Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I am a 23 year old female who has been battling with adhd for quite a while now. But, up until about 2 yrs ago, did not seek treatment and did not realize what I was dealing with, until the problem became to hard to bear. I was first put on generic adderall (amphetamine salts). Those seemed to work wonders, except for the fact that they didn't last all day. And unfortunately, my insurance does not cover adderall XR. I was then introduced to Strattera, which was no help at all. Its sad to say, but the medications that are stimulants seem to be the only ones to help. I was then told about this new drug, vyvanse from a friend that also dealt with ADHD and was taking vyvanse herself. I was automatically put on 40mg to start off with! It helped but I soon had to go up to 50mg, and then 60mg b/c of my tolerance. I've read a lot of these reviews and thought it was just me who thought that this med. didnt last nearly long enough to get me through the entire day. I would either take it early and have it wear off around noon, or wait to take it around 2pm(i go to school at night, which is when i need it the most)to help me throughout school. But reading the reviews, I'm not the only 1 who has had these types of problems. Today, my doc just put me on 60mg in the A.M. and 20mg P.M., which will work but costs a boatload for 2 seperate prescriptions. If anyone in somewhat the same predicament can shed some light on this issue, and if they found a more effective alernative (change of medication etc) I would very much appreciate it. Going up and down with dosage, and having to figure out when best to take it, has been an ongoing problem since I started taking Vyvanse, and it's one less problem I would like to deal with when it comes to controlling my ADHD. Awful! I started at 20 mg for adhd, and upped to 30 after not getting much relief from this drug. I experienced panic, unrelenting debilitating anxiety and irritability. I had been taking adderal xr, which was fine. The marketing of vyvanse influenced both me and my provider to try this shiny new drug. Shire is shameless in the pandering of this awful drug. It is so obvious that they are trying to corner the market again as the adderal patent is expiring. Stay away from this new version.

I have been taking Vyvanse for about 6 mos. I am a 46 year old female and I am experiencing life changing results. I had the headache side effects in the first few weeks. Once that wore off I began to go go go! I have become very organized in my thinking and my life is becoming what I always felt it could be. The draw backs are: (a) finding the right dose so that I do not become irritable and have a hard time sleeping, (b) heart racing at too high dose, (c) having to give up my coffee because the combo increases irritability, and (d) having to divide the doses to arrive at the right amount interferes with ease of use especially since I travel for a living. ALL IN ALL THOUGH I AM VERY SATISFIED!Read More Read Less

My 11 yr old daughter has had beautiful results on this medication. She was diagnosed ADHD at the end od 2nd grade. That summer into the following year we tried: concerta (no appetite - lost a pound a day) and adderal (had to take 3 times a day plus a sleeping pill). At this point we were sent to an actual child psychiatrist (were seeing the family doc). The psychriatrist tried a number of medication. My daughter became violent and self mutalating at the age of 8! We came very close to commiting her to the hospital when we decided to take her off of everything. We took her to a neuropsychologist who again diagnosed her ADHD. He looked at past medications, home and school life and he choose vyvanse. I had my daughter back. On the medication she is a very focused busy body, making crafts, playing with friends, etc. She does stay up late (takes medication around 7 am and goes to be around 11 pm). I would not toss this choice of medication out the window just because someone had negative results. Every child is different. I would use all your resources, talk to the school, talk to friends, look on web md.Read More Read Less

My Daughter who is 12 was diagnosed with ADHD and this medicine worked some what good it really helped her focus wich made her grades go up to A's and B's (because she really didn't do well before) but it made her eyes seem like she couldn't bliked so it looked like, but she barley eat her wait and growth went bad she was very underweight and she was also using Geodon with it to go to sleep and she said it was very hard to go to sleep every night, and it was actually almost like she had OCD because she was always cleaning everything even if something was as clean as it can be, and one day as I was watching her do her homework and if she wrote a letter wrong (or if she didn't think it wasn't neat enough) she'd erase it and write it again please let me know if this happend to you or someone else.Read More Read Less

This medication almost killed my 17 year old son. His doctor kept increasing his dosage, he became very violent. We could not reason with him or talk to him. I would never recommend this medication. Adderall XR worked just fine, his doctor decided to change to vyvanse, thought it would work better. When I told the Doctor something was wrong, he kept saying the dosage needed to increase, thing kept getting worse. Horrible, horrible experience.

