Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I was started on this medication when I was 17, and have only good things to say about it. Pilots beware! I was denied a medical certificate for using the medication. Now I have to go through a series of 10 psychological evaluations and a mess of red tape to prove that I am fit to fly.

This is a great drug as a combatant to sleep inducing meds, and actual ADD. I metabolize medications that are time release too fast, but because Vyvanse has a very different release system, I've been able get a good amount of hours out of this, where as the highest doses of Concerta, Metadate, and other ADHD drugs go through my system too fast. I'd recomend it to anyone, beware of insomnia.. I had it anyways way way way before any meds. So! No jitters, good hours! but.. expensive

I am a 37 year old woman who was diagnosed but never treated for ADHD as a child/teen. I have gotten (or thought) I had gotten really good at managing all of my issues and have never been medicated with stimulants. I have tried everything from therapy to exercise to pot to cough medicine to quiet my thoughts and worry and constant list making, irritability and self loathing. Yesterday, with the push from my medical doctor, I saw a psychiatrist who thought I might benefit from an ADD drug. I was overwhelmed with emotion thinking that there actually might be a drug that can help me. Today, I took my first dose. I am not noticing much of a difference except my heart is racing a little more, but I will update my review as I see what happens. I was given a 30mg dose to start with.Read More Read Less

considering this med, I've tried Adderall didn't like the side effects, especially when I was coming off of it,talk about having mood swings. Also Focalin, concerta, wellbutrin, no luck.. Right now I'm on Effexor XR I decided upon myself to ween myself off, as well for Wellbutrin. I see the Doc next week, and I hope we I'll be able to try Vyvanse...tired of being frustrated

I am disappointed with the Vivance as well as the dr. who prescribed it to my granddaughter. I read somewhere where the dr. should take an ekg before prescribing it. He never did and she had a fainting episode. She then wore a heart monitor and her rate at times was in the 160's. he thought it was due to the vivance and had her wait two weeks and wear a heart monitor again. Well the second time it went into the 170's. the vivance was completely out of her system. Evidently, she has a sinus tachycardia of some kind and the vivance probably made her heart beat wildily - I am assuming over 200 bpm being she fainted. She is off the drug now and going to a cardiologist. I warn all parents of children beginning to take vivance to have at least an ekg done on their sons and daughters or even request a 24 hour monitor before they begin taking it. This drug exacerbates other heart problems.Read More Read Less

To the caregiver of "7 year old son has been on this for 4 months"; I have been reading the reviews of this drug since my 8 year old daughter starting taking 10mg in October 2008. She is still doing great in school and I think Vyvanse is great. She did lose weight and still doesn't eat very much at all. We don't take her off the medication on weekends because she had more trouble with tummy pain when she would start it again on Monday morning. Maybe a lower dose would help.

Side Effects follow-up to my previous post on 6/16/08 at 1:54 am: One thing I continuously have read in Vyvanse user posts is about dry mouth. I have a great smile and am probably a little more attentive to my oral hygiene than most: 2x/yr in the dentist's office for a check-up along with flossing and brushing multiple times a day. So I couldn't believe what I just found out today!!! Be very aware about the dry mouth and dehydration because since my last check up 8 months ago, two teeth have decayed (on opposite sides of my mouth) so quickly and badly that they will have to be extracted. Awesome. Just wanted to share the good news, along with the long term side effects... Wish Shire would pay my dental bill and pay for two teeth bridges. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER! (Avoid the sodas, juices, teas and coffees and save your smile!)Read More Read Less

I'm an 18 year old student with ADHD. 2 months ago, I was switched from 10 mg Adderall twice a day to 50 mg Vyvanse (to be taken once a day). While I have noticed an incredible increase in my ability to focus and a general feeling of clarity with regard to my state of mind on the meds, my Vyvanse experience has included some unbearable side effects. I am NEVER hungry while on the drug. Actually, it's like an anti-hungry feeling--I can't even force myself to finish what I would usually consider to be a really good meal. I also feel "empty" at the end of the day, like my mind's been on overdrive and my capacity to experience a normal range of emotions has been stunted. It's a weird antisocial kind of feeling that's hard to describe. I've also had a few frustrating meltdowns where I cried for no apparent reason. The dry-mouth is also nasty but that can be dealt with. I'm getting switched back to Adderall because the Vyvanse just has too intense of an effect for me. I love the feeling of mental clarity and focusing ability that it gives me, but it's not worth the near-depression I get into when it wears off. Read More Read Less

