Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

My 7 year old son who was on Focalin XR was switched to Vyvanse because he was having aggression issues when the medication wore off. The first day of taking Vyvanse he was a zombie. The second day is when the REAL trouble began. He was a zombie again until the medicine started wearing off then he became VERY VERY depressed. He cried harder than I had ever seen him and told me there were "people talking inside his head and laughing at him." He told me he was scared to go to sleep and didn't want me or his father to sleep either because we wouldn't wake up if we did go to sleep. He was extremely depressed and saddened to the point were we were scared to put in in his own room. Finally around 3 am he drifted off to sleep. And guess what? The next morning he remembered NOTHING AT ALL about the episode of sadness. Vyvanse was a horrible drug for my child and I would never give this medication to my child again. We are now trying Daytrana with minimal side effects.Read More Read Less

Works exceptionally well compared to other ADHD treatments. Not jittery comparatively speaking. Can sleep at night. Titrated my way up to 70mg/day

I dealt with ADHD throughout my childhood and the first couple years of college. I was constantly forgetting and re-reading things I just read, getting up from studying to get a drink or just walk around, tapping my foot on the floor and clicking my pen, daydreaming, talking to myself, looking out the window, etc... After being accepted into the Surgical Technology program my third year of college (I assist the surgeon during surgery), I decided to ask my Dr for help. He started me on Strattera 40mg, which made me sleepy and therefore more distracted. Next was Adderall 20mg. It did help me foucus, but I was still getting up to do things and I could never get comfortable. It didn't last very long either, just a few hours. Then we tried 30mg XR which lasted about 8 hours, but the restlessness was still there. Finally in September 09 he suggested Vyvanse 30mg, and WOW what a difference it has made! I'm able to sit down and get my work done in a timely manner, AND remember what it was about!! Not only has it "cured" my terrible study habbits, but for everyday things as well. My laundry gets washed, dried, AND folded, dishes get finished AND put away, I don't forget things (as often), and I'm much more organized! I'm currently on 50mg and one lasts all day! From clinical rotations at 6:30am, through classes and studying and whatever life throws at me that day, until I'm ready for bed that night. I'd recommend this medication to anyone, and hope it has helped others the way it has helped me!! Some side effects I've experienced are: Dry mouth, Dry skin and hair, Sweating more than usual, Loss of appetite, Slight eye twitching, *Rapid and sometimes "pounding" heartbeat and feeling really warm inside *(Those 2 are only when I first take it in the morning and it goes away within a hour) I'm a 23 year old college student and Vyvanse is helping me achieve my goals!! Sounds cheesy but that's how satisfied I am with this product!Read More Read Less

I have two daughters with ADHD 15&9 They both have had the horrible run around with all the medications out there for ADHD.Until Vyvanse,...what a difference it has made in them both! They both were put on Vyvanse at different times. My oldest is on 60 mg and she is doing fabulous..going on 6 months! My 9 year old was on 50 mg and we saw no change! It was absolutely horrible. Then, her Child Psychiatrist increased it to 60mg.What a difference! The only down fall with my children and medications is,my 9 year old in the mornings before taking her medications is "very" difficult...beyond belief we are always late to school because of her meltdowns in the morning. Then her medication kicks in by the time she arrives to school! It is very frustrating,I have tried getting her up early to take it and she will argue and fight me not to take it.She also takes a mood stabilizer and the combination works great. It has been just so miserable getting to the right dose...and keeping my own sanity in the meantime!:0)Read More Read Less

