Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

My five year old son just started this drug a week ago and it's been horrible. His behavior somewhat improved but due to the lack of sleep he gets very violent at daycare and threatens to kill everyone. He throws things around and loves to tease his little brother.I don't know what do do. He's tried Tenex and Ridilin and he's still out of control. Vyvanse keeps him up until 4 or 5 am. The pharmacist told us to give him Beneadryl to help him sleep but he won't take it; just spits it out. I give upRead More Read Less

If you do not stay properly hydrated while using vyvance, irritability and aggression will be greatly increased. You must continue to eat properly and regularly, even though your appetite is suppressed, in order to maintain regular blood sugar and energy levels. Also, obviously you must take it early in the morning or you will have sleeping problems. This all seems like common sense to me. I was diagnosed at age 9 and spent many miserable years on ritalin. I was never a zombie, i was constantly on edge and felt sick from manufactured stress, so much so that I developed an ulser. I also took welbutrin to handle the depression and anxiety the ritalin caused. I wasn't happy, I was numb. After trying an herbal alternative (rhodiola rosea, good but difficult to take properly and maintain a good regimine), I finally gave up and have just been barely able to cope with my ADD and struggle by in school since. My boyfriend recommended I try vyvance, having had the same experience on ritalin. I do not see my ADD as a disorder, but rather as a gift. Vyvance helps me channel that gift. Your children are not obsessing over weird things, they are just finally able to focus on what intrigues them. Foster their curiosity, don't berate them for it. You're children are brilliant, they just don't have the ability to focus and channel such brilliance. Vyvance does this for me. I am not stifled by it, I am empowered and enabled to seize control of my own thoughts. I still express the same amount of what an outsider may consider "random" thoughts, but now I can focus on things that do not interest me and go back and purposefully recall and maintain my attention on a specific task. I am a 26 year old adult who was diagnosed with ADD as a child, but was never medicated until October 2008. I was prescribed Vyvanse 30 mg and was very impressed and more productive than ever. Side effects included: dry mouth, decreased appetite, trouble sleeping, etc. A few weeks later, side effects subsided for the most part, but I felt the meds were ineffective by noon-ish. I take my dose very early in the morning as I have to be at work by 7. My doctor upped me to 50 mg. After a month, I felt as though the meds still weren't as effective. He upped them again to 70mg. I was on that dosage for about 6 months. Although I felt the Vyvanse did not last the entire day, it was still much better than not taking any medication at all, and was for the most part, smooth sailing. In June, for various reasons, I decided to try a month without the medication. My doctor was okay with my decision. While I was definitely not as productive, organized, or motivated at work or at home, I enjoyed food the way I used to, and was releaved not to have to chug water allll day to stay hydrated. However, in July, I decided to go back on the Vyvanse 70 mg. The past month that I've been back on it has been a rollercoaster ride. My emotions are all over the place; for the first few hours after taking the Vyvanse I feel good (mood, motivated, productive) but every day, around mid-late afternoon I "crash." My mood then varies from very flat, almost depressed like, to easily emotional. Typically by the later evening, I am okay again, though not great. I never experienced this the first 6 months I was on it. I had a few random days where I didn't feel like "myself" but this has been very different. I have an appointment with my doctor to discuss my dosage. I definitely think it needs to be adjusted. Just wanted to share my experience. Overall, Vyvanse is wonderful, but the side effects can outweigh the benefits - as in my case. I am off the Vyvanse until my dosage can be tweaked. Read More Read Less

I'm 36 and was finally diagnosed with ADD. I've only been on Vyvanse for a few days, but I do notice a distinct difference. For 6 hours I feel great and can get things done, and actully feel happy! But once 2pm roles around, I feel a definite "crash" happen. I get tired and lose any kind of drive. It's still better than I was before with no meds, but mornings are difinitely better than afternoons for me. I've had some mild headaches as my brain adjusts to this, but no real side effects so far.

Before taking vyvanse, you would never catch me sitting down or sitting in one position for more than 5 minutes. I have only been taking it for a couple days and i feel so much more focused. I can actually sit down and stay there! The only side effects i've had so far is my loss of appitite, tired and have a head ache sometimes. Aslo if something makes me mad, its hard to hold my feelings back. I tend to get angry fast.

My son takes this medication and at first it seemed to work really well but in the last month or so it seems that the medication is not lasting but half the time it used to.

I have been on Adderal, Concerta and finally I spoke with my Psychrichist about Vyvanse. I am currently in college and can actually get my work done, focus on it and I am getting amazing grades. I have been on the medicine for about a week now and have never been more happy. I am very pleased and will continue with this treatment.

I have read through all four hundred some-odd comments and I have to say, if you or your child have a negative reaction to this drug, like increased energy, crazy behavior, etc., well, you probably don't have ADD. Those are the same side effects one would expect from someone taking speed. That's why this drug is highly used on the street. So kids can get "high!" You've probably been misdiagnosed. If your child starts acting crazy, I'd get a second opinion about his or her diagnosis. This is a drug for ADD. If it doesn't treat the ADD, then your child doesn't have ADD. Just my two cents.Read More Read Less

I think it really helps vs all other meds I have tried. The only concerns I have are weight loss and since under stress already in my life people are concerned about me and it causes mood swings especially if I have my coffee in morning. I also hit wall in afternoon and get very tired and can't get out of bed in morning. Not sure if any of this is due to drug or IUD, that has bad side effects or just my life . I do however like it better than any other med I've taken.

