floor of a hospital for two weeks and told he was a paranoid scitzophranic out of no where this healthy both mentally and physicaly man was back and forth to the hospital increased heart rate OCD paranoid and over all not well the worst is him not seeing there is a problem this drug is very dangerous my brother was given this med before it was FDA approved for use in adults!!! Negligence. The withdrawel process has been very hard a non drinker craving alcohol every night extremely anxious scattered thoughts racing like he ran on batteries. Please be warned the side effects out weigh the benefits if any one you love is prescribed this med watch them carefully because unfortunately the doctors just take the referal from Shires and prescribe it make sure you have a good doctor to follow treatment and side effects. Why is this medicine FDA approved for adults when all the blind studies on theyre web site were done in children???? Please ask for something else VERY VERY DANGEROUS to take vyvanse without extreme caution and oversight. My brother whom would have been a doctor himself is on a rough road to recovery, out of college and unsure if the side effects will go away, anyone else out there going through simular circumstance please share your experience.Read More Read Less

I first went to my doctor and asked if I could try this medicine after my boyfriend was precribed it from his doctor... We were both on adderall xr, and I had ran out of my adderall, and so I tried vyvanse. And I really liked it, until my doctor prescribed it to me, I became so incredably moody, and became very depressed. I was unbearable to be around. I became incredibly impatient, I work with elderly giving inhome care, and you've got to have patience in my field! I'd become upset and frustrated with my clients, that is when I knew it was time for another change... Read More Read Less

I am 34 years old, and was diagnosed with ADHD about 8 years ago. At diagnosis, I was treated with Ritalin, which was the worst experience ever. That experience created damn near a militant response towards ANYONE family or friends who even suggested using medication to treat ADHD. I firmly believed that it can controlled and managed by organizing oneself and help from my wife keeping my on-task. Despite, my "organizing" I had become increasing frustrated and down-on-myself regarding my seemingly lack of success with both work and my relationship with my wife. After listening to several stories - Glenn Beck, Ty Pennington and family friends - I decided to see a doctor and give medication a chance. My doctor had prescribed Vyvannse. And frankly and emphatically, IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE. I am extremely focused and motivated with everything. I look at everything with a new set of eyes, and I have the self confidence to tackle any and every problem. I am still playing with the dosages. Currently, I take a 30 mg at 6:30am, with another 30 mg pill at 10:00am. My day is not a 9-to-5, and I typically work or entertain customer in the evening. It did take time for my body to get used to it. I experienced some light headedness and my heart raced a bit. (That may have been due to my anxiety of taking meds...but, that has subsided) I had some insomnia, which was taken care of by exercise and (early on) Melatonin. The exercise is a tremendous help. My appetite is suppressed, but I now eat normally/healthy - portions sizes only. I now weigh 197 pounds, my heaviest was 217. The only true scare I had was with alcohol. Let's just say, I used to self medicated a LOT, before Vyvannse. The first weekend on Vyvannse I drank as normal, and felt fine. Then next day I had a tremendous headache and nearly passed out. I thought I was checking out. I haven’t had alcohol since. Other than that episode, this medication has been a God-send. Good luck... Read More Read Less

I have tried a few other meds before the vyvanse and had issues of some sort with each one. My dosing has been all over the place with the vyvanse in the past few months but hopefully were getting it worked out. Im taking 20mg in the morning and with work and school and homework and one child I also take 20mg around noon. It seems to do well especially in the morning. The side effect I hate the most is the gittery hands. Therefore I feel parinoid that others notice. I always chew gum now to keep myself from grinding my teeth and it helps with the dry mouth also. I have lost a few pounds though! I do have a shorter temper but I have been able to control it. Shortness of breath at times comes a lot sooner than if I were not taking it and at those times it almost feels like I cant take a complete deep breath untill I sit and relax. I do stay up very late at night doing homework almost every night but now its not late its early as in, im lucky if I get to sleep around 4am. Even with the side effects I feel that Vyvanse has helped my motivation and focus. Although if the side effects get worse in the future I dont know if I will stay with it or try something else. Problem is, Im tired of "trying something else"! I just want something that does what its suposed to do with none of the anoying side effects! I know...thats imposible.Read More Read Less

