Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

My grandson was dianoised with ADHD and this is the 3rd medication he has been on. It seems to be working because if he misses a dose his teacher really notices big differences in him when not on it. I have noticed he eats less, but this is really not an issue at this point since he is kind of big for his age (9yrs). I'm still concerned with long term usage on what will happen to him if he stops or will he have to find a differentg medication was his body is used to taking this.

I love this med! I am a 23yo full-time college student. I take late night classes and it is truly a "miracle" drug for me! I thank my doc for prescribing it to me, only after i had to switch doctors because my old doc would not listen to me when I told him the 5mg Adderall was not working, which is a 7yo's dosage! Only thing I would say is a down-fall is not being able to fall asleep as fast as I would like at night when I get home.

I have been on Vyvanse 30 mg for about 8 days now. I am a 29 year old female diagnosed with ADD about 7 years ago. I took adderall XR after diagnosis but had to quit when I became pregnant. Vyvanse has been pretty good so far, not bad, not excellent. It helps with memory and concentration and gives me extra energy which I struggled with in the past. (I have ADD, not ADHD) It did decrease my appetite, but not completely. I still eat, just feel full quickly and don't crave sweets and carbs much. I have been eating really healthy. I really want this to be a positive experience for me. I have read so many reviews about people taking too much of this med, not eating to lose weight etc. This is terrible for your body!No wonder you have side effects like headaches, muscle aches, shakiness... It's not the meds, it's the lack of food! Our body needs nutrition and I wish people would take better care of themselves on these meds. In addition to taking the Vyvanse, I take a Fish, Flax and Borage capsule which gives me the Omega 3's we need for brain function. I also drink TONS of water, all day long. I would like to up my dose a bit, but I also have to take an allergy pill right now so I think I will wait until allergy season is over... just to be sure. Overall I am happy with Vyvanse, it has really helped my ADD symptoms, But please remember it isn't a magic pill. YOU still have to take care of YOU. Be good to yourself! Read More Read Less

After being diagnosed at 50- my Dr put me on Concerta. I could tell a difference-but not that great. I was working a full time job, working on 3 extra projects that were long term and completing my bachelor's in bus with information systems. I needed help fast because I could feel myself starting to wonder. After about a year-she switched to this drug. And WOW! I can concentrate and stay on task pretty good. Like one guy said earlier- I even like doing housework when I get home. At first, I had bad headaches by the time I got from work, and had to take a nap. But after a couple of months- they went away. And like the gentleman earlier who thinks they might have changed something in Jan- I do to. I had not had any problems until then- All of a sudden it didn't last as long. so we upped my dosed. I will be on it - as long as my doctor will let me stay. It is so wonderful to be able to sit down at my desk and design, create and output a program( and not at the last minutes. the only physicial effect has been some nausea , headaches and sleepiness-.They eventually go away. My 7yo son dx with ADHD/PDD took one pill of Vyvanse and I have already stopped him from taking more. In the last 24 hours he has only slept 1 hour because he cannot calm down enough to sleep. He has not stopped pacing the entire house and begged me to not give him this medicine anymore because he did not like the way it made him feel.

I've been taking this for about a year now and yes it does make me pay more attention but honestly I don't like the way I feel. I'm lifeless, irritable, and I barley smile and im the exact opposite when I'm not on it. I would rather not take this but I need if for my grades but I do like taking it when I clean because I'm a cleaning machine. It makes my head dizzy, I have no appetite, and the nonsocial ways.

I have been on Vyvanse for about 6 weeks now and after 4 weeks my dosage increase from 30mg to 50mg and I am now having trouble breathing and I am restless at night. I will not be taking this medication any longer.

Not only did this medicine make my jaw clench and make me extremely thirsty, but it sent me on a terrible emotional rampage. I was CONSIDERABLY more aggressive, dramatic, and out of control. Although it did help a bit with my focus- it wasn't worth the terrible side effects.

