Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I’ve noticed that some other people have experienced twitching as a side-effect in themselves or their child. My son has experienced this as well. When I spoke to his pediatrician about this she told me “I wouldn’t worry about it, he probably would have developed that anyway without the drug.” Huh?!!! He didn’t have this twitch before...not a twitch, and ever since he’s been on the medication he twitches up a storm in his left eye. Needless to say I was NOT happy with her response. So, I decided to research into other possible reasons for twitching in my son and discovered that magnesium deficiencies can also lead to twitching, and calcium is an antagonist for magnesium. My son happens to drink milk like it’s going out of style so he gets more than enough calcium…but it led me to thinking. If calcium is an antagonist for magnesium, perhaps this medication could be as well…which is exacerbating the deficiency making it more prevalent which leads to the twitching. So I decided to try something. Each morning I give my son approximately 1/4 cup of nuts to munch on (almonds, peanuts, brazil nuts, even pumpkin seeds, they are high in magnesium)…while I fix his breakfast (he always wants something quick to eat while I’m cooking). I’ve noticed that since I’ve begun doing that….his twitching has TOTALLY disappeared. This also worked very quickly. One day he was twitching up a storm by that afternoon he had stopped and I haven't noticed a twitch since. Give it a try, it worked for me. I absolutely could not accept that my son was going to have to live with this twitching and could not accept the Dr's answer to it...I KNEW there had to be something that could be done for him. My doctor has prescribed Vyanese for me. I was on 50 mgs. but he is increasing my dose to 70 mgs. It is alot smoother than other medications, I have been on. I have been on dexedrine, adderal, etc. My sleeping is never affected by an medication. This is the only medication that has decreased my appetite some what (wish it would decrease it alot). I take it in the morning and I don't find that it holds me all day. I am talking about 9:00 p.m. or so. I have inattentive ADHD, plus I think impulsivity. I don't realize or have not been aware of me not losing things or misplacing them. This could be because I have so much clutter in my house, which makes me insane. The more I throw out, the worse it seems to get. Also I have left jackets on chairs, and usually someone asks me if it is mine. I would like to know what others think of this medication. Is this medication for people who have hyperactive ADHD only. Read More Read Less

The Dr. gave this to my 5yr. old grandson, I didn't want to start him on it during school, so I waited till weekend. THANK GOD! He didn't stop talking for 10 hours...didn't sleep for about 38 hours..I thought I would go crazy! He won't be taking it again. He did say it made him feel like a brand new person...I think the child was speeding....

My son is 6 yrs old and has been taking vyvanse for less than a month. It seems to be working ok in school, but when he comes home I find him to look and act very sad. I find myself constantly asking "what's wrong"? I'm just not used to seeing him look so sad. He's normally very happy and loving. I'm going to have a talk with the doctor today to see what we can do if anything.

I have been taking this medication since March of this past year and I have noticed a HUGE difference in my ADHD. I was previously on Straterra because my doctor didn't want to put me on a stimulant. That's because I have epilepsy and a stimulant might cause me to have a seizure. However, I have been seizure free while I've been on Vyvanse. The first day I took it I didn't sleep that night but that might also be because I have a sleep disorder. My doctor thought that Vyvanse might be a good choice for me since Straterra wasn't working. Vyvanse is similar to Adderral but it causes the reaction needed to treat the ADHD to release at different times. It's not like adderral XR because it works through a specific enzyme that is not always available to catylize the reaction. So it lasts longer than Adderral and Adderral XR. I have been able to focus my attention on the tasks I need to focus on much better now but not perfect because I also have OCD. I still move a lot but not as much as I used to so it has made it easier for others to be around me. I highly recommend this medication.Read More Read Less

This was prescribed to supplement Effexor for depression/anxiety. Main side effect has been compulsive grinding of teeth. The original uplift it gave me has deteriorated over the last couple months. Get a brief mood elevation and then eventually crash. Hyper behavior. Have been on it for less than a year. Will definitely need to stop it.

My grandson age 6 has been on Vyvanse for over a year now. He was on Straterra which worked for him at first then he was having the same old behaviors. He Dr prescribed Vyvanse and he has done very well. He was most improved student last year in Kindergarten and is off to a good start this year in 1st grade. Some moodiness and not much appetite during the day but he eats good in the evenings. His teachers and his family are truly impressed and excited about the changes in him.

