Vyvanse is a new drug on the market the is very similair to Adderall XR. Like any ADHD medication, this drug does raise one's heart rate and will have an affect on one's stomach. Something that I do is open up the capsule and pour the contents into apple sauce. The mixture of the food and the medication makes it a lot easier on the stomach. The common misconception is that you need the capsule, bu...

Story: I had taken 20MGs Vyvanse as a kid for ADHD, it worked great and soon I was the smartest kid in my whole class, eventually it just stopped working around middle school so I stopped taking it, and my grades went back down to being barely passing. Sophomore year in Highschool, I decided to try it again because I was failing all my classes because I could never stay focused in class, I asked m...

I have been Vyvanse (40mg at 8:30 am) for a few weeks, first couple of nights were very bad, couldn’t sleep at all. Now having dry mouth and difficult motivating myself to eat but is manageable. One big issues is that in the late afternoon (4-8pm) I will bottom out, feel almost like having the flu and will be very emotional and irritable. In experimenting I have found that a dose of caffeine around 3:30 significantly improves this problem (Half an “Amp” energy drink works well) Still feel worse but more tired than sick. *Talk to your doc before trying this*Read More Read Less

My eight year old started this medicine eight months ago. It seemed to be a miracle drug at first. Three months later she began losing her hair. Five months she began hacking with an uncontrollable cough (tic). She is now bald and when she started losing her eyelashes and eyebrows. We went off the medicine, despite md's claiming it is unrelated. The tic went away in two weeks and her hair is coming back, but very slowly. I would not recommend this medicine. The good behavior and focus did not last. If she hadnt had the bad reaction, the teachers would have wanted to up the dosage! She also reports that it was making her vision blurry! I was prescribed this med as i have chronic fatigue. It is great for me. Feeling awake now and have more energy. It is easier to use as you only take one pill and it works all day and it keeps you feeling the same (no ups or downs) unlike the dexedrine i was on. That was like i was on speed, talked so much and was like the energizer bunny. It stopped working, boy do i miss that feeling of energy.

This medication is designed for 12 hour treatment of ADD and it does just that, it treats on an arc. It eases you into the effective zone, it keeps you there and gently eases you out. Unlike Ritalin or Adarol there is not quick up, crash down it is very smooth and controlled. This is by far the superior drug for the treatment of ADD, the only down side: NO generic and super expensive if not covered by insurance.

My five year old was started on this two weeks ago - and has become so anti-social and so irritable, tantrums, anxiety, headache - doesn't want to be touched. Uses "hate" for everything. So upsetting - extreme sensory issues, sound, clothes............what now?

I have used adderall and its derivatives for most of the past 14 years, since I was first given pharmacological treatment for ADHD. I switched to vyvanse during college during an effort to tweak my medications so that I could focus for more of the day. I found that vyvanse had an effective period of 12 hours rather than 8 hours for adderall XR or 4 for adderall for me. I also had less severe side effects. I'd say that I probably have the same side effects, just lower intensity because less of the medication is being absorbed by the body and more by the brain. Among those that have bothered me are muscle tension, elevated HR and BP (mild), and a repetitive, unconscious tongue clicking (bothers other people, not me). The prodrug formulation of Vyvanse makes it slightly safer and longer lasting than the traditional formulations of the psychostimulants (adderall, ritalin and their derivatives). For me, with my constant drive to succeed and push past my ADHD symptoms, the mild improvements were easily worth the added cost. Read More Read Less

Diagnosed with ADHD pretty late in life--mid-30's--I was a little worried about taking a stimulant medication. Now that I've been on the drug for years, I wish I'd had it (or some form of dextroamphetamine) much earlier. Deadlines: met. Tasks: completed. House: spotless. Stressors: handled. It's as if life were viewed through a slightly out-of-focus lens, everything smeared and blurry without the drug. As soon as the medication kicks in, Ding! Everything's clear. I do find that taking a day off now & then is a good thing, though. The brain can only be asked to flood with serotonin and norepinephrin for so long before it just can't produce anymore, I guess (but I got my MD from a crackerjack box, so grains of salt on that comment). Life without vyvanse is do-able, don't get me wrong. If it were taken away, I would shed a tear but hey, life goes on, I'm not gonna go looking to buy some college kid's adderall or pick up a nasty meth habit. But I like the "me" on vyvanse, the me who always remembers important events like birthdays and wedding anniversaries, the me who cares about flowers for my wife on Valentine's Day. The me who shows up at work over-prepared, is always happy to be the designated driver, yadda yadda yadda. For me, it's a good thing.Read More Read Less

Rapid heartbeat, slight chest pain, arm pain. Waves of depression on and off. Pulse raised for many hours. While it may work for some it made me feel like a zombie at times, you have to drink LOTS and lots of water and eat. You will not feel like eating but you really have to or it can make the side effects worse. Muscles will be very tense, causing backaches, etc. I was only able to take it for two days because the side effects were just too much for me. I did not feel like myself at all. Read More Read Less

My son has ADHD & we tried several other medications before Vyvanse. After taking the Vyvanse I noticed such a HUGE change in him that I was amazed! He was able to be still, focus, not talk incessantly, and he was less combative. His teachers said the changed was astounding and he went from having almost failing grades to being an A/B student. I never medicate him on weekends because I don't need to, but I would never send him to school without it! Thank God for Vyvanse!

I have to say that Vyvnese helped me with my evryday activities. I'm more focus and driven now then when I was a kid. The only thing I'm afraid of, is I may have to take it for the rest of my life. After being on it for 6 months or, I tried not taking it for more then one day, and I couldn't function. I find that I get more done in a day on Vyvnese. I love it....

** I would NOT advise giving this medication to your child** I started my 4 year old son on vyvance 5 days ago. I wanted the Lowest dose and he was prescribed 20mg to be taken in the morning. The very first day his preschool teacher noticed and reported to me that he physically Could NOT Stop talking from the time he got there 9A-3p. My husband and i noticed that as well, he stutters VERY badly now and repeats himself over and over. the next 2 days he wasn't talking too much was incredibly focused on one thing for a long time- we liked this aspect, but he was starting to talk to himself and was acting strangely. the next day he was Incredibly Angry and Overly Aggressive, then burst out crying. He has been anxious and nervous, twitches his fingers licks his lips constantly and clicks his tongue. and whats worse is he is Constantly Scared - seeing and hearing things-terrified to sleep in his own bed having nightmares and for the last 2 nights unable to sleep. headache and stomach ache complaints since the start and hasn't eaten one thing since we started him on it, i even have to remind him to drink. I am stopping the med immedietly! I an just sick over what this has done to my child in such a short amount of time - Never again Read More Read Less

My daughter has been on Vyvanse 30mg for about a year and it was the best decision I have made. She took concerta for 2 years and she had horrible mood swings, her dr switched to the vyvanse and she is now a happy 10 year year old. She was making C's and D's in school last year, Now she is making the honor roll.

this medication has been a nightmare for my son who is 16 years old. He became very aggressive and deluded. I will recommend that this medication is only taken by adult with no history of mod disorder or anything like it.
