Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I have attention deficit disorder, without the hyperactivity. I was also addicted to pain medicane. So when i ran out of my pain medicane, i started taking my vyvanse more then what was prescribed, i was taking 2 of the 60mg capsules any where from 2 to 3 times a day. I learned my leason on that real quick, i stayed up for 5 day's and 6 night's. By the time the 6th night came around and still no sleep, still wide awake. I started seeing things and hearing people talking to me that was'nt their, i guess you can say i was haillusinating. It was a very bad tripp, one like i have never had before, but that was only because i was misuseing it, trying to make up in energy that i was missing from being out of my pain medicane. I have not abused it since, i was honestly scard to take it after that. I was put on adderall 30mg twice a day, then my doctor switched me to vyvanse 60mg once a day. Since i had the bed experince with it before i did'nt take more then what my doctor had prescribed me to take a day, and it has been working great for me every since then.Read More Read Less

I think this medication works well, I am on it because the manufacturer has a patient assistance program, which if anyone who has no insurance and has ADD, might want to look into. I was taking generic Dexedrine (ir) then it quadrupled in price, adderall ( ir) was a little cheaper but still too much. So I am on 70 mg Vyvanse a day, which is the max the program will cover since that is the max dosage recommended by manufacturer. I think I need a higher dose so I am going to talk with my doctor about adding something, I'll have to pay for it but at least it won't be as expensive because I shouldn't need too many tablets along with the Vyvanse. So if the price is a problem check out Shire's patient assistance program, they also have a coupon for people who have high co-pays. Read More Read Less

I'm a 53 yr old woman with ADD (evaluated 15 mo. ago and told have mild ADD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder and mild OCD); was prescribed Vyvanse but only took it about 3 months. I quit taking it because of the weird feelings in my mouth...dry, burning tongue, along with sores. I was constantly rubbing my tongue on my teeth or chewing on it. I've had such a hard time trying to keep an organized home, deal with my decorating (home party) business, and get through this Christmas, that I decided I should try the Vyvanse again. Right away, though, I am having the same awful oral symptoms. I've had lots of energy the past few days and could focus, so am trying to ignore the way my mouth feels but it's almost impossible. I even took a smaller dose, having separated the capsules and divided them into 2 separate capsules. Are there any other meds that don't cause this side effect? I also take Citilopram for my anxiety issues. My OCD problem is with skin picking, which I think is made worse by taking the Vyvanse. Sleeping is also an issue for me, and I take 50mg of Trazadone, which lets me sleep but I wake up groggy and pretty worthless in the mornings. Read More Read Less

This drug has helped me very much. It is very very expensive $138 with insurance and $750 without insurance monthly. Does anyone know of a similar drug that is less expensive? I am asking for help with this I will be losing my excellant insurance very soon due to divorce.

After watching my 9 yr old grandson suffer from depression feelings of worthlessness and suicidal thoughts my view point is this . NO CHILD should be given this medicine The Drs are getting paid high dollars for writing the scripts and the schools are bullying the parents to have the children on these meds to have control in the class . They do not care about what happens to the children after they leave the school ground and the Drs don't care because they are getting paid very well by the Gov. When you are looking at your child lying in a casket or on is in a mental ward because of the side affects of these drugs Are the A's and B's worth it are they really really worth it ? There are many names and faces of children who have died because of theses meds look it up and read their parents stories . It is a sad society we live in !Read More Read Less

My son is 8yrs old has a diagnosis of adhd, and impulse control disorder. He has been on a stimulant earlier this year and had to be removed because of the negative effects with aggression and anger issues that resulted. He began to become super impulsive and was switched to something strictly for impulsivity but we had a happier child. However for the first time in his school history, his grades dropped and back to a stimulant vyvanse. I got wonderful remarks from the teacher saying things are now great at school and he's calm and focused. But oh boy when he comes home, he's off the hook, very agressive, always angry, super violent with siblings even now with me and his dad, very argumentive and stabbing holes in the walls, very abrasive with his speech, breaking things and destructive. It's only been about 2 weeks since he began this med and it seems like a lifetime of terror. The entire atmosphere of of home is in an uproar! I'm calling the Doctor tomorrow to see if something can be done. We cant continue this way. I am very dissatisfied!Read More Read Less

In med school, I needed to get back to my ADHD meds. I was prescribed this medication. It works fantastic! I feel it kick in about an hour after I take it, like a switch gets turned on. It is at it's peak for about 4 hours, and I feel like it lasts for 7-8 hours. I did experience loss of appetite, however, since I'm a health nut I monitored my weight well. The first two days I was on it, I ate about 750 cals. less. After that I am only about 300 cals. lower. I've been on it for about 6 months, now. I actually had a moment where I fainted. It could be that my active lifestyle has switched to being more sedentary (and a lot of standing up fast) or it could be the medications. I'm going back to the doctor to figure some things out.Read More Read Less

I am experiencing more depression and suicidal ideation but I have no way of knowing if that is the meds or if that is because of recent occurrences in my life.

My Younger Brother is 13 Years old and he started on this drug about 6 months ago. He was doing great, the drug was helping improve his irratibility and concentration at school. Until a few weeks ago he has started getting sick and not feeling well so my mom took him to the doctor where they screened him and found out that the drug Vyvanse of 50mg has been damaging his liver. They switched his drug to another and he has to go in to be tested on his liver improvement every month. He is on a restrictive diet and he has been highly encouraged to not participate in any sports activity. He is a 13 year old boy and is limited now in order to bring his liver back to wear it was before this drug. This was not a side effect we were anticipating of course but we were unaware of this even being a possibility. We were happy with the Read More Read Less

My son is 6 yrs old and also has ODD on top of the ADHD. He is started off taking 30 mg of this and it was great the first 2 weeks and didnt help much other than focus at school after that. His dose was upped to 50 mg and again, the first 2 weeks it was good then his behavior starts back up. He has been able to focus in school and is a great student but by the time he gets home he is not so nice and its pretty hard getting him to sleep. He is now taking melatonin for the sleep issues and it helps a great deal but his antagonizing, loud & obnoxious behavior is still ever present. Not sure if I should trade up a well mannered child for a good student or if we need to try something else. I love that he is now making As & Bs but I hate the fact he is still missing a good childhood because he is easily angered or goes into crying meltdowns. Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with ADD about 10 years ago, I was on Adderall for the first 7 years, then switched to Vyvanse. Vyvanse has been so much better for me, the time when it enters my system and the time that it leaves my system are both much more smooth. With Adderall I felt like I was on a roller coaster- it was very intense and I would have serious irritability and headaches as the meds wore off. Vyvanse is a much more refined and improved medication. Less loss of appetite and less dry mouth, although both side effects are still present. I feel more "me" and less of a robot than I did while taking Adderall. Read More Read Less

I am 51 yo male, educated, successful, married for 25 years and have held a job with a Fortune 5 company for 27 years. At the same time, I was an alcoholic, adulterer, gambler, and had other proclivities. I was diagnosed with ADHD and have been on 50 mg for 4 months and have noticed a dramatic improvement of all the good things in my life and I am making better choices. I am able to focus and look froward to each day.
