Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

Vyvanse was working great for my Aspergers at first for a year or so. Unfortunately the 50MG started losing their efficacy, even when I went off them for a week, and it's dangerous to take 70 MG, so I'll probably be switching soon.

I take 60mg of Vyvanse and it works so well for me. I have a natural/organic/gluten- dairy-free diet, but the only thing that's helped me with my symptoms has been Vyvanse. I have a few mild side effects and one that's driving me insane, but the pros outweigh the cons for this one. I'm able to focus AMAZINGLY, organize thoughts in my head well, follow conversations better and am generally more productive. While I can tell when the medicine "kicks in", I don't have that "medicated" feeling. It helps my mind focus the way I've always wanted it to, while still feeling like ME and being in control of myself. :) There are a few side effects that are minor and come and go, probably based upon how much food and water I've had that day... occasional light nausea, VERY mild hand tremors, dry mouth, and loss of appetite. There is ONE side effect that is freaking horrible, and iit's worse on days where I haven't eaten much. My neck and jaw muscles get EXTREMELY TIGHT 2 to 3 hrs. after my dose. I can't relax them no matter what I do, and I feel desperate to crack my neck every 10 minutes or so -- before this, I never cracked my neck in my life because I never needed to. When I try to ignore it and relax, the tension gets worse and worse til I have to crack it. When I turn my head there's a sound like grinding sand. About half the time I feel like I'm straining or pushing my neck forward and hunching my shoulders, but when I look in a mirror I am standing normal and straight. The muscle tension is so high that I feel like I'm hunching even though I'm not! Like I said, it might have to do with my food intake. It works best when I eat well and drink tons of water. Oh, and I was irritable for months at first then cut my sugar intake waaaay down and only to natural sugars. If you're taking Vyvanse, STOP EATING SO MUCH SUGARY FOOD..! No medicine can help you if you don't take care of your body. :) Read More Read Less

My 11 year old son has been diagnosed with ADD without the HD. I have tried various other methods before trying prescribed medications as many of his symptoms, I considered "just boy". After consulting with our pediatrician for an hour and a half I agreed to try my son on a minimum dose of Vyvanse(20mg). Within the first week, the teacher noticed how on top of his work he had become, and how organized he was becoming. I noticed a very calm, focused boy who was excited to not miss recess for missed work and one who felt like he could do what "normal" kids could do. He said his brain doesn't feel all jumbly and things like the birds outside don't distract him and make him think of Star Wars (his words). Overall, I am pleased. I have noticed his sleep is disrupted and he stays up later, partly because he said he is glad he can focus on reading now, he used to prefer audio books to help him stay on track. I find if I give it to him no later than 7:30 we can reasonably expect him to be asleep by 10. He wakes up at 7 so he still gets 9 hours. The one day we didn't take our medicine he complained of a headache so I am not sure if that was a coincidence or not, he prefers to take it consistently so he can think better.Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with adult ADHD in June 2010 and was prescribed 40mg of Vyvanse, along with talk therapy. I noticed benefits almost immediately with minimal side effects, such as mild headaches and difficulty sleeping. I was able to concentrate & focus, stick to one task, get organized and stop procrastinating. I did not experience any significant mood changes, however I was a little more subdued while at work, because I was more motivated to be productive and had no desire to stand around and chat. By the end of the 2nd month it didn't work as well, so the dosage was increased to 60mg. After the increase my headaches were more severe but subsided after a couple weeks. I still had difficulty sleeping and had no desire to eat until dinnertime, but I felt the benefits outweighed the side effects. Eventually my sleep pattern returned to normal as did my appetite. I resumed eating 3 meals but had more willpower so I ate more healthily. I lost 20 lbs in about 4 months, which was a bonus. I developed a tolerance to Vyvanse after about 6 months of use. It was no longer effective and I had extreme difficulty sleeping. I had to work really hard to stay on task and ignore distractions, which caused me to be very frustrated. I’m really disappointed that it didn’t continue to work for me. When it worked I was very satisfied with it and pleased with my accomplishments. My doctor switched me to Concerta. I’ve been on it for 2 weeks and haven’t noticed any big improvement, like I did when I started Vyvanse. Since I tend to quickly develop a tolerance to drugs, I will need to find alternate ways to cope with ADHD. Read More Read Less