Works well for me, but killer side affects. I am currently on 40 mg and won't go any higher. My wife and I notice a major difference in my ability to study and retain information. She is also pleased about how much work I get done around the house without her having to ask. What she doesn't see is how badly my anxiety and depression get about 10 am. It doesn't last all day, it evens out about 3 pm. At that point I feel like a normal human being w/out ADD. I don't feel like the med has worn off till I wake up in the morning. I get pretty bad insomnia and have to take breaks from the med to catch up on sleep. A side affect that Vyvanse shared with Adderall when I took that was horrible dry mouth and dehydration, regardless of how much water I drink. Overall though, I couldn't live without it. I'd probably get fired and my wife would divorce me if I ever stop taking it. Read More Read Less

The medication last for about 8 hrs then I crash and become very irritable. I have been taking 70 mg for about a yr and 50mg for 1 yr before that. When I began taking Vyvanse I noticed a lot of hair falling out when I took a shower, now it is so thin. Before Vyvanse I couldn't get a brush through my hair if I didn't use conditioner, now I don't even use conditioner because my hair is so thin. I am trying to wean off of the stuff and today is the second day that I haven't had any and I feel horrible. I have no motivation, all I want to do is sleep and eat. I'm thinking about taking a small dose tomorrow just so I can function. If only I would have known....Read More Read Less

Well I have only been in it for 3 days now. It does not last 12-14 hrs.like the doctor told me it would. Today was my first day working on it. I work a 12hr. shift I took it at 6am and by noon I felt like I was fighting to keep my eyes open. Also usually when I study for school its late at night when I get home from work. So I am getting no benefits from the meds at this time when I really need to focus. I'm hoping when I go to the doc wed. which will be a week from starting it that we can figure something out that works for me.Read More Read Less

My son, now 11, has been taking this for 2 1/2 years. He is on the 30mg dose and has been since the third week of taking it (he began at 20mg. for 2 weeks and then tried 30mg and stayed at that dosage). I cannot be happier with this medication. My husband and I were very reluctant to medicate our son and feel in general that many boys today are too quickly put on drugs to control boy-behavior. But this was a godsend. His behavior has gone from weekly phone calls from the school to now having his teachers praise his wonderful behavior. His grades were never poor, but now he is effortlessly getting all A's. When he forgot to take it a few weeks ago, he realized it because during class he felt like it was harder to concentrate--since then I never have to remind him in the morning to take it, as he realizes what it does for him! He had a few minor side effects the first week of taking it--he wasn't hungry, although no stomach pain and a mild headache for a few days. Since then though, no side effects at all. His growth remains on the same track it was before beginning this medication, which was a strong worry for us when beginning this medication. This may not be the right medication for everyone, but for my son, it has been a blessing!Read More Read Less

This medicine was quite effective in improving my alertness and concentration from the summer of 2008 up through Jan. 2011, at which point I noticed a sharp drop in its effectiveness. The change was abrupt, and first occurred when I refilled the prescription in Jan. 2011. However, upon discussing this with my doctor, he stated that his other patients had not complained; nonetheless, he seemed to feel that the change was too abrupt to be attributable to tolerance. Unfortunately, he could not explain what the problem might be. I also called the Shire company to complain, and I included the lot numbers along with the pharmacy's address and phone numbers for my most recent refills. Shire responded with a letter explaining that they had conducted an internal investigation, and could find no evidence that the product had been improperly manufactured or packaged. Thinking that the problem might have been with the pharmacy, I switched to a different one, but the effectiveness of the medicine did not improve. I have restricted myself to drinking only a glass of water in the morning when I take the medicine to rule out any possibility that my diet might be causing trouble, but I still would say that it has been "somewhat ineffective". If I had been asked to rate this medicine before this year, I would have rated it with 4 out of 5 starts for effectiveness and satisfaction.Read More Read Less

I was 37 years old dx with adhd per myself seeking something was just not right.I was tested and dx with adhd. Per my reasearch i kindly requested vyvanse lowest dose at my first consult with doctor one month after being tested. He was very receptive to my request and respected my knowledge since I am in the medical field myself and explained to him my prior reluctance to taking any drugs what so ever.Iwas on the lowest dose for about five months with him increasing me then to 50mg which only remained for three months. So now since august of 2010 i have been on 40 mg which in november of 2010 per my feeling of vyvanse alone not working straterra 25mg was added to my regimen.Recently I feel it is ineffective period.Does vyvanse eventually loose its positve effects. The stratera acted as a buffer somewhat in the beginning of use which was great.Vyvanse alone was giving me s/s as a diabetic would experience.Does anyone experience any or all of these effects on vyvanse. Thanks Read More Read Less
