Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

My 7 year old son developed severe tics after beginning this medication. He was like a zombie and it broke my heart.

I've had a better experience with Vyvanse than Adderall XR: it seems to last longer and has fewer side effects. I was taking 120mg Adderall XR and now take 210mg Vyvanse/ day.

My 8 year old son has been taking this for 1 month now (30 mg) and his behavior and schoolwork have changed dramatically for the better. His handwriting, reading and grades are so much better! He can actually sit still in class and focus on his work. He is alot more respectful and kind too! The first day (sunday) on this medicine he didn't eat at all and played with a racetrac toy all day! But i still continued the medicine to give it a chance and he didn't act like that anymore. He takes 1 mg risperadone at night to help with sleep, irritability and to increase appetite so he doesnt experience these common side effects.Read More Read Less

My 9 year old son has ADD - The doctors put him on Vyvance and this worked wonders as far as his grades but the side effect were too much to handle. He lost a lot of weight and a lot of sleep. Sometimes it would be 2:00 am before he could go to sleep. He was also very moody all the time. He complained of headaches almost everyday. I did not like this medicine at all. My son was not the same child. The doctors switched him to Concerta and it is so much better. He eats so much more and is a sleep every night by 9:30. He's been on it for 3 weeks now and it's working.Read More Read Less

I've noticed a strange trend of comments on this website. Adults taking Vyvanse seem to love it, but parents commenting on their children seem to hate it. This could mean children react differently to the medication, but it could also mean the people who observe others on this medication see the negative things the person on the medication doesn't see.

I have been taking Vyvanse for nearly a month now and I have seen wonderful results. I can sit through an entire class at full attention, study for hours at a time. At 27 years old, I had been dropping in and out of college since high school. Now I'm getting A's and feel great. HOWEVER, I did notice that I was having a lot irritability, and emotional outbursts. These mood swings were noticed by co-workers, friends and family. My psychiatrist put me on Abilify to complement the Vyvanse and my mood swings have disappeared. I am now a more relaxed and focused individual. I suggest talking to your psychiatrist about possibly adding in the Abilify.Read More Read Less

I started takin Vyvance last fall to try to help my concentration and my mood swings were unbearable. My Dr. coupled it with prozac and it seemed to work up until a month or two ago. There have been instances where I've totally lashed out at friends and become extremley irritable and upset. This is completely out of character so I'm debating about getting off of this, but it does motivate me at work so I'm not sure about the combination of pros/cons. I am on 40 mg and started with 20 mg. I too lost weight also it has stabilized so I'm glad I'm not losing anymore. I'm really not sure if I recommend this or not. My friends and family are not liking my behavior- nor am I, yet I'm doing well at work. Read More Read Less

My son has been on Vyvanse 40 mg for 6 months. out of all the meds we have used, thisone really works. He is getting A's and B's since. His teacher has seen a change in his work and behavior. The only setback we have had is that he has lost alot of weight. his weight loss has slowed down but we are having to supplement his diet to get him back to regular weight.

After taking almost 2 years of college courses I noticed that I was behind all of my peers in almost all aspects of life. I went to my Dr. and he diagnosed me with ADHD. I was immediately put on Vyvanse at a 30mg dose. I loved it. My grades shot up like there was no tomorrow. After about a month of the 30mgs my dose was doubled to 60mg a day. The higher dose at first made me not hungry ever. EVER. And, I didn't sleep very much but I'm not sure if it is the Vyvanse or the college courses. After about another month of the 60mg my Dr. increased my dose to 2 - 60mg a day. One in the morning and one in the evening. At first, it was way way too much. The first sign of it being too much was when I lost 10lbs. I'm already a small person so a drop in weight that significant is a big deal. I have a 3 month supply so I don't need to go back to the Dr. I control myself by taking 1 in the morning and then IF NEEDED I'll take another one in the evening. Now that I am used to it, I can sleep on them and eat on them too. I think it just takes a month for your body to adjust to the new meds. Grades are still shooting through the roof!! I think my body is still adjusting somewhat: I sweat a lot, dry mouth constantly, and I have vaginal discharge constantly. I do think it works better than the Adderol XR because I am more focused on what I am doing rather than feeling all cracked out and twitchy. All in all, I think it just takes some getting used to and once that happens the rest of my life is organized, planned, and fulfilling finally. Read More Read Less

