Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

As a child, I excelled in music and things requiring creativity. But I could never keep up in math, or any subjects requiring a high level of concentration. I was also in trouble a lot for misbehavior. My IQ was measured as very high, but my grades never reflected it. In 2008 I returned to obtain my graduate degree after many years of being in the work force. I had a very difficult time and nearly failed out. A professor suggested a psych profile. I took a test, and the Dr. said I showed symptoms associated with ADD. I started taking Vyvanse, even though I was very skeptical of the whole ADD concept. Within 1 semester my grades went from C's to A's. I can not see how this medicine could be abused. It improves concentration and energy level. How is that bad thing in any way? I have experienced no side effects, except for decreased appetite, which has helped me lose 30 pounds that I badly needed to lose. I wish this medicine was available when I was a child. I am certain my grades would have been much better. I had all the signs of ADHD, but was labeled a problem student, an underachiever, and even a slow learner, despite scoring in the 90+ percentile on the SAT. I don't like the term, but I have found Vyvanse to be a "miracle drug."Read More Read Less

I am up to 70mg and do not see the results that i would like, or thought i would get. I am going to see about going on the maximum dose of 100mg to see if that will make any difference. If it does'nt, my psych. and i will decide what the next step will be on my next visit.

My 9 year old son was on this med and it was the worst 2 months of our family's life. He was very aggressive with everyone he met, fighting, being physical, arguementative, since stopping it and trying Abilify we have a new child and everyone has noticed, would recommend this med for any child

I have some tips for all of you who feel like this drug is ineffective or inconsistent, but I'll start with my brief story... I'm 24 years old and have been on Vyvanse for 3 months. I was started at 30 mg and for the first couple of weeks it seemed to work ok, but not great. After that I felt like it had NO effect. I begged my doc to increase my dose which he reluctantly did up to 40 mg. The story was still the same though...it worked ok for the first week but after that I felt like it was wearing off around noon each day. My doc insists that 40mg is "more than enough" for me. I'm a 6'2, 210 lb male and I know a six year old girl who is on a higher dose. I digress. Knowing he wasn't going to increase my dose, I found other ways to increase the drug's effectiveness which HAVE worked: 1.) Avoid vitamin C and citric acids like the plague i.e. orange juice. These break down the drug in your stomach before it has a chance to be released into the blood stream. 2.) Get plenty of sleep. Fatigue mimics the symptoms of ADD so the drug will lose effectiveness if you're already exhausted. 3.) Exercise. I didn't have time to work out when I first started. I recently started again and I noticed an IMMEDIATE change in the drug's effectiveness. 4.) L-Tyrosine supplements. Vyvanse uses dopamine in your brain to deliver it's "effect." Over time, it will deplete dopamine levels which reduce effectiveness. L-Tyrosine, commonly found in proteins, repairs dopamine receptors. The idea is to take it before you go to sleep so it works throughout the night leaving you with replenished dopamine levels in the morning. 5.) B-6 vitamins. They provide natural energy which will give the Vyvanse a boost. I am not a doctor by any means, but these changes made a huge difference for me. It changed the effectiveness of the drug from useless to manageable. I still think I need a slightly higher dose, so we'll see. Remember: This drug is BRAND NEW, so we are the "guinea pigs." I hope this helps. Read More Read Less

I have been using Vyvanse for two weeks to treat my ADHD. This is my first time using a stimulant and I think I am going to see about switching medications. I only use 30mg and it does nothing for my focus just speeds up my heart rate and gives me stomach cramps.

This drug is very costly. Without insurance it may prove to be prohibitive.

It works well for concentration problems, but sometimes gets me too anxious. It also seems to amplify other emotions. I started experiencing fatigue and muscle pain. They decreased substantially when I stopped taking Vyvanse. I'm not sure what the connection might be.

essentially, my 60 mg once per day dosage has helped me considerably, especially at work. this dosage, though, does not work as effectively as it used to, and wears off sooner. also, my experience with Vyvanse has triggered addictive behavior. i am an alcoholic/drug addict, in recovery fro 21 years and i cannot tolerate Vyvanse, and cannot control my daily dosages any longer, and am discontinuing it's use.

I think I had AD/HD since childhood but was never diagnosed. I was called a daydreamer in class. I did ok in college but dropped out the final semester of my senior year. I finally got an ASN and became a RN. I realized most of my decisions were impulsive and poorly planned. After years of spinning my wheels. I decided to see a psychiatrist and address my concerns. After a thorough assessment and evaluation I was put on 50mg Vyvanse, within 3 days it was like a light bulb went on and my world was a better place. I feel whole and can retain and recall information easily. I research any and everything important to me. I use my time wisely and feel very happy. I wish I had this earlier in life I could have been much more successful and stable. So better late than never. My impulsiveness is at a very controllable levels, my concentration is better than it has been since grade school. I can even sit down and read a book or watch a movie with out any problems staying on focus. Vyvanse has been one of the medications that has completely changed my life since I started it. Oh and it does make you loose your appetite, so I take it with a good breakfast.Read More Read Less