My symptoms started with muscular pain. Some doctors said that it may be fibermialgia. I was prescribed ultram. it eased the pain, but i was unaware that it was an addictive opiate. Then doctors thought adult ADD, so they added dexidrine to the mix. I felt much better for about 6 months to a year. In hind site, little did I know that I only thought that I was better. Over time doctors added other drugs such as adderall, lexapro, zoloft, vyvanese, xanex, and the list goes on. To make a long story short all these drugs did was mask the real problems. I lost my outgoing personality, my creativity and excitment with life went away. The amount of drugs prescribed to me should be a crime. The damage has been done. One day I woke up feeling very good. I decided not to take any of the prescribed drugs. I had breakfast consisting of Frosted shreaded wheat, Tea with milk. 30 min. later the pain returned. My wife suggested that I may have a food allergy. I changed my diet, ate more whole foods, stopped the medication. I had an amazing turn around. No pain, better focus, more energy, etc. Any way the side effects of the meds far out weigh the benefits. I relied on my doctors, and they only know how to prescribe meds. They do not seem to take nutrition into account. I am continuing to research the problems that I have had. I have fond that what you eat can effect ADD, and many other symptoms. This brief discripton only touches the surface of what I have learned. Think twice before subjecting yourself or your children to medications for an immediate fix to a problem. It seems like the easy way but can have long term bad effects. I have learned the hard way. My son is 10 years old and has taken Vyvanse for the past 6 weeks. He started on 30 mg and was bumped up to 40 mg after 4 weeks. After 2 weeks on the 40 mg he has completely stopped responding to the drug at all.

I have been diagnosed with ADHD for the past two or so years. My new doctor prescribed me Vyvanse, saying it was the new "wonder drug" for ADHD. He kept praising the medicine by describing its ability for non-dependency, how it's delivered to the body better, and how it's practically the same as adderall, but better! The first two or so months was ok, I lost weight (which I'm not complaining about!), I could concentrate while in class, and hold a conversation with someone without daydreaming! After that, everything went down hill. I became irritable, started having mood swings, LOW self-esteem, lack of motivation, I started eating like crazy, developed anxiety and depression symptoms, and so on. As a result, my doctor upped my dosage from 30mg to 50mg, which just made things worse. One thing inparticular that I HATE is that, no matter what time of day I take the medicine, aproximately 6hrs later I am EXHAUSTED... For no reason! I'm a full-time college student with no job or any other major obligations in my life, I shouldn't feel sooo tired after a few hours of class! This is ridiculous. It seriously effected my relationship with my fiance also. My sex drive is lower than ever, he irritates me by just being in the room, and i'm constantly feeling like I'm not good enough for him or that he's cheating on me... Which I know, in all sanity, that none of it is true. Vyvanse is a horrible drug that will do nothing but cause low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and multiply you ADHD symptoms ten fold. The only thing this medicine is good for is if you want to feel like someone just injected you with cocaine for two hours then have a horrible crash... Don't take it!Read More Read Less

My son has been on this medication for 2 years. He started it when he was mid first grade and failing reading. Within 6/9 weeks of starting Vyvanse, he was not only passing but above grade level. Also his dosage has not increased during these 2 years. This medication and experience has been wonderful.

What an amazing drug! My son is 15 and has been taking this drug for 2 years now. He is able to go to school without any problem. (K-8 he was a basketcase every day!) When he doesnt take it, he is mean and hateful. The only side effects so far is he has loss of appetite and lost weight, but he is not underweight. I still have to deal with the teen attitude (I wish they made a pill for that)I make sure I watch his behavior. No sign of suicidal tendencies nor does he take more than the prescribed amount. No use of illegal drugs. I liked it so much, when I lost my job/insurance, I had to spend the $150 out of pocket costs. With my insurance now, I need a prior auth which is a pain, but worth it. Medco is the way to go- $50 for 90 days.Read More Read Less

I started taking Vyvanse about a month ago and it has completely changed my life. I am much more focused which leads me to feel more satisfied at work and at home. The only side effects I have had included insomnia when I didn't take it early enough in the morning. I have to take it by 8am or I can't sleep through the night. I've also experience minor irratability but I feel that it is because I am getting used to the change that is taking place because I am more focused. Also, I ended my month supply and before I could get more I went about a week without it and I felt extremely exhausted. I was sleeping about 10-12 hours a day and still feeling tired. Other than that, with careful use I am very satisfied with this drug. Read More Read Less
