Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I have been on Vyvanse for about 5 months now. I was prescribed it in my last semester of college from using Adderall. Vyvanse helped me get through my classes a lot easier. Unfortunately some of the symptoms are taking place. Such as losing weight, very little no appetite at all. Dry mouth, and staying awake at night longer than I want. I will try it out for a little longer. It symptoms worsen then switching back to Adderall.

The medication works well, but I am building a continuous resistance to it. I have to go up in dose consistently. The positive effect is very effective at reducing the symptoms of ADD. However, the "low" of anxiety, irritability, and jitters keeps getting worse. I'm also losing weight, when I started the pill I was 5'10" and 220 lbs. I'm simply never hungry, I'm now 6'0" and 170 lbs. I don't know if I can stop losing weight when I should stop. Even when I don't take the pill I'm not hungry.

My 15 yr. old son has struggled with "inconsistent effort" for years in school--getting A's & F's with no pattern. I fought for ADD testing by the school, but they claimed he was just not trying. After diagnosis of an ulcer due to school stress, his doctor tried Vyvanse. It has made a HUGE difference. He went from a D to a nearly perfect math grade, his handwriting is no longer a mess and he can carry on long, clear, thoughtful conversations. He has lost weight and has less appetite as well as had some trouble sleeping, but the good outweighs the bad for now. Read More Read Less

When first diagnosed with Narcolepsy with EDS my Dr put me on Provigil. I was on it for over a year and what a horrible drug it is!!! After sleeping 68 hours out of 72 I got on Web MD and discovered Adderrall. It changed my life completely. I was also a mental health patient and after a week I began to beleive that that was a total mis-diagnosis. All my "mental health" problems disappeared after starting Adderall. So I told my shrink about it. I was on 20 mg of Adderall 3x a day and my shrink decided I would benefit even more from 70 mg of Vyvanse once a day. And was he ever right. Between these two meds I have no problems and too many improvements to list. I have managed to build my own website--which I had no clue how to do--I have started my own business from my home and I am able to concentrate, stay focused and have the energy to do ANYTHING. I have not fallen asleep during the due due to Narcolepsy ONE TIME. I am overjoyed with these 2 meds. They have completely changed my life.Read More Read Less

MY 7 year old daughter had been on this drug since january. since then she has lost about 22lbs.. a little weight loss was nesacarry because she seemed borderline obese for her heighth/weight but now she kinda looks skelatal. over this past week she had an allergic reaction where she thought bugs were under her skin and she was vomiting. After about an hour of her saying she was not feeling well my wife called the DR whom perscribed her this medicine and he said she was having an allergic reaction to this drug. After getting to the emergency room and being weighed she list 7 more lbs since two weeks ago from when she had a check up. She completely lost her appitite eating opnly once in the am and no more for the rest of the day. even though the dr. said the medicine should wear off by dinner time and she should be hungary she was not. not even for junk food. So i warn everyone to second guess and third guess putting your child on this medicine. I know its one of very few that treats these issues in children but now I felt like a complete jack ass for letting it get this bad.....Read More Read Less

I suffer from depression and generalized anxiety disorder. However, I was tired all the time and couldn't stay focused or concentrate. I had mild side effects the first couple days, but they weren't too bad and it was worth it. My mood has improved and I feel very alert and focused.

My 6 year old son has been taking it for three months now. First month he felt very sick to his stomach and would not eat. Huge difference in his behavior. Now he is used to it and he tends to sit in one place and just watch T.V. I have to get him motivated to do something and he will. He is also starting to pick at himself. So I will give it one more month and maybe its not for him. We will see.

I started taking Vyvanse 20MG after taking Adderall XR 20MG (10MG 2x a day, one at 9am and the other at 1pm) -- my body's metabolism greatly shortened the drug's half-life, resulting in a smaller dose of the XR twice a day rather than a larger dose once a day. After taking Adderall XR for almost 4 years, I was hesitant in switching my script; however, I started to have anxiety attacks, especially at night. My PsyMD recommended a single amphetamine salt Vyvanse for the reason that it was very similar to my durrent prescribed mixed amphetamine salt Adderall. It's similar in that it allows me to focus and sometimes "hyperfocus", but it's more consistent than Adderall XR since it metabolizes in the blood rather than the urine, so it's efficacy isn't dependent on your diet (i.e. orange juice reduced the efficacy of the drug in my system). I've noticed a much more consistent flow of the drug throughout the day with not as many highs & lows as when on Adderall XR. The drug is definitely much longer lasting than my Adderall XR; I find myself more able to manage my ADHD even in the evening, when Adderall XR would be worn off by then. Also, I did notice a small rash on my face and also my upper lip being very dry and chapped after being on Vyvanse for 5 days now. Otherwise, I only positives to report. I'll stay on the new drug; it makes me seem more "normal" with more patience and social-ness tremendously aiding in my assimilation to the corporate environment. Good luck!Read More Read Less