Having had depression for over ten years, with nothing quite working on my focus, my new dr. diagnosed me with ADHD, and immediately put me on 30mg of vyvanse. I felt amazing the first week. I was told to increase, and that he believed I'd even off around 90 to 120mg. The 2nd week i tried 60, and the effect was ok. Not as good as 30, but this type of medication is new to me. 90, though, was way too much. I was a zombie. I went on vacation, and didn't even realize I was there type of reaction. I went back down to 60, but I still feel like I should be able to do more. I can't read a book, watch tv...My brain focuses on one thing, and refuses to leave that one thing. I have become more forgetful and spacey, even just on 60. I've always had trouble sleeping, so that problem is nothing new, but the lack of appetite really nailed me. As a small person, I can't afford to lose weight, and have lost 8 lbs in 4 wks on this med. I'm never hungry. Ever. And now my weight is too low. My dr. decided to try Concerta starting monday, and I've been reading up on it. I'm just wondering if the lower vyvanse dose will be good for me, rather than a total switch. I've heard a lot of people on here say taking too much makes them zone out, so maybe my dose is too high. I'm nervous to switch to Concerta b/c i hear there's a crashing period in the afternoon and I can't afford that. The vyvanse works all day. I also developed severe nausea on this med. after a few weeks. I'm frustrated b/c my dr.s spent 10 years figuring out my depression, and now after this new diagnosis, we still can't find the right mix. I'm just wondering when I can totally even out, concentrate on things, and have motivation. Read More Read Less

My son nearly went into liver failure while on Vyvanse. He was hospitalized for a week and put on IV steroids and Imuran. He was treated for over a year by a pediatric GI specialist. He had only been on the drug for 4-5 months when we noticed that he had very yellow eyes. His skin also became extremely yellow. He was very sick. The physician even mentioned the possibility of a transplant. His spleen was also enlgarged. We are very lucky that he is okay now. No thanks to Vyvanse. I would not recommend this drug to anyone. My son had taken several other medicines for ADHD and never had any problems with his liver until he started on Vyvanse. Now, we won't let him take anything. He struggles in school and has to have tutoring twice a week. Liver side effects are not mentioned in the warning literature of this drug.Read More Read Less

My experience with this was better than Adderall XR because a single dose managed my ADHD all day. I used to have to take a dose of Adderall XR in the morning when I woke up then another just before noon to maintain my focus for the rest of the afternoon.

I had been prescribed Adderall for adult ADD, but found that it was not effective enough. Since I did not want to take an additional dose (plus, my doctor said it was not safe), I was switched to Vyvanese. It lasts longer, is more effective, and I don't feel any "crash" later in the day. I take the 70-milligram pill each morning. So far, so good.

I went off Concerta last summer and my doctor put me on Vyvanse right away. Bad choice on my doctor's part. Since I was going through withdrawal and getting used to the new medication, I would get a minor headache and I had a nightmare (It was so vivid, I still remember it.) I have been doing well on the Vyvanse. My grades have improved and I can focus better. Even I'm a little bit more organized. Of course my problem is still focusing when there is a lot of noise and distraction (I go to high school with a bunch of morons.)Read More Read Less

I have developed a rash that was diagnosed by a physical examination as ring worm, but I have had it since I started taking Vyvanse and have had it since. It's been since August 2008 and now it's almost May 2009. Still using "ringworm" topical ointment. Still have mysterious rash with terrible itching.
