Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I gave this to my 4 year old who has ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder. This is the first drug I have ever givin him like this. It seemed to be working until about 3 hours after he took it. He was starting to have shaky, jerky movements. He started talking nonstop for three hours. He played his legos for 11 hours strait that day. I need him to focus but not like that! I was very frieghtened and scared. I called our pedi and she told me NEVER to give it to him again and to flush the rest down the toilet. That night he only slept for 3 hours. Our pedi said stimulant drugs are not for him at all and we will try Strattera in a few days. It may work for some but it was very scary and dangerous for our son.Read More Read Less

My daughter is 14 and we switched from Adderall Xr to Vyvanse. She has been on vyvanse over a month now, so far so good. She was so ill coming off the adderall. Vyvanse has made a big difference in her grades and at home. My daughter can't swallow a capsule, so pouring the "white powder" in water is so great. She can't even taste it. Keeping my hopes up that we have found something that really works great. Just wish the insurance co. would pay more.

my 6 year old son started this medication about a month and half ago....so far so good. He has severe ADHD and takes his meds without stopping on weekends and holidays. He takes his about 7 am and it last until 7-8 pm which lets him focus on his HW, swimming, and T-ball as well as his school work. He is taking the 50mg dose. He was on Adderal XR, but it wore off right before school was out. We have not had the side effect of no sleep, but he has to take it with food or he does complain of stomach ache. He has had a few headaches but nothing major. Read More Read Less

MY SON IS 12 AND TAKES VYVANSE FOR ADHD WORKS GREAT, SOMETIME HE HAS MOOD SWING ( NOT BAD) BUT HE WENT FROM D'S AND F'S TO A'S AND B'S IN ONE GRADING PEROID ( NO LIE). WE ARE VERY HAPPY W/ THE RESULTS, BUT WE DID FIND OUT THAT ALOT OF THE INSURANCE COMPANIES WILL NOT PAY FOR ANY OF THIS MED, WHICH REALLY STINKS.....

I gave my 5-year-old son his first Vyvanse this morning before school. He got off the bus an hour ago and had talked incessantly ever since, his eyes are wide open, and he is making these constant smacking sounds with his mouth. He is not my little boy and he will not be getting another dose.

My son is ADHD and I am ADD. We have both been on Vyvanse 70mg for me and 30mg for him for almost a yr. We changed from Adderall XR because the evening "let-down" was horrible. And the vyvanse was suppose to be much smoother coming off. The vyvanse lasts longer and doesn't make me irritable in the evenings. My son on the hand is not doing so good on it now. We switched him from 30mg to 40mg just recently because his teachers said he was wandering and was having a very hard time focusing. We both have issues sleeping at night. He has had these night terrors since he was an infant. He might go 2 wks with out one even now. Since we changed his dose to 30mg he has had them every night for the past 3 or four weeks. We are going to see a sleep specialist but for now no one is sleeping. We are going to switch him to also try focalin XR and see what happens. He also has put on weight with this medication and that hasn't helped his self confidence at all. So he is an 8yr old boy that thinks he's fat and doesn't sleep. He has only said this to me a few times but I can see it in his face and he wants all his shirts really big and loose fitting.I just want him to be a "happy" eight yr old boy that laughs and plays with friends. So just notice them when you switch meds if your child doesn't have the same "personality" on these meds as they would normally then they either are overdosed which is the "dopy" look on their face or they fall asleep, which means that doesn't work for them. Don't let these doctors tell you that its fine and thats how the meds are suppose to work. They aren't suppose to change your personality you(they) are who they are with or with out meds. If they are doing or acting some how very uncharactistic of them chek out why....I know this only through my own experience with ADD for the past 30yrs. and trying every medicine under the sun. For now I really like the vyvanse for me but as yo see the same medicine works very different on others even your own kids. Read More Read Less

You know, I have come to this conclusion after reading all the reviews. from my perpective, Vyvanse seems to be a medication that perhaps will work out better for adults than children. Although each person and body is different, what may work for you does not necesarily going to work for everybody. Every person is going to have their own opinion and experiences.Like any other medication sometimes we as ADDER'S have to go through many several meds before we come across the correct one. I do have to say, I have 2 boys ADD and ADHD both on Adderall XR one on 10mg and the other on 20mg. I defenetly do not like the side effects that come with it like mood swings, irritability, insomnia. then again it is part of it just like any other prescribed medication. I am although considering trying the vyvanse for them and see if it works for both my kids as well as myself. I also have Adult ADD and proud of it! I have been on Concerta 72mg for about 2 months not much of a difference or change. I have also been on Strattera 60mg defenetly did not work for me all.so perhaps, I will try the vyvanse for myself as well. As for everyone else that has had a bad experience with Vyvanse, keep ur hopes high and searching for an alternative do not give up! there are other options out there. Your child should never have to suffer at home or school. Read More Read Less