The first few months of taking vyvanse for ADHD it was like a godsend. Concentration, Energy, and Focus improved and allowed me to do my job as a senior sales representative. After about four months I developed a form of mania in the way of paranoia and even hearing and seeing things that were bot real, finally came the rage. I cut myself off from the medication (70mg) and waiting for my body and mind to no longer be dependent on this drug. I would not recommend this medication, especially if you suffer from depression.Read More Read Less

My 8 year son was prescribe Vyvanse because he was having agressive behavior in school and the Dr. prescribe Vyvanse and his behavior got increasingly worse. So now he is on Concerta which has calmed him down some. If you are already agressive being prescribe Vyvanse is not going to help.

I've been on every ADD mecidine known. I felt like there was no hope. After taking Vyvanse for just a few days, I felt like a new person. I've got more energy, more organized and have even lost a few pounds. I exercise at a gym 5 days a week and I feel great inside and out.

My son tried Ritalin and Adderall and the side effects were horrible. He would chew on his hands and fingers until they bled. He even chewed the tips of his gloves so he could chew on his fingers. We switched to Focalin which worked for about 2 years and then we saw a lack of response and then switched to Vyvanse. He currently takes 30 mg but after a year on it I feel he needs to be bumped to 50 mg and I am asking for it at his next appointment. I have never been so happy with his medication. I have seen an improvement in his school work and in his home life. I plan to continue with this med as long as we can.Read More Read Less

I had to stop taking Adderall after over a year because of side effects. My Dr put me on Vyvanse Feb 2008. While it's not as effective as the Adderall had been, it gives enough results that I notice the difference if a day or 2 is missed. Correct dosing is vital of course.

16 year old male. Mild motivation issues that doctors have called ADD. Though my concentration did increase, the side effects to this were terrible. Absolutely terrible. Irritability, trouble sleeping, inability to achieve an erection or ejaculation (in my teenage years? good joke). Thoroughly not reccommended.

this drug is not some wonder drug to be thrown at kids. in high school students, there is an extreme increase of the chance he/she will abuse other drugs. in high schools everywhere these drugs are in high demand, and often times are traded for other drugs like marijuana. also this medication can cause severe dry mouth headaches, and while i was on the drug i found it nearly impossible eat. i lost weight very rapidly until one day at school i passed out in the middle of class. Other symptoms were mood swings, and often times i found my self with a very bad temper, along with often suicidal thoughts after a month of use or so. please use this drug with caution.Read More Read Less

I am 54 yrs old and diagnosed at 39 with ADHD. I have past drug abuse issues but have been sober in a 12 step program for 23 yrs. I've tried several stimulant medications over the years and got nothing but an uncomfortable edgy, dry mouth, withdrawn feeling all at the lowest possible dosages. I gave up until my son's doctor told me about Vyvanse and how it is a different delivery system so I gave it a try. At 20mg (new dosage) I felt a slight edginess that went away after a couple of hours and then after a few days went away completely. After about a week I noticed that along with the side effect missing my concentration seemed to wane as well. After talking to the Dr. I tried 2 - 20 mg for 4 days but i was getting the same edginess as I got from the other medications. So I backed down to the 20 mg for a week and then back to the 2 20mg dosages and I can't believe the difference. No side effects. Instead of reading two newspapers as I do every AM in about a 1/2 hour in typical ADD fashion, without even realizing it I look up at the clock and I have been reading for 2 1/2 hrs!!! This has happened several days in a row now. Friends have made comments on how calm I look. That's a first!I am very excited that I have finally found something that works. I am hoping for the best. Now I know what people with ADD talk about when they say life is like looking through a rain soaked window and suddenly the wipers are turned on.Read More Read Less
