Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

The treatment was used for my son, who is in his teens. He became withdrawn, tense, angry, agitated. Changed back to Ritalin, different boy. Never again!

I've been taking this a little bit over a month now, and have noticed a huge change in my moods. I am moodier, depressed, not enjoying the things I once did and even though I was given this due to Chronic Fatigue, I feel even more tired while on the drug. My neurologist stated we should cut the dosage, but I have stopped taking it altogether. I have strong mood swings and can switch moods at the drop of a dine. Would not recommend this medication to anyone. I'd rather be tired without the drug, then tired with the drug. Read More Read Less

Helped me regain control of my binge eating disorder right away. I went from binging 3-5 times per week to maybe once per month. Even during that one binge period per month, I was so much more in control than before and the binges were not nearly as severe and anxiety inducing. Helped me regain control of my life. At the same time, I believe this will only result in permanent changes that allow you to get off the medication eventually if it is coupled with a conscious dedication to therapy as well. I've run out of pills before and noticed that right away, the urge to binge creeps right back up. This is definitely not a cure, but a really incredible tool to help get you started on the right path towards healing yourself. Read More Read Less

I am in my 40s, a college student and have struggled my entire life. I was diagnosed with ADHD and learning disorders a year ago. This medication has helped a great deal with being able to focus and accomplish my tasks and assignments. Before on medication, I was a mess with being able to complete anything, I was emotional about everything. Now, I am able to get through difficult assignments and daily tasks without feeling lost or emotional when I run into something difficult, I just get it done. I do notice half way through the day it seems to wear off, but then kicks back in. I contemplated going up in dose but since I am able to work through my day I believe there is no need. The only side effects I have experiences are dry mouth and some constipation (which only happens when I do not take the medication). I take it most days but when on vacation or on the weekends that I do not have assignments or need to focus a great deal on tasks I do not take it. I just wish there was a generic so it would be more cost effective. Read More Read Less

I'm 23 years old and I've been taking vyvanse for a while now. It's amazing. I'm on 60mg which is pretty high of a dose. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 18 but I was not hyperactive. I basically have ADD. If I could summarize my experience with just a few words it would be: Diarrhea Sweating No Appetite Super energized and MORE POOP. This seriously seems like just a mild version of cocaine in my opinion. It works wonders for making you feel awake... I could sleep 2 hours.. Take a vyvanse and BOOM I'm wide awake.... Just be careful because it's habit forming.Read More Read Less

I am a 23 yr old college student. I had always had ADD symptoms but was not treated until about 4 months ago. I started with a non stimulant, kapvay, but it had little to no effect on me and made me very tired. I then started taking 30mg of vyvanse which made me feel very high and extremely focused the first day I took it but i was used to it by the second or third day. I began experience less and less effect from the 30mg but i was losing weight very quickly. I never lost my appetite and i was eating normally however I was no longer snacking between meals. The second month taking 30mg, I gained back a pound or 2 but the effects only lasted about 2 hours and it was no longer helpful. I was bumped up to 40mg and did not notice any side effects but the drug was still only lasting about 4 hours tops. It still helps me keep to a schedule but staying on task and listening is still very difficult. I would like to increase the dosage but excessive weight loss is still a huge concern. I have not had any issues with anxiety or depression while taking vyvanse, despite having anxiety since I was very young. Read More Read Less

18 year old female taking this medication for help with attention deficit disorders and OCD. went from 10mg to 20mg to 30mg to 40mg and back to 30mg. 40mg helped but caused side effects of emotional numbness and feeling empty, only up side was helping me focus. so i went back to 30mg. its been helping for a while but recently over the past month or so I've noticed it stop working for me in a number of ways. i don't take it on the weekends or some days during the week now because i notice when i do take it it causes me to feel very anxious, very depressed, and empty inside. I feel like I'm.. just there. when i try and do work all i can feel is anxious. i feel like i should always be doing something and when i have nothing to do i feel lost. i can't relax. when i come off the medication i feel very tired but i feel relaxed and have very little anxiety. i don't know what to do so I'm seeing my doctor to see if i should come off it. i feel as if this medication is tearing me apart as I'm picking between my wellbeing and happiness or my academics and productiveness. As a 22 year old, I have used this medication for nearly a year now to treat my so-called "ADD". This medication slowed me down in life. It made me more anti-social and lazy than before while the drug is in effect. After about 3-4 hours of taking it, I get an extreme down and feel tired, lazy, depressed, anti-social and useless. The high is great but lasts only 2-3 hours. But it's definitely NOT worth the negative side-effects. It gives me more mood swings and anxiety. Does it help you concentrate? Sure a little bit, but it's not a miracle drug that heals your concentration problem. I started with 20mg and upped to 50mg. I do not recommend this at all.Read More Read Less

I had been taking concerta XR (time release ritalin) since I was about 9 years old (started at 30mg and was at 90mg at age 23) but I started feeling like it wasn't working and that it was releasing too much at once vs being released a little at a time. My doctor had been talking about Vyvanse for a while but I don't trust anything related to Adderall (Vyvanse is the stimulant part of Adderall) but finally I tried it and IT HAS BEEN WONDERFUL. I don't have weird episodes of no appetite, I sleep better, my mood is more stable (I feel more like myself), and I feel like the medication is consistent. I've never had any negative side effects from any type of ADHD drug (I have the ADHD without hyperactivity - I'm like a zombie honestly) so that might have something to do with it but I really like this drug.Read More Read Less

