Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

Our 10 year old with ADHD had a honeymoon on Focalin XR, but after about 2 years it became less effective, so we tried Vyvanse. I looked up in my log to see that he had tried Adderall before, but that it made him very moody and irritable, with evening episodes leading to ripping sheets, etc, so I was concerned to say the least, but assured that the slow release has effectively helped with the mood swings many experienced on Adderall. Sadly, after almost 4 months on it, we are going back to Focalin. His mood swings, obsessive behavior and anxiety have increased so badly that he had a 5 hour episode tonight, and ODD episodes almost daily. Prior to Vyvanse they were "only" every couple of weeks. It's so hard to know if the drug is causing or exacerbating a condition, but there's no question that he is a different kid on this drug. During the day, at school, he has been fantastic, but when it wears off he is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Too much for him, and for us. Good luck to all of you, and remember it's harder for them than it is for us!Read More Read Less

Although I recently started on Vyvanse, on the 9th day, I fainted at work and no memory of the fall. Thankfully I was sitting at desk, but recevied cuts and sratches and cuts on my arms, neck, ear lobes and left hand fingers. I had better results with adderall XR, so I will be calling my Doctor today.

My son was just diagnosed with ADD, this is his first med. The first day he took this he didn't fall asleep until after 4 a.m and was awake by 8a.m. the next morning. The Dr. told me to try it for three consecutive days on him. By the second day, he was argumentative anymore, schoolwork was a breeze and he was very excited about doing his work. Behavior was better. He slept as normal. He still had some of the side affects such as no appetite and belly ache, but was tapering off by the second day as well. Most of the time if a medication doesn't work or their is severe reaction it indicates that the patient does not have ADD or ADHD or there can be an allergic reaction, these reactions cannot be helped. I highly recommend this drug it has done wanders for my son.Read More Read Less

I have been treated for sleep apnea with CPAP, but continued to experience excessive daytime sleepiness, plus loss of focus and motivation. Could not get organized. Saw a doctor who correctly diagnosed me, I think. Started on Vyvanse with Bupropion XL. Immediate favorable results. I started on Adderall 2x day, but my alertness was dose-dependant. I was skeptical of switching to Vyvanse, but I immediately noticed a vast difference. A very, very transparent mental effect. Not something I feel in my head. I have been totally amazed that for the first time in years I am able to stay awake and functional during the entire day. Remarkable improvement. I thought they were just repackaging their adderall formula, but in my opinion this is essentially a totally different drug in terms of effectiveness. After 3 months on Vyvanse, I have experienced dry mouth occassionally. Seems like a few times a week I'll have a sudden feeling like I want to throw up, but it passes without event. I think it may contribute to constipation negative sexual side effects which I didn't get with the buprupion alone. I paln to discuss that with my doc. It probably has some impact on the part of the nervous system which affects those body functions. Combined with the XL, my grave depression has also been alleviated and I am not using the CPAP anymore. Simply amazing. I am not a shill for Shire. I see some comments that make me wonder. But I'm just a patient getting well. Read More Read Less

Prescribed at age 21 because the dose of I needed to derive any benefit out of Concerta also made me very sweaty and extremely anxious. While I still experience sweating - it's worse in the winter because it makes me so cold!! - clamminess and a little more edginess than I would without medication, it helped me have a great senior year of college. I also don't have as much difficulty sleeping as I did on Concerta.

I started Vyvanse about a month ago and, it has really worked for me so far. The only major problem that I had was not being able to sleep so, I solved that with Tylenol PM before bedtime and it helps me a lot. I have also lost around 10-12 pounds since I have started the med. I really like this drug and it is easy to use and works wonders!!

Listen, Vyvanse is not going to be the same for everyone that takes it. First of all, not every child that is hyper-active has ADHD. I love the people on here that think that just because a medication doesn't work for them, it must not be effective for anyone else. I started taking Vyvanse about two months ago and could tell the difference right away. I am a full-time student and work part-time. I never understood why I never cared about anything or why I couldn't do things like most people could. I believe now that it is something to do with my brain chemistry and not just because I am lazy or unmotivated. I think I felt almost scared to try new things or to give my best, when I always knew that I would lose interest or give up out of frustration. Vyvanse has helped me to regain an interest in playing music, which is what I love to do. I also have an interest in things the way I used to. The side effects are a huge loss of apetite. I have to tell myself to eat. Also it will keep you up at night if you take it too late. I am interested to see how it works after a few months down the road when my body gets used to it. I think it's worth a shot if you have ADD or ADHD. Just because it works good for me or doesn't work for someone else pretty much means nothing. Everyone is different and has different circumstances.Read More Read Less