My son is 5 1/2 and has been having significant trouble focusing and completing assignments in school. He also has trouble at home; he was very anxious, distracted and not motivated to do what we asked of him (homework, clean his room, brush his teeth). His teacher and I had been keeping in touch and communicating through the first half of the year and as time went his difficulties increased. He does not have the hyperactivity aspect thankfully. We took him to our pediatrician, completed the Vanderbilt scale which strongly indicated ADD. He was started on Vyvanse 20 mg and he was noticably improved on the very first day. He colors well, he's writing full sentences in cursive, he WANTS to read and his teachers and myself are amazed. He has had absolutely no appetite changes or weight loss. He has had 2 nights of trouble falling asleep out of the 18 days that he's been on the meds. He even swallows the capsule without us having to break it apart and sprinkle it on his food. I know that you asked for only user reviews or direct caregivers but I am a grandmother who spends a lot of time with my grandson. He is 6 years old, very bright but was having a great deal of trouble following instructions at home and at school. I encouraged my daughter to have him tested for the 2nd time. He was tested at 4 years old. This time he started on Vyvanse and has improved one grade in 2 subjects in less than a month. He feels so much better about himself. He has experienced decreased appetite and lost a little weight. Children don't understand why they do the things they do when suffering from ADHD. They want to do the right thing and feel so much better when they can. Read More Read Less

My son started out on 20 mg and about 2 months later had to go up to 30 mg. He was very irritable and aggitated and angry. I have had calls from school for the past two weeks and he was expelled for two days. I took him off of it and will not put him back on it or likely any other medication. It has been a horrible experience.

This was a scary 5 months in our household. My son is 7. We changed to Vyvanse from Concerta(36mg) because we moved and got a new doctor that preferred Vyvanse. Concerta had a couple side effects like appetite loss, trouble sleeping, and I didn't like the yearly increase in mg, but they were minor. His doctor suggested we give Vyvanse a try. He started on 20mg which did nothing. His doctor bumped him right up to 40mg. His concentration in school was excellent. BUT he seemed alot more emotional. ( crying over things that just weren't that big of a deal). I took him to his doctor and addressed my concerns. He blew it off. Two months into treatment he was just not the same little boy, he was emotional, angry, defiant. It happened gradually. I took him to the doctor and told him the medicine was not working. I was sent home with surveys (for adults in his life). When I turned them in the doctor told me he was doing fine in school but was only defiant at home. He suggested he had Oppositional Defiance Disorded and suggested counseling. We gave that a try. Saw no behavior change. Five months in I took him back to his doctor and told him the medicne was not working, He raised the dose to 50 mg. Within 2 days I figured out it was the Medicine. His fits of RAGE and uncontrollable actions immediately got worse. I went to the doctors office and told him I will NEVER give this medicine to my child again. He changed him back to Concerta and I have my sweet little boy back again. His teacher says even though he does not concentrate as well, he is able to do better because he has self control now. His doctor raised his dose of Concerta to 45mg and I have high hopes. Thank God my son is smart enought to get through his schoolwork with all these emotional side effects or he would probably be repeating the 2nd grade. This was a miserable experience for our family and I hope no other family has to go through it. At the first thought of mood swings, get off this medicine!Read More Read Less

Vyvanse is a miracle for me at school. I am a college student and taking vyvanse has led to me a near perfect GPA, where as in high school i was struggling to get even a B average. Paying attention is so easy, and for those reasons it has helped me. Vyvanse, however, does have downfalls. It has caused me social anxiety, and depression- both which i have never experienced before the drug. This just started about three to six months after starting. After several hours of being on it, I'm like in a zone and its a constant struggle to want to keep a conversation with someone. I cant say enough how frustrating that is, because I am a very talkative, outgoing person when I'm not taking the pill. If there was anyway to cancel out this side effect, then Vyvanse, in my opinion, would be practically perfect.Read More Read Less

My 10 yr old son was put on the 20mg for combine adhd and borderline bipolar(is what they told me). It did nothing for him so they put him on 30mg and within 2 weeks he went from moody to extreme moody. In the morning he would seem happy kind of quiet but very busy body, than by mid-afternoon he would either be on the floor rolling around crying and screaming that he hated they way he felt inside he wanted to die, or he would be so pissed off for no reason that if you even looked at him he would rip your head off and say he hated everything and he would never be happy. After a couple weeks of this I took him off of it. He still a little moody and can not be quiet and do his work at school, but I rather deal with that than what happen with the meds.Read More Read Less