My 6 year old son has been on this medicine for about 2 months now. It worked at first but now he gets real emotional, has excessive blinking of the eyes, and can't stop moving his around. We have switched him to Focalin XR and we'll see if this one makes a difference.

My doctor suggested this when I complained of being tired & did not focus well. I have been on this for about 6 months now & results are incredible. Have lost weight, now much more focused & can happily complete tasks that I avoided before. Have no trouble sleeping & dry mouth is tolerable. I wish I had had this years ago!

Wow! What to say? I loved this medication at first, it was so uplifting and the mental clarity was through the roof!(on 40 mg.) HOWEVER... 6-7 hours into the med. I start having supreme panic/anxiety attacks, an uncontrollable urge to cry, and extreme irritation. I have to use Xanax to help calm me down (1 mg.). Is this normal? perhaps even a side effect? The depression it leaves is effecting me terribly, any suggestions?

This is really long but i hope that if someone is having the same experience as i am with this drug that they read this and dont have to feel alone. I have been taking Vyvanse for almost a year now while i've been in college. I started at 30 mg and now I currently take 60mg. I feel almost as if the medication worked better when it was a lower dose. I can feel it's effects in my classes and I can concentrate on anything now but I still have to give myself the motivation to do my work once I'm done with my classes for the day. This drug helps you focus but it cant choose for you what you need to focus on. If your a classic ADHD person in school, like myself, nothing really makes you start doing your work. You need the motivation once your out of the classroom to open up your books and then you can sit for hours and focus. The reason i find it to be worse as a higher dose for myself is because i always feel drugged out. If i open a magazine just to look real quick, ill spend 2 hours reading every single thing when I was supposed to be doing something else. Or go on the pc just to check my e-mail and get lost for hours, doing nothing on it...thats why i came to this site to see what the heck is going on with me. I've had some pretty embarrassing side effects including staring off and going cross-eyed, biteing the insides of my mouth, pulling on my bottom lip, picking obsessivly at my imperfections on my face, always tensing the muscles in my face so i look annoyed or sad or mad. i also pee a lot without drinking much of anything...ive also had a large amount of weight loss. if i miss a day or woke up too late in the day to take it, i get depressed very easily and then it goes away once i start again. i feel like its not doing what it needs to be doing for me but i feel like i cant do college on my own without its help. is there anyone that can relate 2 my story? i hope this was helpful Read More Read Less

My 5 year old son was perscribed this to help with his ADD and it was TERRIBLE!!! He immediately started acting crazy, scratching at his face, crying uncontrollably, and asking me to have his brain removed. I guess in theory a long acting medicine is great, but when you have this kind of reaction to it and it lasts 12 hours it was a nightmare! We actually had to give him a dose of benadryl to put him to sleep that night because he kept telling us that his brain said he had to stay up all night. He was actually running frantically around the house at midnight cleaning up everything he saw because he couldn't sleep. I understand some people love this medication, but as for me, you can keep it far far away from my son!!! He is now on Ritalin and we are having success with it.Read More Read Less

I have been on just about every drug out there for my ADD. Many required multiple dosings throughout the day, which was like being on a rollercoaster. Adderall XR was a once daily dose in the AM, but the side effects such as major loss of appetite, extreme ups and downs, and insomnia were truly difficult to deal with, although the medication was otherwise effective. When Vyvanse came out, I was put on a once daily dose of 30mg in the morning (about 8am). Immediately, I noticed that I was able to eat throughout the day, the effects of the medication were level throughout the day (no extreme ups or downs), and at bedtime, I was able to get to sleep fairly quickly. I'm not saying that everyone who takes Vyvanse will have the same experience on it as I do, but if you want to try something which seems fairly mild with few side effects and that works very well to quell the unpleasant symptoms of ADD/ADHD, I say talk to your doctor and give it a try. Best of luck and best wishes............JamisonRead More Read Less