It legit feels like being super concentrated while being super calm and relaxed all at the same time! It's very easy to focus on tasks, but for me, I am only able to focus when I have interest in something. If I have no interest in a task, I just simply won't do it. Still a great trip! XD

I used it for 3 years, starting my Junior year of College. I had some studying/concentration problems, and some not so good grades before hand, but with the help of 1 pill/day, those things got better. Bad news? I stopped taking it after 3 years because I suffered congestive heart failure as a direct result of it. If it works for you, great, but be sure to get tests on your heart done regularly. I was in the hospital for about 2.5 weeks, and still deal with some after effects because of it 1.5 years later.Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with ADD at 23 but due to anxiety I wasn't able to take it because the effects at first freaked me out. There's an adjustment period where there are common side effects of taking a stimulant- heart rate may change, energy, focus becomes almost surreal. Now at 26 I've been prescribed it again and dealt with the same initial symptoms but now on lexaparo I could handle the first weeks side effects. For the first week I was on 20mg (two tens). I was very sweaty, robotic and fidgety. I began to adjust but it wore off around 2pm. My doc upped me to 30mg. For the first two weeks I had zero appetite. I'm talking no want for food. I was also so productive that food was the last thing on my mind. I'm now 2 months in and on 30mg and I take it in the am. However I've accidentally taken it a few time after 10am. Don't do that. You WILL NOT sleep a wink. Seriously. And it's not enjoyable to take vyvanse the next day on no sleep. So the general adjustment side effects are gone- and I'm certainly more productive and focused. In that case it works. But when they tell you that you MIGHT lose weight? Expect to lose it. And keep losing it. And unless you are overweight it is NOT a blessing. Im a foodie and at 5'1" I weighed 117. Two months later I weigh 103. That is no Bueno since my weight is a reflection of my health. I've spent the past week trying to pack on healthy fats and more meals but can't even exercise out of fear of additional weight loss. Despite my increased caloric and fat intake- I'm still losing. Considering going off of vyvanse out of fear of progressive weight loss. Read More Read Less

In 2004 I was prescribed Cymbalta 60mg to 90mg for depression and anxiety. It helped with anxiety but not depression symptoms i.e. constant fatigue, difficulty concentrating, etc.... which adversely affected my ability to function normally. In 2013 my MD left and my MD prescribed Vyvanse 70mg in addition to Cymbalta. Vyvanse helped with fatigue but it plateaued quickly (30-60 days). Over the next few months my dosage increased to 140mg. Fatigue became a non-issue and I lost 40 pounds due to reduced eating but it created serious problems with sleep, focus and execution which further impaired my ability to work and function. Just prior to starting Vyvanse I began grad school online and had completed two courses (A grade for each) and had withdrawn from one course due to fatigue. When I returned I was taking Vyvanse 140mg and was so hyper-focused that I would spend numerous hours online researching data for an assignment or paper, sometimes through the night until the next morning, when it should have taken only 30-60 minutes. I just couldn't stop looking for more info, jumping from article to article and opening windows until my computer crashed. When I tried to write a report or even a simple email, I would re-read and revise for hours while jumping back and forth from the source data. I couldn’t compete anything (school work, home projects, job search, etc…). Eventually, I withdrew from graduate school because I just couldn’t keep on track. I also experienced severe dry mouth as well as constant clenching of my teeth which caused significant jaw and dental problems. I told my MD about my concerns with hyper-focus and clenching and he suggested that perhaps I needed a higher dosage! Now, I've been unemployed for 3 years and have just lost my health insurance. I'm looking for affordable RX coverage and new a doctor who will take the time to work with me to find the correct medication(s) and dosage(s) that will help me get back to being productive.Read More Read Less

This medicine works wonders for my concentration and memory, but it makes me terribly depressed and moody. I've had straight A's since begging this medicine, but am wondering if it's worth the side effects.

I have been taking this medication for 8 years, at first it worked great, heck, it still works great. However, it caused me to be depressed, I developed anxiety, hand tremors, severe insomnia, and many other negative things. I would not recommend this to anyone. The negatives outweigh the positives.

I was prescribed this medicine approx 4 years ago by a psychiatrist for ADHD. I started at 30 mg, but within the past year, my doc and I decided 40mg would be more effective. Little side effects. I also have chronic insomnia, so I take this drug early in the am. My only complaint is that the pharmaceutical company still does not have a generic for this drug, and it is VERY expensive!

I have been on it for about 6 months. It has helped my binge eating, given me energy I haven't had to exercise, and helped me feel like I could have control again. Miracle drug. Insurance co. declined to pay for it for two months, had to discontinue and my dr. helped me fight to get back on it. In between, I realized just how much it did help. I felt out of control once again. I am back on and feeling much better. I also have ADD and it gives me back my focus too.

I took it for about 4 months for BED and it worked very well at 60mg a day, but I had horrible dry mouth as a side effect and decide to wean off of it. I have now been off of it for about 6 weeks and my binge eating is out of control again and I am going back on the med. The med allows you to feel like you are in control but when you stop you realize you are not. I will just suffer through the dry mouth I guess because the benefits out weigh the side effects by far.
