Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

My Son started this Medication at 20mg for about the first Month and a-half It was great, helped him focus and concentrate with just a few headaches and he would nap for about an hour when he got home from school, then do some homework. But then it seemed to just wear off so his Dr. upped the medication to 40mg a day and then Irritability and Aggressivness were very apparent, He was being written up everyday at school for something, outbursts and hitting a boy in the face. I quit giving it to him and now we are searching for something that will work for him. I will give it to my Dr. before adding to the dosage, she said she had noticed alot of reports of children takin this medication having aggitation and being aggressive, so it is trial and error for sure. Ive struggled with my ADHD for as long as I could remember.Ive always just lived with it instead of talking to my parents or trying to seek treatment. When I turned 18 and moved out on my own I had a rude awakening.I had all these responsibilities that overwhelmed me.All the structure in my life was gone.So the ADHD became more apparent. Cleaning was too boring, cooking was too tedious, and the list goes on.My life was completely out of control, you couldn't walk through my apartment. It was almost unlivable.I wasn't busy,I didn't have a job,I dropped out of school, there was just no excuse.I would spend my days just sleeping.I frustrated everyone around me.I'm always too distracted to have a conversion,it takes SO MUCH EFFORT to really listen to someone. My boyfriend had to control the keys to our apartment because I would loose them countless times.I felt like a 10 year old that couldn't handle any responsibilities.I came to the point of severe depression,I isolated myself.I didn't have ONE friend.I believe that is around the time the bipolar kicked in.My mind was always running from the ADHD but at that time in my life my mind was being FLOODED with all these emotions I couldn't handle. Everyday I was angry, sad, frustrated, giggly, etc.My life turned into a nightmare. But I lived with it for another year and so did my poor boyfriend.Well it was about three weeks ago I had a complete breakdown. My boyfriend did something to set me off(probably nothing) and I ended up crying on the bathroom floor for hours, yelping and unable to move. The next day,I called a psychiatrist. The doctor told me that living untreated with ADHD this long probably set off the bipolar disorder. She prescribed me 50mg of Vyvanse.I have only been taking it for a week but its already changed my life.I no longer sleep all day. My concentration is wonderful. And the mood swings have VANISHED.Im so reasonable now.Im going to get my GED now,the Vyvanse are giving me the confidence to do anything with my lifeRead More Read Less

Vyvanse gave my son horrible stomach cramps. He wouldn't take it past 3 days because of the pain.

I am 23 years old and was diagnosed with A.D.H.D. when I was 8. I took various dosages of Ritalin off and on for about 15 years and recently switched to Vyvanse. The reason I made the switch was because I felt like I had built up a resistance to the Ritalin, and Vyvanse had a considerably cheaper co-pay. So far I've been on it for almost 2 months (30mg was the starting dose for my 1st month and then I had my Dr. increase it to 40mg for the 2nd month) and am considering increasing my dosages by another 10mg. I work 5 days a week at 4:30 in the morning, so I need something long-acting if I'm going to make it through a 17 hour day. I can't tell yet if Vyvanse just isn't doing it for me, or if I haven't found the appropriate dosage. I haven't experienced any side effects that I wasn't already used to with Ritalin (dry-mouth, occasional heart palpitations, loss of appetite). All in all, it seems to be a good drug, I just hope I can find the dosage that works for me so I don't have to switch again! Good luck to all who give Vyvanse a try! One last thing--I Googled Vyvanse before I got a prescription for it and there was a voucher for up to $50 off your first prescription. So if that covers your co-pay or if you're uninsured, print one out! I'm not sure how long the offer will continue, but when you print the voucher it has about a 1-month expiration date on it.Read More Read Less

Well... It's great. My grades have improved. My concentration is better. I've lost 15 pounds in three weeks and dropped an entire pant size. While for some it may be too new to be covered by insurance, I think that it is a plausible treatment option.

I am more fatigued physically but am able to read with better comprehension. I also am able to complete tasks around the house without losing track of what I wanted to do. I definitely am able to focus better when in conversation with others.

Before I started taking Vyvanse, my doctor tried me on Straterra, a non-stimulant for ADHD. I had my side effects with Straterra and did not see any results so he switched me to Vyvanse. Prior to Vyvanse I had been averaging 76-80% on college nursing exams due to my inability to sit down and focus my attention on studying. After taking Vyvanse I noticed immediate results. I was able to focus my attention on the text as well as retain information. I also noticed a huge improvement in my ability to organize thoughts and tasks which has greatly improved my time management skills. I now average a 90% on exams and am extatic. I always used to say I was "just not a studier". Now I can study without problems or interruptions. I would recommend this drug to anyone who needs help studying and wants to do well in school. The only negative effect I have noticed is that I can't fall asleep early if I take it after 9-10am. Also some mild headaches and irritability if I skip a day.Read More Read Less

I was looking for a medication that wasnt as habit forming as Adderall- My Doctor recommended this I took 20mg for a month and my hair became severely thin and on top of that I became manic about everything except the current task at hand. I had thick beautiful hair now its thinning and I want to hide. .

Hey, my name is Bryson and I'm 18 years old. I have ADD. I got prescribed Vyvanse and have some mixed feelings about it. I definitely notice random mood changes and I don't really like that to much. Definitely after the first 3 hours. What's really weird is that it really gives me all this confidence and empathy when talking with other people (for the first 3 hours)and after that I become exact opposite and avoid conversations. Let me tell you really a really quick summery about my-self (off Vyvanse)so you can compare my effects to how I normally am. I'm never Bi-Polar, never shy, and no sleeping problems. My only problem really was not being able to focus if my life depended on it. Now taking the Vyvanse I have all the negative effects I listed above (mild). But it's worth it overall because I've gotten allot further in life being able to focus. So when it comes down to it it's worth it. Now the last thing I'm going to say I used to be a recreational drug user and Vyvanse... Is basically watered down meth. Read More Read Less

My 5 year old son has taken this medicine for the past two months and it is working wonders.(he has add not adhd). He is in the first grade. The first day we gave it to him I was nervous about how he would react to it so I went & ate lunch with him & to my surprise his teacher just gushed about how good of a day he was having. His grades have improved, he participates in class more, and shares with me what he has learned in school that day. He does occasionally complain about stomach pain but it doesnt bother him so much that it interfers with his day to day activies. I am happy I put him on it.Read More Read Less

This is an excellent med, my daughter is taking it. We have tried 5 others and this is by far the best. When she first started it, or if she goes off of it for a while, she has trouble getting to sleep, but that is easily overcome by using Benadryl for 4 or 5 nights and then it's no longer needed.