I have taken the medication for about two years now (stopped for about 6 months in the middle). It has been the best thing that I have ever done. My life dramatically improved because of Vyvanse. Miracle drug to me! After reading reviews it's definately not for everyone. I have never drank alcohol, I have never smoked, and I don't even drink anything with cafeine. I exercise at least once a week sometimes more - but when taking Vyvanse I wait until after the 12 hours passes. The reason I stopped for 6 months was because it was speeding up my heart rate and that bothered me. But I realized after I stopped taking it that it had actually cured me (after a year). Even without the medication I was still able to concentrate - it's like it re-trained my brain. But after about 6 months I felt the effects were going away, so I am taking it again. I figure I'll keep doing it a year at a time and see if I can't make the effects permanent. ABSOLUTE BEST THING EVER! I am no longer affraid to have conversations with people for fear of not being able to follow the conversation - I can sit in meetings at work and retain all or most of the information - where as before I retained nothing unless I wrote it down. My wife says that I pay more attention to her when she talks and that makes a marriage awesome - no price tag on having your wife happy :-). It does lower the sex drive for me - I can have sex whenever my wife wants too, but I don't need sex all the time like I used to. I thought that might be my age - but when not taking the medication my sex drive went back up. But my wife loves the fact that I don't seem as needy and she actually seems to want it more often than she used to because I don't. :-)Read More Read Less

My son is 10 and began taking Vyvanse last year. I saw a great improvement in his concentration, handwriting, and his ability to complete homework independently. His teachers raved about his improvement. His anxiety level greatly decreased while taking this drug. His teacher said he stopped asking for her to repeat directions constantly and no longer seemed "lost".He finished school with all A's and one B. The only problem has been that he hates taking it. He says he has no appetite for most of the day and it bothers him that he feels like he can't eat at lunch. He also says it makes him feel bored but I think that is just because it calms him down. He is not taking it this summer and I might try to see if the doctor will prescribe him another drug that will not affect his appetite so much but if there is not one that works he will go back on it at the beginning of school. His improvement was too dramatic to have him not take anything. I just wish he would recognize the difference it has made.Every evening used to be so difficult with his homework. He often didn't know what he was supposed to do and he didn't seem to retain the information. He needed constant help. All that changed when he started on the Vyvanze.Read More Read Less

I've dealt with ADD and ADHD since i was a small child and finally decided to go and seek help after not doing so well my first year in college. The first day i started taking it i noticed a drastic improvement in my ability's! I was able to focus for the first time in my life on any subject and was much more able to recall on my memories. I now can do just about any task that i set my mind too and sometimes spend hours on something that before i would have just gave up on right away. It has done more for my ADD then my ADHD but the ADD has always been the bigger problem for me. Only problems i have had was i still am hyperactive but now i am more able to put it to use. This has also caused some problems with me sleeping though as now I'm really bad about staying up all night so i have to force myself to go to bed. Also had the decrease in appetite which took some getting use too. Going back to the doctor once a month to get my prescription is also a pain hints the four starts but overall more then worth it. I do recommend if you start taking this to choose a particular time and always take it then, preferably earlier in the morning as this medication last up to 16 hours. Doing this gets you the full effect and also makes it easier to sleep. I also wouldn't recommend drink caffeinated beverages at first especially such drinks as coffee and Mountain Dew for the first couple of days till you know how it will effect you. I'd recommend this to anyone who has had ADD problems and often do!!!Read More Read Less

Everything is fine when I'm on my Vyvanse......However, if I stop taking it for a day or two I feel very physically sick and extremely hungry. I can barely get out of bed and my muscles ache. Be sure you know that you absolutely can handle these withdrawal symptoms before you start taking Vyvanse. Its a scary ride, and I don't know when the withdrawal symptoms are going to end.

I am 62. Never had heart problem. The first warning should have been that the PHARMACIST DIDN'T INCLUDE ANY FACT SHEET, WARNING INFORMATION - SAID NONE IS AVAILABLE FROM THE FDA YET!!! Clenching my jaw, aggitated, irritable, on edge, the whole time I took Vyvanse (16 days). Chest pain and shortness of breath that I'd never had before, occured a couple of times during the last 6 days (while trying to stay with it in case I just needed to "get used to it"). Finally, after 2 bouts with heart and breathing symptoms, I didn't take it and went to my doctor who did an EKG and immediately referred me to a Cardiologist, wants me to carry Nitroglycerine with me, and take 1 baby aspirin/day. I am not a happy camper!!! Hope my heart symptoms and irregular ekg go away! Read More Read Less