This drug has been a miracle drug for me. At 53 I never thought I had ADHD, but within days of starting this medication I could concentrate and focus so much better. Because it is so expensive, I take the 60mg capsules, and titrate them in water to create 30mg dosages for two days. Also, the drug wears off around 5:30pm and I crash big time and get very depressed. Takng a small dose of Adderall helps with the rest of the day. Although taking this medication is more involved than just taking a pill at a certain time, it has definately been worth it.Read More Read Less

Vyvanse has been a life saver for me. At work I would start slowing down around 2 in the afternoon. It would be hard for me to focus on work. After taking Vyvanse I really noticed a difference. I was more alert, never got tired or sluggish, it has worked wonders for me.

I am an adult who was diagnosed with ADHD in my 30's. I have experienced mood cycling , difficulties with concentration, organization and interpersonal relationships since childhood. This has manifested itself in extreme anger and violent behavior as well as underachievement in school and work. I have been incarcerated twice as a result of an uncontrollable temper, harrassment of others and assultive behavior. Anti- anxiety medication did not work completely nor did the SSRI's on this problem . Since I have been on Vyvanse- 70 mg - I have noticed improved concentration and less overall frustration . I am able to work at a job that requires a reasonably high level of cognitive skills in systems analysis , although I am still challenged by distractions. I continue with a lower dosage of anti- anxiety medications and can attest to the side- effects of palpitations and increase in heart rate with the use of Vyvanse I recommend that any adult considering its use have a complete physical examination including a cardiogram to make sure that they have no underlying cardiac risk problems that would pose risk of a heart attack or stroke. Overall, I can endorse it to someone who presents with the debilitating effects of ADHD as long as they are closely monitored by a competent specialist who has appropriately diagnosed the condition and tried other medications.Read More Read Less

I am a 25yr old stay at home mom of two little girls ages 2 and 4. Before I started staying home 2yrs ago I had a job for 5yrs as a surgical assistant which was very fast paced and routine. Well once I was on my own I started to notice I was having a hard time staying on task or sticking to a routine. I would be busy all day and then by the end of the day it would seem as if I accomplished nothing. Things began to get worse as time went on which led to me being upset and angry with myself because I felt I wasn’t doing what I should be doing for my kids and husband. I have been on Vyvanse for almost 2 months now and it has literally given me my life back. I can now focus on things and accomplish so much. I have more time for my family now that I have gotten so organized and have stuck to a routine. Medications work differently for everyone but I would definitely recommend at least trying this one. I am so much happier now.Read More Read Less

This medication can mildly help with focus, but the negative is that there is a "crash" effect afterwards after a few days. Became very tired at end of day, much more than normal. Not worth the side effects.Have been taking 40 mg. My son is diagnosed with ADD too (18 yr old), he feels same way about this medication after trying it and wants to go back to Adderall. I am adult female, 52. Also very difficult to get Rx here in NJ...was refused drug because I went to pick it up the day after it was written for. Many calls back and forth Dr., insurance, pharmacy to get this straightened out. Definately not worth the aggravation and expense.Read More Read Less

I switched to Vyvanse after feeling like Adderall was wearing off too quickly in the day. After just 1 week, I can't handle the overwhelming feeling of anger. I am mad at everyone and everything for no reason and just feel like crying. I hate this medication.

This is the first med my 7 year old tried for ADHD. It was wonderful for the first week. He could suddenly complete the school work that he always knew was easy but had not been able to focus on long enough to complete before. He was very happy with himself. Unfortunately his attitude became more and more negative and angry. His teacher said it seemed like whenever something negative happened he would dwell on it and not be able to get past it. The doc tried combining with intuniv but that just made him tired and unmotivated. The doctor decided the vyvanse stimulant made him obsessive so I took him off both. It's three weeks later and we are going to try Strattera.Read More Read Less

I am a 33 y/o Male, I was diagnosed with ADHD in april 2010. The very first dose on this medication I felt like a human being. My concentration was good, an underlying anxiety disappered, and I slept better. I experienced the following side effects; jitterness, dry mouth, lack of appetite, slight increase in heart rate. The side effects were very minor thus far and becoming less evident. One important lesson I did learn however, when I first started is, if you have been self medicating with Caffiene (coffee ,Soda) you will need to stop or the side effects grow more pronounced. I am on 20mg po q.d.Read More Read Less

My son was diganose with ADHD at age 9. He started with Concerta, then Adderall, and eventually Yvanse. His doctor started him with 20mg which worked for about 1 year, then he up his dosage to 30mg, which he is taking. Now my son is 11 years and going to the middle school. I have noticed when the medicine wears off he is a little sad, but if he channels his energy into something he enjoys doing he is back to his old self. I really like this medicine, because it last the entire school day and a little after school during homework time. I give it to him at 8:45am every morning and it stays in his system till 5-6pm. I don't give it to him on the weekends and don't see any problems during that time. So I recommend this medicine to any mom who has had school challenges with their son/daughter in the past.
