Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this drug. I have taken medicine for ADD since elementary school (Ritalin then Adderall) now I take 40mg of Vyvanse every morning (I've been on it for about 6 months now). I had a hard time finding a pharmacy that carried my dosage and in fact no pharmacy in my area carried it so I had to wait for them to order it. But, after the first month, now they carry it so I don't have to wait for them to order it. Side effect wise, I think it is MUCH better than Adderall. I am still focused but I actually have a personality. I always felt like Adderall made me a zombie and I guess Vyvanse does that slightly but definitely not to the level Adderall did. Also, with Adderall I could tell as soon as it started working and likewise as soon as it stopped working. I feel like Vyvanse is a lot smoother--no headaches every afternoon like w/ Adderall. I have lost a lot of weight though, which I don't mind but I recognize is not healthy. I have no appetite after I take it, so I try to eat a large breakfast. I am glad to read on here I'm not the only one that now has trouble putting sentences together--I can never find the word I am looking for, I feel like I stumble w/ my words a lot more now. I also have trouble w/ falling asleep/staying asleep but I had the same problem w/ Adderall as well. While Vyvanse doesn't work as intensely or as long as Adderall, I think the side effects are a lot easier to deal with and I do not foresee ever going back to Adderall. Read More Read Less

My 6 year old son started taking Vyvanse 3 months ago.The doctor has adjusted his dose twice, but it seems to have lost its effect on my son. Not only has he gone back to being extremely unfocused and hyper, but now he is also very angry at any little thing and looks to hit my 11 year old daughter often. This process of medication adjustment is torture for families that have to go through it. I feel so bad for my son. He's so little and doesnt understand whats happening to him. We went back to the doctor today and the doctor has prescribed him focalin. Lets see how this works out now.Read More Read Less

My 16 year old son was on Vyvanse 20mg for his ADHD and had a terrible reaction. Yesterday, he became depressed and had real thoughts of suicide. This was a child who had never had a sad day in his life. This was our 1st ADHD drug, and our last. I would rather have my C&D son back, than a depressed A&B child. Also, when I called the Dr. she stated that this was not a side effect of the meds, but when I researched on WEmd it is a clear severe reaction and is seen in less than 1% of patients, but that is 1% to much!!! She called later that night to check on my son and told me that she had talked to the drug rep and his staff dr. and they said they had seen this very same side effect, but if "USUALLY" only presents itself with a strong family history of bipolar disorder. No one in our family is bipolar or had mental health issues. Please take this warning and do your research yourself, I trusted our dr. and she had to call a DRUG REP to verify my son's side effect. I just hope and pray that I get my son back, just the same he was a couple weeks ago. Read More Read Less

My son took this drug for about 6 months over the winter. When spring arrived he had a bug phobia. he stopped going outside at all. He said that the bugs looked giant size. We took him off of it and the phobia went away. We changed him to Stratera.

Vyvanc helped me concentrate better when I first started taking it in March 2008. However, I don't feel that it is working as well anymore. I am unable to stay on task and concentrate on one thing at a time.

I HAVE BEEN ON THIS MED FOR 1 YEAR. I LOVE IT. IT KEEPS ME FOCUSED,AND MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION,INSTEAD OF ALL OVER THE PLACE. I FALL ASLEEP AT NIGHT{ WITH NO PROBLEM}.I LIKE IT WAY BETTER THEN ADDERALL.I'M ON 70 MG.I LIKE IT BECAUSE THERE IS NO UP AND DOWN FEELING{ LIKE ADDERALL CAN MAKE YOU FEEL} WITH THIS I STAY THE SAME, FOCUSED ALL DAY.ALSO I'M IN RECOVERY AND I DON'T GO CRAZY ABOUT BEING ON THIS. IT MAKES MY LIFE AND OTHER PEOPLES LIVES AROUND ME EASIER.MOST PEOPLE HAVE NOTICED THE DIFFERANCE IN ME AND SAY IT DIF FOR THE BETTER. I WAS NOT SURE IF I WAS GOING TO TRY THIS,BUT I THOUGHT WHY NOT, WHAT IS THE WORST,I HATE IT AND GO BACK ON ADDERALL.ALSO CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE COMP FIRST TO SEE IF THEY COVER THIS MED, NOT ALL DO. PLUS IT COST MORE THEN ADDERALL. BUT FOR ME IT IS WORTH IT!Read More Read Less

I changed my 9 year old son's meds from Adderall, 2x's per day(not XR) due to an issue with taking it during school, about 3 months ago and he is now taking Vyvanse 40mg. He had been taking Adderall for 3+ years and doing great. Since taking Vyvanse, he has showed some minor problems with school work and the medication does wear off quicker than adderall. He has also shown some significant mood swings in the evening and does not sleep as well. He has always taken clonidine at night and has never had any problems going to sleep with the clonidine, until now. The doctor has recommended keeping him on Vyvanse because it is a 'cleaner' safer medication than Adderall. So far, I'm not very impressed with the medication. Read More Read Less

My g-daughter is 8 years old and is being treated with vyvanse. it helps her alot in school. We do notice that she has a bad attitude about every other day, talking back, just a no care attitude. I do not know if this is because of the medicine. she also does not not go to bed very good anymore. but of the results she has in school it is worth it. I just wish she was still easier to get along with. thanks

my 6 year old son is on 50mg of vyvanse, I call this the wonder drug! this child has been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, depression and adhd, so this is only 1 of the 3 pills he takes a day, but what a difference it has made, he is no longer swinging off the walls, throwing things, telling people off, picking on other kids and trying to hurt them, and he is sitting still, and using his energy in a much better way, and this kid is smart as ever, if I miss one dose of this medicine, I know it right off the bat, and so does his teacher! so hooray for vyvanse!!!!Read More Read Less

I am a 22 year old nursing student in my last 8 months of college. Many professors have pulled me aside and asked if I had ever seen a physician for ADHD. I always just replied that stress and anxiety were my problems. Finally, I decided to see a physician one month ago. He started me on the 50mg at first. I was able to sit and complete all my work, but I still noticed I could get distracted very easy. During my checkup he prescribed the 70mg dose. This medication has been very successful for me. I sometimes find it hard to sleep at night, but I am more able to get up in the morning. I also have a dry mouth throughout the day which goes away with increasing my fluids daily. Talking with your physician and working with them during the first few months of figuring which dose is correct for you would be the best advice I could give anyone wanting to try this medication.Read More Read Less