My 7 year old son has been on this for 4 months. We started out with 30 mg and just lowered the dosage to 20 mg last week. We are still waiting to see if it will help. Over the past few months his side effects have changed- at first he wasn't eating or sleeping well. We moved his bedtimne back an hour and that seemed to help. We don't give him the meds on the weekends so will want to eat more. I hate the way he has lost weight and looks so skinny and fragile. The worst part are the withdrawls he experiences every day. Some days are better than others- but everything is very dramatic. He is on an emotional roller-coaster most of the time and he doesn't know how to feel about anything, or to communicate. We're hoping the lower dosage helps curb some of the emotional highs and lows and maybe he'll start to eat more. I need advice, please help. I'd rather take him off the meds than continue drugging him up everyday. He's doing great in school but I'm not sure it's worth it.Read More Read Less

My son has developed a tick on this drug over the past few months. He has been on it for about a year. He started complaining about his neck hurting and then he started jerking his head to the left and then the right. He is on 60mg. We are currently off all meds waiting for everything to get out of his system to see what to start next. We have tried Concerta and Adderall as well.

My 11-year-old daughter was recently diagnosed with ADD-inattentive, and we just started treatment. We tried Ritalin SR and that was a disaster. Weepy, irritable and depressed. First day on Vyvanse--30 mg--she said "I love these meds" Focus was wonderful; never seen anything like it. Side effects include dry mouth, pale, insomnia and appetite reduction. She's also grumpy around 4:00 p.m. The reduced dose, at 20 mg., has completely eliminated everything but the dry mouth. But...she's on spring break so not sure how the reduced dose will help schoolwork. I'll keep you posted! Read More Read Less

I am a 37 year old adult with bi-polar disorder and my doctor placed me on Vyvance. I guess it has been about 7-8 months now. The feeling I get from it is hard to describe. The way I would put it is that it just makes the day easier. I don't get frustrated or fed up as I did before. I was one who went down the road of trying a good many meds before this one. I am also on Lamictal for the bi-polar and I have no side effects from that. The side affects that I have experienced on Vyvance are an occasional shaking of the hands, a very common lack of appetite and rarely a kind of double vision (though my doctor thinks that is a side effect of stress not the Vyvance; who knows but I thought I should share that). The shaking of the hands is not to the point that it keeps me from doing anything but I do think people would notice if I kept them out there. So when that happens, I kind of keep my hands out of view. However, and one of the main reasons I decided to post, is that taking Vyvance on an empty stomach will flat out rock your world and I mean that in the absolute worse way. Taking my meds has gone on long enough that taking them every day is part of my routine in the morning but sometimes I get rushed in the morning and either forget to eat or say, “I will get something at the office or somewhere else” later on. Terrible decision. Taking Vyvance on an empty stomach makes me dizzy, some what disoriented and makes me gag, like having the dry heaves (I think that is how it is spelled; gag reflex even though I have not obviously not eaten anything). The problem with the gagging is that it makes you not want to eat anything because you feel like you might throw it back up. So that becomes a problem in itself. So the only thing I have found that works for me is to simply lay down and ride it out which of course is a no fun. For me it seems to last for about 15-20 minutes (I time it), with the symptoms going away at different times through out. Just passing that on.Read More Read Less

I've been taking medication for ADD for about 11 years. I've taken Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta and I hated them all. I found that Adderall was uncomfortable to swallow, Ritalin didn't last long enough, and Concerta made me feel like a zombie. Vyvanse is the first ADD medication that allows me to feel like myself, only focused. It's a wonderful drug, and I'm so grateful to have found it.

Although this medication has seemed to work for my daughter for impulsiveness and concentration, she developed urine frequency (severe)her pediatrician treated her with ten days of bactrim and it still didn't cure the problem. The peditrician doesn't seem to think that the drug is the problem. She also takes pulmicort for asthma/wal-zyer for allergies. Now i'm reading the list "infrequent but severe" side effects and it lists urinary tract infections. Can someone please let me know if they have had this happen too. She goes about 4-5 times per hour even when she doesn't have to because the urgency is there still.Read More Read Less
