Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

Thank goodness as an older adult I found a name for my disorder. Vyvanse has been the wonder drug. I take just as directed when I get up in the morning. Thank you Doctor!

The first day I felt like I had just gone from regular tv to HD! I suddenly noticed everything in detail. That wore off after a week so we upped the dosage to 60mg. Absolutely must eat before taking the medication as well as keep something light in my stomach all day or will start to feel jittery. Staying hydrated is a must also otherwise I have that dry mouth symptom which is awful. Was just diagnosed at 50 and am only going on meds b/c I am going to start grad school. I take this in combination with neurontin. If I do not exercise during th day then I will have trouble going to sleep. I also must take it before or by 8am for the same reason. Overall my thinking based on the other posts that I have read is that this may be a drug for adults and not children. I have not had any irritability nor lack of interest in food. I am truly hoping that the effects last and that I am able to finish my degree program happily and successfully. After obtaining employment I am thinking I may try to either lower my dosage or come off meds for a period of time. I am not a person who likes to take any medication.Read More Read Less

It works well, but my son feels like it's effectiveness wears off too quickly. His doctor upped his dosage, and he is now experiencing mild panic attacks.

I was on the drug for 7 days. For the first few days I felt jittery but otherwise OK. Then my headaches began, along with confusion and trouble sleeping. By the 7th day I had to lie down most of the day . My head felt as if it would explode. i stopped the medication on the 8th day.

The first couple of days on Vyvanse I was hyper and jittery, talking nonstop, unable to sit still. This passed within days. Now I'm wide awake, alert, and focused. I'm still distractable, but less so than I was. I'm getting things done that I've put off for years, such as organizing my room and my studio. The appetite suppressant effect is great for me - I'm chronically obese and have health problems to go with it. I lost 11 pounds over the first two months without being aware of it. The only problem is that I keep forgetting to eat during the day and my blood sugar drops as a result. I'm trying to eat scheduled meals to counter this. All in all, I think it's great.Read More Read Less

I take a small dose in the mornings. I have anxiety. I thought that this drug would make me more anxious, but it helps me focus and get done everything I need to do throughout the day, thus making me have less anxious feelings.

Diagnosed with Bipolar I, mixed moods and ultra rapid cycling, I took Ritalin for several years both to counteract the fatigue associated with depression and the difficulty to focus associated with mania and hypomania. As I developed a tolerance to Ritalin, my dose increased and the rebound when the Ritalin wore off became much more difficult to deal with. I've been on Vyvanse for over a year and it resolved both problems. I take it first thing in the morning, wait for approximately 30 minutes for it to kick in and enjoy a sustained, therapeutic level of energy and focus for 12+ hours. I'm very pleased with Vyvanse.Read More Read Less

The medicine did exactly what its supposed to do. It kept me alert and focused, but I've experienced nearly all the side effects and now, at 26 years old, I'm dealing with tachycardia, muscle twitching, and various other side effects.

Being 28 years old, I found out for the first time that I had ADHD, I guess I slipped by the ADHD catchers in middle school. As a professional software engineer(and in my personal life) I've noticed a huge difference with productivity, alertness, focus, treating my spouse better. She says I'm a new person and I believe it. No problem sleeping and it lasts all day when I need it.

I was diagnosed with ADD 11 years ago at the age of 38.I have tried several types of medication for this and for the last 2 years have been using Vyvanse. The significant difference that I have noticed, and my spouse has really noticed is my attitude and general mood in the latter parts of the day and into the evening. I was taking Adderall for 3 years. I started out with low dosages and gradually increased the levels after 1 year. Two different doctors agreed that because I am a person of large stature(6'8" & 300lbs) my body could handle the max dosage for Adderall. My wife noticed soon that my moods would change in the early evening from focused and level headed to for the sake of better words grumpy old fart. I decided to not use medication for my ADD for a couple of years. I soon felt the pressures and distractions affecting my daily activities and contacted my Dr. He prescribed Vyvanse at a moderate dose and within a very short time I could feel the difference. MY wife clearly saw the difference and immediately noticed that my moods and actions were consistent during the entire day. I have been taking Vyvanse regularly now and believe it has been a huge benefit to myself and my family. I understand it works better for some than it does others and all I can reccomend is that you try it against other ADD meds and see how well it works for you.Read More Read Less

I am 29 and have recently been diagnosed with ADHD. I Have been on Vyvanse 40mg. for about a month and all i can say is WOW! This med is working very good for me. I havent tried any other meds for ADHD so i really cant say its better than any other meds for the disorder... I have read almost every review on this site and can see that it has helped a lot of other people too. I dont have trouble falling asleep at night like a few of the people have stated. I find i am able to stay focused at work and alert, no more daydreaming. The only side effect i have experienced was the first day i took it, i had blurred vision for a second but once i blinked my eyes and it was gone. I definately would recommend at least asking your Dr. about taking this med if you have ADHD. Oh, and the meds last all day for me, i work from 5am to 5pm. Hope this review is helpful!Read More Read Less

Don't let your shrink just decide that you may have been becoming to used to Ritalin. Shire has 800 salesmen out in the field. There are some doctors that look at the buck and not the well being of their patients. Vyvanse now has 12 % market share for ADD. I went to a shrink for my first visit and he spent the first 15 minutes try to sell me (cajole) and throughout the session on this new drug. This was my first session with him. My current psychiatrist was retiring....so I had to make a change after 10-12 years. Well it was the wrong change! He had not prepared for our meeting. Mind you...this was a first meeting or session with this highly motivated salesman. So.... be smart...don't let those doctors sell you on a drug on your first meeting...investigate what this drug can do and has the ability to do to you. I've had ADD since I was 5 for sure. SHIRE should be ashamed of themselves. Letting a shrink do their dirty work for them. First they convince you to change and then you get a 30-day free regime for Vyvanse. Sound familiar?...as to making you psychologically addicted with the first free month of the drug, maybe even physiologically addicted also. The shrink...and I use the word loosely wanted me to stop taking my Ritalin, and go directly to my pharmacist to pick up my free month's supply of Vyvanse. It kind of says that Vyvanse is for young kids....not for a 64 year old man. I have been taking a pretty strict combination of drugs for more then 30 years. This shrink was not a real doctor...just a pill pusher for his own gain.Read More Read Less