It worked for my daughter at first, after 3 weeks her mood got worse as each week passed.Untill the end when she was anxious, angry, easily agitated, and throwing long tantrums. She began to beleve things that wernt true and was hard to be around, she was out of control. This was far from the loving, kind, happy child she was before the meds. This was the worst time in our lives to date. This med was very BAD!!!!! for her

My 10 year old son tried for 3 months. It made him irritable and obbessive. His pediatrician's view is that we cann't tolerate minor side effects of the medicine. Since when did changing your child's personality become minor? We have taken him off meds for now.

so i started taking vyvanse and was very pleased with the results. it isnt as gripping as adderall and doesnt have that initial rush. I thought it wasnt working bc i remember what adderall felt like. I noticed that i was in control of what i wanted to do and whenever i was doing homework or whatever i wsa trying to do i was focused and could complete things. With adderall it was like serious "gotta do something" and i was OCD about stuff. Vyvanse doesnt do that. Also my mood was elevated on vyvanse and i am soo easygoing. Adderall increased my anger and esp. road rage. However i couldnt get my refill of vyvanse one month and i had to leave work it was so terrible. I was tired and was sooo just pissed off. I felt crazy for it like i needed it badly. I found myself blurting out things that i wanted to keep to myself a couple times. mostly becuase i was so irritated. On vyvanse ive noticed that i grind my teeth and my jaws hurt constantly. I quit cold turkey on adderall 25 mg and never experienced withdraws like that. I was tired that was it. The withdraw from vyvanse made me scared to take it again cuz i never want to be so dependent and feel like that ever again. However i still am because there is prescription assistance with vyvanse and not with adderall. I dont know which is "worse" to take. Read More Read Less

I have suffered from ADD my entire life. I was diagnosed as a child, but was never medicated. I finally sought treatment as 26 year old several weeks ago. My doctor prescribed 50mg of Vyvanse. So far... the pros and cons... pros: I am much more focused and can stay on task with ease, motivation is definitely increased. Things that I would typically avoid because I felt overwhelmed before I even began, are now manageable. I feel less worried, less anxiety. My thinking is much more focused and clear; conversations are easier. Now for the cons: this medication has majorly decreased my apetite. My doctor said it "may" decrease my apetite a "little" but to be honest, I have almost NO apetite at all. Even when the medication has worn off, by the evening, I am usually not that hungry. The first week was the worst. I have gradually gained some of my apetite back. Cotton mouth is another one; but, this too has improved. I did have difficulty sleeping the first couple of days. I woke up feeling exhausted every morning at first - never felt like my body got into that deep sleep that leaves you feeling rested. This has improved as well. A new side "effect" that I did not experience at first -- what I would call a "flat" mood where I felt almost robotic in my actions. It was almost a depressed, sad feeling and it was awful. It went away both times but left me wondering whether the medicine was worth it. Overall, I do believe this medication is effective for those of us who cannot focus on work or school and it definitely works - the question is whether the side effects are worth it. I will continue with Vyvanse until my next dr's appt. I plan on discussing my concerns with my doctor and taking it from there. Hope this helps! Read More Read Less

this medication does work, however, my son's mood has become very flat, with feelings of sadness that he did not experience with adderall xr. We will place him back on the adderall as soon as we see the doctor again. He was placed on 30mg vyvanse, he was taking 15mg adderall XR, he weighs 85lbs. and is 9yrs old. I do not want to change his personality, just assist him at school, maybe the 30mg dose is just too big a jump, I did hear they are bridging the gap with 20mg. dosaging. Also, it's much more expensive. I know the patent for the adderall xr runs out in 2009, so Shire will be attempting to place people on vyvance to keep the $$$ coming.Read More Read Less

My 8 year old daughter has been taking Vyvanse for one month. Since that time her grades have gone from C's & D's to A's. Her teacher says she is a different child. This is our first medication for ADHD. I wish we would have thought of this sooner. After reading the reviews on Vyvanse, I am concerned about side effects and will be watching her closely.