My 15 year old nephew took this medication for only 7 days. He extreme ADHA. After 5 days he started have major heart palpitions, bizzarre behavior at home and school. It would take me hours to calm him down. He would move big iceboxes around outside. He could not sleep at night. He would wander everywhere. We have 5 acres and I know at night he wander every inch. He started fires, started stealing, and his sex drive went up 500%. Contacted the doctor and all they did was to reduce his dose. Within 2 days the same reaction. He was totally uncontrolable. He is now in a rehab. No he was not on any other drugs. This was a good kid somewhat slow. Be very careful who you give this medication too!!!!Read More Read Less

My 10 year old daughter has been on 3 different types of medication for her ADHD. We have recently tried this new medication. Her teachers and resource providers are amazed with how she is now responding in class. She is sleeping very well and just a complete joy to be around. She will also give the medication great review. It does not make her feel "funny" and she can "focus" so much better. She stated she feels more like a "normal" kid. I do hope this sustains its effectiveness.

Vyvanse changed my life. I would get 8 to 15 hours of sleep at night and I would still fall asleep during the day. I spent all my free time in bed. I had sleep studies done, blood work, thyroid checked and doctors couldnt find anything wrong with me. Started Vyvanse, I am very focused during the day. Get all tasks completed. Better mom to my daughter. Changed my life completely. Only side effect I have is dry mouth.

I have tried several prominent ADD/ADHD medications: Adderall, Focalin XR, generic Ritalin, Straterra. I am so incredibly pleased with Vyvanse that I will never take anything else to treat my adult ADD. There is no "going up" or "coming down" on or off the drug. It works so gradually that you never have to ride this rollercoaster than I had to endure daily. By the time it wears off it has done it so gradually that you don't even realize it. I felt more mentally organized than I did with Focalin XR as well. I was able to drink coffee with my chest pounding and heart racing rapidly.Read More Read Less

This medication is working very well for my son, who is seven and has ADHD - hyperactivity and impulsivity type. We were against meds and took many approaches. But our son was still struggling with impulsive behaviors, i.e. hitting, getting out of bus seat, etc., which was problematic. We finally got to the point where we believed it was extremely difficult for him to control some behaviors, which is when we turned to the meds. We tried Concerta, but it gave my son horrible side effects and kept him up until 3 a.m. I can see why some parents get scared and say, “Never again,” but I know that every kid reacts differently to every med. We then tried Adderall, which worked but made my son moody during the day and he became very hyper and emotional in coming off of it at night. Finally, we tried Vyvanse. Our son has been on it for six months. He does not have any problems “coming off” of it; it is more gradual and effective throughout the day. However, after a couple of months we noticed it was making him moody and almost changing his personality. Our child psychiatrist suggested supplementing it with Zoloft, an anti-depressant. We immediately were skeptical, esp. upon hearing all of the FDA warnings about children and anti-depressants. But I did some research and we decided to give it a try. We are so glad we made this decision. The Zoloft, which my son has been on for three months, has returned his personality. He is the same happy kid we knew and love, minus the ADHD symptoms. My son is excelling at school and I’m not getting daily calls from the principal. It has been a blessing so far. The only bad side effect is decreased appetite. I never thought I’d turn to medication, but I am glad I did. I feel the benefits are too great. My son feels good about himself and others are seeing him as the good and smart kid we know him to be. Different approaches, meds, etc. work for different situations. Don't give up, good luck!Read More Read Less

After dealing with ADHD my entire life I decided to give this medicine a try after my doctor raved that it was the new "wonder drug". It worked great for the first fews weeks. Then I noticed that it wore off 5-6 hours after taking it. The doctor adjusted the dosages several times and it got worse. The drug worked fantastic for focusing and getting a lot of work done but it was not worth the side effects. The mood swings and the aggression got very bad. It totally changed my normally very gentle personality to a very angry person. I finally decide to go off of the drug when I noticed a bruise and cut on my fiance's arm and asked him what happened (he works out often and is very strong) he very hesitantly told me I hit him several times throughout the night when I was sleeping and used such foul language that he was very scared. It took me several minutes to believe him because I thought he was joking with me but the look on his face told me he was not. I was horrified and felt terrible that I had done that to him. I did not remember a thing in fact I thought I was sleeping good. From the information that I have read and studied, this medication works better for children than adults. It has only been approved for adults since April of this year. Be very careful with this drug. It can make you violent and turn you into a different person!!Read More Read Less

I switched from Adderall to Vyvanse and love it. Although it seems like it does not last as long, the side effects are nominal if any at all. I am a lot calmer and can accomplish daily tasks. I still take adderall non-xr to help with studying but overall, I really like Vyvanse.