After a low level of performance during my freshman year in highschool, I began taking medicine for ADD, cycling between Ritalin, Concerta, and Strattera. This made all the difference for me and I graduated with honors. I weened myself off of it during a gap year between highschool and college and hadn't taken anything since, except for an Adderrall here and there for cram sessions. Now I'm 22 and just finished my junior year, but by my college career academically has left something to be desired. My girlfriend was prescribed to Vyvanse and I began taking it from time to time and what a difference. I finally saw a shrink and we decided that I probably needed to be on medication again because I just wasn't doing what I needed to in order to succeed and transfer to a prestigious Hotel Management School. I was prescribed Vyvanse about a week ago, and already it has made all the difference in my summer class and at work. My teachers and managers have all commented on my increase in productivity and attention. Vyvanse is amazing. You can open the capsule to adjust dosing and it doesn't give you the jitters or crash like Adderrall. The only side effect Ive encountered is irritability, but that diminishes everyday as your body gets used to the drug. Read More Read Less

I have spent my whole life just getting by, barely graduated, didnt finish college, always had a job but got bored and inefficient once the newness of it was gone. After being misdiagnosed w things from Depression to bipolar disorder, I was Diagnosed w/ ADD about 2 yrs ago and have been on various doses of Adderall since. The Adderall definetly helped, but I still didnt feel right. I finally talked to a new shrink about this (my doc not feeling she knew enough about ADD)and he wanted me to try Vyvanse. I have been on it for 2 days... I actually feel like I'm here, in my life, rather than just someone kinda watching from the outside. The boredom & restlessness i've been feeling especially at my job of 4+yrs has subsided. I feel hopeful! The difference was immediate! It does seem to give me a headache after a few hours, but I am hoping that will fade after awhile, because this is so worth the increase in my co-pay(since there is no generic)!Read More Read Less

My son has been taking this medication since it first came on the market. Two of his teachers sent me an email and said whatever changes were made to keep them up. They said my son was more attentive, more participating in class discussions and grades improved overall. Downside, this medication takes TWO HOURS to become effective and needs to be taken EARLY in the morning before school.

I was taking concerta for about 3 years but had issues with it wearing off early in the afternoon and having depression issues with it. I spoke to my Dr. and he prescribed Vyvanse. On 40mg tablets it has extended release and maintains its effectiveness throughout the day into the evening. I do not have the trouble sleeping at night like I did with Concerta, but still have to take a sleep aid once and a while. I do not notice the heart racing that I also did with Concerta. My son has also recently switched and has had no side effects and can take a lower dose of vyvanse than he was on Concerta. It also is helping to sustain his attention and hyperactivity into the late afternoon and early eveningRead More Read Less

Vyvanse has great synergy with Zoloft; I no longer drink, abuse nicotine or roadrage. I do NOT RECOMMEND SMOKERS USE THIS DRUG. One or the other I would say and by NO MEANS SHOULD A MINOR USE THIS DRUG. Adderall XR should be plenty for a child unless they drink "energy" style drinks every day. Caffeine causes teeth grinding and jaw mincing. 2 Hours after dosing, a brief period of recurring symptoms occur for 5-10mins and then are gone again.

I am very satisfied with the way it helps me perform at work, It has helped me significantly to be consistent with work. Although sometimes I would rather sit and read and focus on something rather than be social with co workers or friends. I feel a little isolated and sometimes irritated when someone interrupts my focus. Although I feel happy, focused, driven 90% of the time, as before I thought I was suffering from depression but all symptoms proved to be ADHD, as I was diagnosed with when I was 12, and discontinued treatment after high school. I do get jittery/ shaky when I first take the medicine in the morning. I have a significant appetite decrease especially during the first few months of taking it. Now, though I feel my appetite has been regular, but my metabolism is much faster. I have checked my resting heart rate for my age without Vyvanse is 80-82/min min. When taking Vyvanse I have a resting heart rate of 160/ min. ( I have no heart problem, my doctor feels this is ok I am 22, very healthy, I work out at least three times a week for 1 hour each day) If I take Vyvase a little too late in the morning I find I have a extremely hard time sleeping. I sometimes get a headache about 8 hours after I take the meds. When I forget to take it sometimes I feel that I have STRONG cravings for food.. The side effects I have managed through the last few months and figured out how to deal with them, the benefits of taking it definitely outweigh the side effects.Read More Read Less

I am a 15 year old female and I must say, this medication has helped me so much. As soon as I started high school, my grades dropped like rocks, and I failed half of my classes. Then, my doctor recommended taking Vyvanse. I have never been able to pay so much attention to the teacher before! However, I do get very irritable and dizzy sometimes...
